A way to send yourself to the Ferry of the Damned

  • A long time lurker of the forums first time post. I feel this issue may not be noticed by the majority of the players.

Having played Sea of Thieves from launch. I’ve have developed a great love hate relationship with this experience of a game. Having solo’d for almost all my hours played this has only happened a few times.

Your Pirate getting stuck in the middle of rocks and you can get out. The game usually sends you back to your boat in an instance of becoming stuck. However with Devils Roar “Geezers” I had the unfortunate luck of getting sent into space only to land between rocks on the small island. A galleon can along and took my five OoS skulls since I spent about ten minutes trying to jump and move to get unstuck.

I feel we should have an option under crew management to send ourselves to the Ferry in these “Rare” occurrences.

I look foreword to reading others thoughts on this as well as maybe others experiences wishing this option was there. I also plan to write up some suggestions for ideas in the future to see how like minded all us Scurvy Dogs are.

Love this game and only wish to see it grow into the Pirate game we all want to sail in forever. Keep up the work Rare it’s an honor to get lost on your seas!!!

  • I think this idea is necessary, I've been stuck a couple of times before.
But I'd make there's like a timer on it.
So like when you activate it you have to spend like 2 minutes on the ferry or something.

  • Yeah allow us to stab ourselves with the dagger we use on the vote on voyage table. Also let us customize the dagger.

Never thought of customizing the voting dagger. I like it.

  • Agreed completely with the OP. Another thing I’d like to add, however, is that if you are holding treasure when this happens, that the treasure spawns out away from where you were stuck. I’ve had a few instances where the treasure falls in the location you were stuck, and then there is no possible way to pick it up again. Maybe it’s not possible, but that would be nice : p

I would like to get off it

Athenas in the devils, died and game went to black screen, never came back, there goes 1 hour of work f*s!

Also my compass had 2 Easts on it

  • @k1lroyw4sh3r3 I actually agree on this. There have been multiple times where I got wedged in rocks either from falling into it from above or by firing over by cannon. I also have had the issue where I fire myself over and the island glitches out to the point where the only thing I can interact with is the loot and ship. Wish there was an in-game reset button. Kind of annoying when you have to quit the game especially in the middle of a big journey.

  • I've been stuck in a hole, but not wedged where the respawn will take effect. One option is to have your crew brig you. What I did was sword dash between the rocks forcing a respawn.

  • @starquest This is great. A few times i have raised this idea (admittedly not for a "self killing" mechanic though). The sheer amount of times we use and see that dagger it really should have other skin options.

  • Absolutely. This would allow you to get unstuck without being a mechanic people could abuse for PVP. First day in Devil's Roar I was duo slooping, we both ran off a cliff and fell into am inescapable hole on Scorched Pass. No way to brig each other out. We had to one at a time leave and reinvite each other, however as I was loading in for ages my crewmate got the pleasure of watching a volcano heat seek our ship to death from a square or so away.

  • I would like a "suicide button" for situation like that and for roleplay, of course. But I think will never happen...

  • We need this

  • I like the idea of getting unstuck, but not the idea of a suicide mechanic.

  • Why not bypass the ferry of the damned and use the mermaids instead to return to the ship when you find yourself stuck? This would be faster and easier, and uses a mechanic that's already in the game. Obviously the mermaids wouldn't show up on land, but the devs could keep with the theme of the game by allowing pirates to be able to summon "mermaid powers" to return to their ship.

  • @madame-c I think the point was when your stuck in the rocks or in a spot you can't get out of, but the game won't respawn you on your ship. I like the idea, but I don't know if it really happens enough (maybe 3 times total for me since playing) to justify a button for this. I think its more reporting the stuck locations so it can be looked at and fixed instead.

EDIT: sorry misread your post a bit initially, as I thought you meant just going to the mermaid rather than their "power"

  • @muzackmann Yes, I agree with you that there's probably no justification for it. Like yourself, I recall being stuck between rocks just once. It's probably more effective to report the location so it can be fixed rather than to re-work the system so that players can respawn to their ship. And like @PersonalC0ffee mentioned, a mechanic added to become unstuck could (and probably will) be used beyond its intended purpose.

  • @madame-c It's what gamers do. Give them an inch and they will find God mode somehow. But at least if we keep people reporting these things then it will make it better for everybody.

This. Also you cant use the feature again for 30 min.

  • In the art of sea of thieves book there is concept art of the sea of the dammed with an outpost

  • this would be abused even with a cooldown. It would be like an instant mermaid.

What they need is an "unstuck" mechanic that is an emote that teleports you in a few feet of the compass direction you choose. I can't stand the mechanic that teleports you back to your ship if you trip on a rock or stub your toe. I wish they'd take that out all together.

  • Some great ideas and valid points! Abuse of game mechanics is definitely something that needs awareness. I feel however being on the Ferry really gives no edge especially since it takes a solid minute to respawn on the Xbox with a long black loading screen after going through the door.

Also some sort of time penalty is a good idea for choosing to go to the Ferry.

Or another mechanic as was suggested a mermaid walks up asking if you wish to return to your ship.

I feel this would be a more quality of life improvement to help those unfortunate enough to become trapped.

um, that's not how mermaids work...

Aye.. the same thing with me in the DR.
Never thought I would say this... but thankfully on both occasions the Volcano killed me.
They were both spots, I would have thought, I should have never got stuck in either, hey-ho!

  • I've been wedged and stuck once in the geometry but fortunately a barrel skellie came and saved me. yesterday I couldn't use X to do any action and had to kill myself to fix.

  • @k1lroyw4sh3r3

I agree and you raise a very good point, particularly with solo pirates, when you're with a crew it's usually fairly easy to lure some skellies along to where you are, solo, not so much.

Most games now have the means by which to 'unstick' yourself when this happens?

  • @k1lroyw4sh3r3 Not a bad idea.
There have been a couple of times I seen someone get stuck in a tree and the only way we freed them was to blow them up.

A few times we had to kill ourselves because of some order of souls bug were the skeletons wouldn't spawn, we could hear the music but no skellies. We then would kill ourselves and when we got back they would be up. Having a faster way to die would be a plus instead of having to wait to drown.
