Make playing with friends a possibility

  • In a game such as Halo, if 6-8 of my friends want to jump onto a game and start playing together, we simply start a lobby, send out the invites, and the others pour in, start game, play and smile.

In Sea of Thieves, if 6-8 of my friends want to jump into a game to play with one another, 4 on one ship, and the rest on another ship, in the same lobby/server.... how do you accomplish this??? It seems you can only have 4 people at a time, and the other friends would not be able to join into the same server/ lobby to play with us.
Can we have a lobby system where we can join in on particular ships within the same servers? You know, so we can play with people we know?

  • The answer for balance reasons has been no. They don't want mega fleets taking over servers and ruining the pvp dynamic. The limit for this game is 4 players right now. There is no system in place for getting more onto a server.

I for one hope it stays that way. However, I also understand that some people have 6-8 friends they want to play with. I'm more in the category of "we need a bigger ship". Something that can actually be balanced around. Make it a whale, harder to operate, that sort of thing. I find that option preferable to people forming fleets and ruining the pvp dynamic that makes the game have any tension whatsoever.

  • This is actually an idea that I have had as well. I would love to be able to get multiple friends other than max 3. Would love to set sail with more people.

And yet, we can form alliances. still forming a fleet if that's the goal of the players.

  • @adny2 You can form shaky... unreliable alliances with strangers that may decide the alliance is no longer to their benefit or just decide they want to kill you instead. That's not that same as bringing in your posse and taking the server over. There is no trust-distrust pvp dynamic there. It's just you and your fleet of buddies sailing around basically untouchable unless there's another mega fleet on the server. (News flash: there's not that many ships on a server. Hostile takeovers would not require a huge number of players.)

People conquering servers and trashing sloops 12v1 is not a good way to keep your community engaged. People flame enough when you sink them as is in somewhat fair combat. What do you think will happen if a sloop gets wrecked by a fleet of galleons?

  • Buy Someone's boat.

Find another crew that's getting ready to leave the game and buy their boat from them. Either pay them some loot or just ask them to invite one of you onto their crew before they leave the game. Now invite the rest of your friends onto the new ship once they leave. Voila! Two ships on the same server. Rinse and repeat for a whole server to yourself.

It's not perfect, and might take awhile to set up, but I've done it several times before (with one extra ship. Never a whole server).

  • @bottledbuttfart
from my understanding, there's no more than 5 ships on a server. I seriously doubt there's any chance of 12v1 battles. And as it is right now, shaky or not, 4v1 is still a thing anyways.

But my whole point is simply to be able to have a second boat available for more of a group to join in a game together. As friends, we don't have to play all on the same team. We do that in Halo all the time. Picking sides, then going at it. Any other player we encounter would definitely be welcomed as friend or foe. We just need the ability of having just the extra few friends that wants to play together to have the option of being able to do so.

  • @captain-arcanic
Thats......not a bad idea. We only need to figure out where the extra departing gamer is on the entire map. lol.

Be friendly to strangers and tell them what your trying to do. My experiences have been mostly positive when I ask nicely.

  • Enabling us to invite friends to an empty server, instead of merging us
right away would also be a nice touch/addon to the existing gameplay.

Quality of life improvements such as "invite friends" would get rid of the
"can we buy your ship" thingy, that can be frustrating and time consuming.

2vs1, 3vs1 and 4vs1 ship battles already happen -sometimes- as it is
now with the random alliances being possible.

And not everyone wants to use the "invite friends" to do PvP on the server.
There are enough other things to do with 2 ships and just because it is possible
that -some- people could use it for 2vs1 ship battles, does not mean it would be
the -only- thing that would happen.

/+1 vote for "invite friends" to the server - please rare!
