What the Mysterious Second level of the Tavern may be used for.

  • Ahoy Maties!
If you've ever been to the Tarverns at Outposts, (We all have) you'll notice that each Tavern has a mysterious second floor.
And there's even a stairway leading to it!
    Stairs 2
    Stairs 1
    But it's broken.
Now here's where my speculation comes in:

    • We know that Forsaken Shores is probably gonna be introducing Fishing, Hunting & Cooking. (Take that with a grain of salt mates)
      Forsaken Shores
So where will you cook food?
"On the ship Mr. Palooggoo. There's already a cooking spot on the Galleon with pots and pans."
Oh yes, you'll definitely be able to cook on the ship.
But we all know that you can get a mug of Grog at the Barrel on the ship & at the Taverns.
I don't see why we can't have 2 places to cook?

So I'm thinking that the second floor of the Tavern will be opened and there'll be a kitchen style area there.

Well Maties, what do you think of this speculation?
And are you excited for Fishing, Hunting & Cooking?
Until then see ya on the seas!
    The Palooggoo's Fortune

    • PS: I also suspect that the Second level of the Tavern has the band who plays all the music in it!

Obviously the Second Floor of the Tavern is where Rare are keeping their Roadmap Plans for Sea of Thieves... unfortunately the stairs broke shortly before launch, and now all they can do to figure out what they'd planned is by Window Licking round back.
Also present within that room are the Balance Excel Sheets, and the "Grand Plan" for the Economy.

As well as all of the Pet License documents so we can have Cats, Monkeys, Parrots and Dogs. Alas., we shall remain pet less for the foreseeable future.

  • @leyvin
You mean the Stairs weren't always broken?

  • @sgt-palooggoo
They just has a velvet "VIP Only" Rope across them... that was unbreakable!
Like it was even Goku-proof., which was impressive.

Then someone nicked the rope and broke the stairs., I'm guessing it was one of the heftier pirates.

  • @leyvin
Huh, I guess the makers of the stairs never intended heftier pirates to go up there.

  • I get having a little fishing for when you sail long voyages, but why hunting and cooking? This isn't a survival game. If I have to start eating to stay alive I'm done, this game can be tedious enough as it is already.

    Do we? Lol.

That seems like alot of additions for a single update, considering how each update so far has received new content/mechanics.

It's never been that broad of a range of additions.

  • @sgt-palooggoo We don't go up there any more, not since the accident.

  • They have said in a panel that Fishing is possibly coming out with Forsaken Shores IF everything else is done on time, fishing is not their priority for FS. So if they get the time to have it up and running for FS we will get it, otherwise, it will be put on the back burner for a later time.

Fishing: I really hope they get it done in time, and I hope there is harpooning/spear fishing involved in it vs just Cane pole and bobber.
Hunting: I am an avid hunter IRL so I would like to see it in game, however, not as much as spear fishing. Which if they give us harpoons/spears I guess we could hunt pigs lol
Cooking:Not a huge fan either way.

    I'm intrigued.
    What accident?
Did it happen at all 6 Taverns?

  • @fun-director I don't think Forsaken Shores was specifically namedropped and that what they said was more along the lines of "we hear the demand" and hinting that if all went well we could be seeing something largely in demand somewhat soon.

Pretty sure another interview may have specifically confirmed fishing, but I've never heard it confirmed for Forsaken Shores, even if it went according to plan.

  • @sgt-palooggoo Second paragraph

  • @tre-oni You never know, Forsaken shores has a pretty huge lead time and they said its gonna be packed with new stuff to do and to unlock.

  • @sgt-palooggoo

Ye, there is no kitchen on the other ships. You might just cook at outposts

I keep saying forsaken Shores sounds like a sea of thieves 2.
Maybe it'll be loaded with tons of content?

at 11:09-11:45 They talk about a Priority 2 "highly talked about feature" they want to try and get into forsaken shores. Then at 11:27 the question is asked about Fishing, Joe laughs and says that is a "highly requested feature" Which is what made me think they were talking about Fishing being the priority 2 that the Forsaken Shore is going to try and get in.

But that is just my thought and hopes.

  • No idea what the devs might, at some point, put up there, but it is a Tavern ya know. It's likely just living space for the Outposts inhabitants.
If y'all take the outside staircase on the taverns, you'll come across a window on the second floor of the tavern, and there you can hold up a lantern, and peer through the back window to see a small room. It's literally just a blank room, just wooden walls and floor, no doors or any furnishings.

But it shows that there's space for more than 1 room up there.

In the meantime however, I prefer not to speculate, and get hyped over something that may, or may not, come to pass.

  • @tundra-793
    Good find there!
I couldn't see anything from the windows I tried to look through.

    As for hyping yourself up?
Yeah, it's best not to get hyped up too much for this stuff.

  • During the Golden Age of Piracy, fully-fledged taverns were more than just a place you could get a drink. They usually had an inn on the second floor - or at least a space for the tavern keeper to sleep - and offered hot meals to travelers.

I'm personally skeptical about the whole "cooking" mechanic being added to Sea of Thieves; since the game isn't your traditional Runescape or WoW style of MMO, I'm not sure what purpose cooking would serve outside of a rebalance of what foods restore how much health.

  • @sgt-palooggoo
Joe Neate Boss LairProbably a gambling hall, methinks.

  • You don't know what's upstairs? Well mate, you've been missing out. I visit there every now and then. A very discrete place where a pirate can "relax" after a long time at the sea. Selling grog is not the only business Tina runs, arr.

  • @sgt-palooggoo

We know that Forsaken Shores is probably gonna be introducing Fishing, Hunting & Cooking.

Where did they say Forsaken Shores would introduce that?

They said Forsaken Shores won't introduce new items or weapons but they are looking beyond that.
They said Fishing and Cooking is something important in a pirate fantasy but really don't expect any of that in this update.

That's how people are going to expect something that won't happen and will say "but they said...".

    Cheers!
