Memorializing Zylbrad and Captain Falcore

  • For those not familiar, Zylbrad and Captain Falcore are Youtubers that are, not just accomplished players, but also contribute a lot to the SoT community. I think if anyone deserves to be memorialized I think it should be them.

    Zylbrad: the "Good Sir" Tavern

I know all the taverns currently in the game already have names, but I think once another tavern is introduced into the game it should be called the "Good Sir" as a reference to something Zylbrad frequently says in his videos. Within the tavern, I also think there should be a round table with the names of the friends he plays with etched into the table (Miltiia, An Buoy, Toddyqwest, Saint Pootis, Pasta Boiii, Winky, Zyldad), and/or flyers of each in the tavern.

Captain Falcore: the "Speculations and General Ramblings" Book

For Captain Falcore, his easter egg should be a book titled "Speculations and General Ramblings" with his logo on it. I think it should be found in the captain's cabin of a wrecked ship and there should also be some paintings/writings on the wall of a couple iconic features covered in his videos like the shark and monkey or some quotes from his whispering skull video.

Those are just a couple thoughts for memorializing some of the bigger members of the community. What do you guys think, and is there anyone you think also deserves to be memorialized?

  • @shibby-544 love Zylbrad's vids. Always laugh. Great idea.

  • I won't support that idea and I will keep my opinion to myself as it would probably be against the Forum's rules.

But honestly, I sincerely believe that there are other people in the community who are more deserving something for what they have done or are doing.

  • @skulliah
Aye, Zylbrad is... well... not that fine a lad.
    Dirty mouth and mind.
That's why he'll never be on a weekly stream.

  • I'm sorry, but I'm with @Skulliah on this. While yes, they both help to make the game more popular and especialy Falcore's videos are good and even I enjoy them, there are others who should at least be picked before them. There are people in this community, who have been creating content and events for others and supporting this game long before release. Some of them already have in-game easter eggs, but some of them don't. I'm not gonna call them out in here, I know they're humble and i wouldn't want to make them look petty or entitled.

  • People have been memorialized for less.

I really don't have a preference, but to say one deserves it over another is silly.

  • @shibby-544 yes please. I'm a big fan of falcore that man gave me a new appreciation for games with in and out side of, SoT. And my crew sailed with Zylbrad in the 1 v 7 ultimate pirate combat vid. (Not too certain on the vid name but that's what in involved) sadly it was a day i wasnt online :'( but was awesome to see my crew with Zylbrad on his channel :D

I'll semi call one out - the leader and founder of Fortune, who regularly sets up server buyouts, who regularly promotes events including Brigatta and Skullball and who is a very decent Pirate indeed!

  • I'm with @Skulliah , @Sir-Lotus , on this one.

I subscribe to both Zylbrad & FaIcore, and enjoy their content.
    Each are very different.

I do appreciate greatly their contributions, the Sea would be a lot drier without their good humour & general insight.
I will tune in to see what they are up to, and generally it's a lot of fun.

    that said.....

    as @Skulliah said

    I agree.

It's not really our place to do "Call-Outs" of this nature.
It's a decision for RARE, and RARE only.
They have done a pretty good job so far internally.
This is noted by the number of references currently in game to players.
I'm sure they will wish to add to this in the future.

  • If I'm allowed to give my opinion, I could see Falcore being"Easter-egged" more easily than Zylbrad...

Falcore is a YouTube creator who gives something extra to the game like his lore related videos, or speculations even the awesome video about the shark week. That's content that can be used to pick him up and put it in the game.

Zylbrad for what I saw of him is just a lad having fun playing the game ... Like me and you. It can be funny sometimes, for the lines they use while playing... but He didn't create any community game nor anything like FrostE with Loot+Lore. For my perspective he isn't worth of being"Easter-egged".

Just my opinion, worth what it worths.

  • I have a suggestion. Stop the cult like praise and worship. No one should be memorialized in the game for being a social media or other external "celebrity". It is a sad sign of the times. Rare needs to be spending more time fixing issues and make Sea of Thieves a game deserving of everyone. Save such actions for truly deserving situations and causes.

  • Do excuse my double standards here. I love watching Zylbrad, thoroughly entertaining. However, could you imagine what a nightmare it would be if you encountered him in a server? Youd get terrorised

  • I guess I'll be the voice of dissent among the other boatswains lol. If it were up to me, I would honor both of them.

Sure there are others who do a lot for the community who are also very deserving of recognition and I hope they get it too. But both of these guys have created a ton of content out on youtube and make SoT look desirable to play.

  • @shibby-544 I don't think the process runs on nominations, to be honest.

Rare is more than capable of deciding for themselves. If they were to add stuff suggested by others, they wouldn't be Easter Eggs, they would just be community shout-outs.

I have seen 1 or two of Falcore's videos and they are pretty good but have never heard of the other. I initially thought it was one of the beard errors until I reread it.

That being said, not everyone with a YouTube account qualifies for in-game recognition.

  • Could be nice.

Zylbrad is pretty much the reason why I'm still playing to be honest.
His videos are funny and make me want to play.

I don't see a problem with mentioning people who do content outside of the forums. They add to the game just as much in my eyes.

  • @shibby-544 no they need to be meomorlieds

  • People should be memorialized for what they do in the game, not on youtube. Never heard of any of these people.

In fact, no one should really be memorialized. Why play favorites, just play the game.

    Official Forum Rules

  • @skulliah

What about your opinion would be against forum rules?

  • @triheadedmonkey

I didn't assume the process ran on nominations. I just stated this as my opinion.

Also, I didn't assume being on YouTube automatically qualified anyone, but it also doesn't disqualify them, so not sure why it had to be brought up at all.

  • @blindnev @xCALYPT0x

SoT kind of loses my attention between events, but Zylbrad's videos still keep me interested in the game which is part of the reason I think he's worth recognizing.

I'd also bet some people have bought the game or tried it on game pass after seeing his videos so he's also good for sales.

  • @sgt-palooggoo

I don't see why swearing would be a disqualifying element. Even Joe Neate occasionally swears on the live stream and SoT is an online game so it's kind of inevitable. Sure it's frowned upon in forums and most videos, and that's something that can be communicated beforehand.

A lot of the memorializing is based achieving unique and fantastic acts, and Zylbrad does that regularly.

Also, he's a young adult, of course he swears and I don't think he has a "dirtier mind" than most people his age. Not sure why he's not a fine lad.

  • @shibby-544 but there are millions of people with YouTube accounts, many who post Sea of Thieves content. Why pick one over the others?

The people that have their Gamertags in-game have done something memorable.

But again, Rare decide what is Easter Egg worthy or not and asking for it (or someone else asking for it) is usually not necessary.

  • @triheadedmonkey

The "why pick someone when others exist" isn't really a strong point. Why pick any gamer then when other gamers exist, and he does memorable things regularly. Have you even seen his videos?

As for why choose him over other YouTubers.
He has almost 1.2 million subscribers, uploads SoT videos a couple times each week and regularly gets over 100,000 views. Do you know anyone who does better other than Rare themselves?

Also yes, Rare does choose for themselves. I'm not choosing for them. Never claimed to.

  • @skulliah @Sir-Lotus @NunoAzuldimeter

I don't see how it would make them look entitled if you named anyone. I've seen threads in the past that thanked specific members of the community. It's just good nature.

I'd also want to see what you guys consider to be more for the community.

Rare doesn't just memorialize players that regularly contribute to the SoT social media community. They also memorialize unique/fantastic feats and achievements, which Zylbrad does regularly. He's like one of the greatest players in the game. Additionally, don't belittle the benefits of popularizing the game. Not only does he provide content related to SoT, but he exposes people to it which contributes to sales and Game Pass subs. Really he checks off all the boxes.

I understand if your having a more purest approach, where only people who volunteer their time for the community should be recognized, but honestly I don't that's exclusively how it should work. It isn't just thanking people, but creating lore through players' achievements. That's something Rare has stated.

  • @shibby-544

Name shaming is not allowed on the forum. You can't talk about someone in a negative way, even if it's a constructive opinion :)

Thanking someone is not shaming or giving a negative opinion about him/her.

That's why it's difficult, if not impossible, to tell you what I think of it. Even if I generalize my opinion, we know very well the persons we are talking about.

I respect your opinion on it but unfortunately all I can tell is that I disagree.

  • @shibby-544 no I haven't heard of them, whereas I have heard of the others that have had Easter Eggs because they have done something.

Lots of people have youtube accounts with millions of views, that doesn't make them good or better than anyone else.

"Because lots of random people on the internet watch" is also a weak point...you wouldn't give Justin Beiber an Oscar "because billions of views" would you?

  • @triheadedmonkey

So the whole reason you don't think they deserve recognition is because your not familiar with them?

The Justine Beiber example isn't even relative to the point. I'm talking about people within the SoT community receiving recognition in SoT. I'm not saying people doing something completely irrelevant should get recognition for something they didn't do.

I don't get how you could have such a strong opinion about something you're not familiar with. At least get to know what you're talking about.

    Video link

  • @skulliah

It's an odd perspective that you can't talk about one person without insulting someone else. Not really sure how that's relevant either.

Basically you're saying you disagree, you think other people are better deserving, but you can't say who, or why. Just disagreeing, can't explain, and washing your hands of responsibility. Really constructive. Thanks for your input.

  • @shibby-544 no, my point was they are one of many. No different or more worthy than any of the others.

The most up to date list of current in-game acknowledgements is here: https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/16959/making-our-mark-official-list-of-community-influence and they are all for a reason, not just because someone said so "because YouTube"

  • @triheadedmonkey

So your whole point is everyone is equal?

And I've never said "because of YouTube". You keep putting words into my mouth like "don't make the decision for Rare". You distort every point to make some arbitrary issue. And did you even try watching the video, or are you just saying anything to avoid admitting you don't know what you're talking about.

I've read that article you've linked before. I read it again just now. It says nothing to back you up.

Her'e's a quote from their article:

"One way that Rare wanted to celebrate the amazing community was by actually having the community shape the world and 'leave their mark' on the Sea of Thieves.

It was to the surprise of us all when we began to notice Pirates' immortalised in the game with in-game Easter Eggs.
Each tribute has a story, a legend, a reason why that pirate made their mark on the development of Sea of Thieves."

Zylbrad and Captain Falcore are members of the community. Not "because YouTube", but because they're members of the SoT community and they contribute to the SoT world and do perform great memorable acts. All your saying is somehow they're not.

  • @SHIBBY-544 As the video you included contains swearing, it has to be posted via link rather than embed. I've changed it over for you in your post.

  • @lady-aijou

    Thanks for letting me know.
