I was making my along the beach and suddenly it faded to black and i appeared on my boat. I noticed that i couldn't access my weapons and my inventory pretty much vanished. I decided to drown myself and after respawning my inventory and weapons worked fine however, my character's appearance had changed. He no longer had his 5 o'clock shadow, tattoos, and scars. I would remake my pirate but i don't want to lose the gold and progress I've made. Please help.

If this is true, and your character's physical appearance gets changed, such as facial features and or body type, then that is completely unacceptable and I really hope Rare has some way to revert it back to the way it was. On top of everything we really shouldn't have to worry about our characters, which some of us maybe spent hours generating with the current system to get right, having unwanted changes to their appearance from some bug.
I'm guessing it's still persistent after exiting the game and logging into a new session, is that correct?
@hillswitch so you submit the ticket in game or on these forums? I might remake and lose my hook hand i saved up for :(
yup same and that's totally understandable. Thats why I think they need to reroll every character this happened to. It takes a lot of fun out of the game for me.
I too have the same issue and submitted a ticket and got a very boilerplate response back.

The development team are working on fixing the services responsible for the issue above.
Currently the only method of resolving this issue is to exit to the main menu and matchmake back into the game (taking into account busy servers during peak times). In extreme cases this may need to be done multiple times. However, the issue should only be one of delay, not of permanent lossIssue #2
Players are noticing that no gold reward or reputation reward is given upon completing a quest.
Solution:
The gold and reputation rewards should merely be delayed. This is a known issue, the team at RARE are working on a fix. This may take some time however.

Yes it's persistent and I'm still waiting on a response to how I can change it back, super bummed out about it.
Wow that response didnt even mention the issue. I see those 3 issues are in the game, but they should add this character feauture bug as #4 .. A lot of players have experienced this and still are. Having your character in a persistent world change due to a bug is very demotivating to play.

It was a ridiculous response and you can tell they didnt even read the ticket when they closed it at first yesterday at 9am cst.
At 10 am I respondedBoilerplate responses I see.
It's not items.. my character fundamentally looks different. In a game that forces you to use a IPG and spend a lot of time trying to get the prefect pirate for it all the sudden to be completly different looking.
I have loaded in and out multiple times.. all my weapons and clothes are back but the character is still different
He went from a red beard and tattoos to a black beard. Thats is not something that can be swapped at the vanity chest
I also compiled a list of similar forum links in it for them.
Haven't heard back in last 24 hours. I don't want to even play with the character much if this is permanent because I will just lose all progress when I try to create another one.@stonedscallywag I made a new ticket about it more detailed like the way you posted aswell. Lets not give up on this. Like you said our character is permanent, we cannot roll a second one and deleting is out of the option cause it will delete all progress aswell. We just want our character back.
Item number 4 on the list. They said they are aware of it and to contact support (there is a link) to see if they can do something about your character.
