I've been searching for awhile now and haven't found a single statue..I only need 17 more but I was led to believe the event ends on the 25th. Am I just getting mega unlucky or did they disable it or maybe a bug?
Is the Sunken Curse still active?

Yes, it is, you have until Wednesday to complete the sunken curse. So keep those eyes and ears peeled, they are out there!

@simple-tora You might try venturing a bit further from the islands as well if you can't find any. You will be surprised how far down the shelf they can be sometimes.
Also, try the smaller islands. They will often only have one statue, but they should not be hard to find, without too much swimming. Also, islands with extensive sandy shallows or lagoons are good, because the statues will often be sitting high, half out of the water.
Avoid the bigger islands with rocky coastlines. They should still have statues, but they are likely to be harder to find.

I thought Rare said all Bilge Rat activities would be available after the event has ended, just that you won't be able to get the doubloons.
Here we go, from Rare themselves:
"We're in the final week of the latest Bilge Rat Adventure – The Sunken Curse! It's your last chance to get all the Doubloons available if you want to ensure you have all the time-limited cosmetics in your inventory before they disappear from the shops. The Commendations and Titles will still be available after the event ends, but the time-limited cosmetics and Doubloons will no longer be up for grabs"
