Does the Megalodon... Kraken 2.0

    @gloog

The journey is the best reward!

Would you seriously argue that two monster boss fights shouldn't have any reward..?

Your reward is that you survived the encounter and was able to continue on yer voyage.....yar!

  • @oneeyed-w1lliam you can blindfold yourself and get away from the meg and, for the kraken, you can shoot down two tentacles then blindfold yourself to get away 😛
They aren't very dangerous. I'd like them to be and I'd agree with your sentiment if it were difficult.

  • So after reading the replies, it looks like there are two sides of this topic.

Those who wants rewards and those who believe that the surviving these fearsome beasts is a reward.

Let me tell you something lads. It is not hard to survive those beasts. I would be satisfied if it was hard. Many of you probably played Dark Souls. Now surviving a Boss in that game is a reward itself! But it also gives you extra reward which is the in game currency "souls".

Now this game is not Dark Souls but that game's risk-fun system is really well designed. And we can have such a system in Sea of Thieves as well.

    Allow me to explain;
We are pirates which set sail to do certain things that allows us to make some gold. With this gold we can get beautiful cosmetics for our ship and character. And the "Goal" is to be a "Legend". Frankly speaking, I do not want to become a Legend and it couldn't be less attractive at this point.

What I love about the game is the journey! The things that could happen to me and my crew! Which brings us to the beasts, Kraken and Megalodon. Encountering such fearsome beasts should be the most troublesome and also the most rewarding moments of the game.

I know this is not a singleplayer game and we cannot give the players such awesome rewards like new ships that makes you go underwater or maybe fly i don't know don't push me...

But this game ain't giving us anything for the Kraken. Just an achievement which says "Kraken Good Job". Do you know what else gives us an achievement? Thats right eating a banana! Now I don't know about you lads but i don't thing beating the Kraken and eating a banana is on the same level of achievements.
I am not asking for the stars. I don't want to deal more damage in game or have a better armor. That will unbalance the game and no one wants that.

What @Rare-Employee 's should do is take a step back and watch us getting attacked by one of these monsters by the 5th time and see the reaction on our faces. I don't even flinch. Honestly it is such a burden and I just feel like "I really don't want to deal with you right now".

If there was something even if it was unknown, something that could come out of this fight which takes my time and resources, maybe then i would be happy to give what i have to offer. I am not even getting a calamari from defeating the so called fearsome and the most terrifying beast which is the Kraken itself.

We can have sails, figureheads, flags, titles, hats, shirts, tattoos, bite/suck marks, ship lanters that has Kraken's tentacle marks on them. Anything!

We have some of these for the Megalodon. And for which i am grateful.
But that was for the campaign! Now they are roaming the seas and i am not getting anything but my resources being used!

Even a hundred gold is something...
We can take Megalodon's eeth and sell them to any of the factions get some gold for it. We can take a limb out of the Kraken and sell it as well. Maybe add a new currency which will be earned by only killing these beasts and with that currency we can buy cosmetics that is about those beasts.

But at this point The Megalodon is the Kraken 2.0 and I am sure it will stay serving no purpose and it just feels like a cheap mod that is integrated to the game by force.

Uhhh what's not reasonable about wanting players to participate in 2 out of the 3 emergent events ? 🤔

But that's not the post at all. The post is begging for loot. "Wanting to participate" is entirely subjective as well. For example, should goombas in Super Mario give you a reward? Surely, I don't want to "participate" in killing them, because they are in the way of my objective (finish the map). Might as well remove every enemy in the game then, since they don't give a reward, right? This is what your point boils down to in the end. If it doesn't have a reward, it doesn't have a purpose somehow.

There you go again. You keep comparing extremely rare 'more complex' encounters (kraken, meg) to trash mobs (skeletons, Mario goombas). Your purposely being super obtuse lol.

My point boils down to the fact that these two encounters are objectively (time, resources, world opportunity) better to skip than do multiple times.

  • @musicmee I don't care about keeping my loot...

  • @gloog, @Lenny2k3 does that he really believes that Kraken and Megalodon shouldn't give any rewards and he compares those beasts with skeletons as well. I don't see a point where you can agree with this person.

Yes, to make the point that not every hindrance in every instance in every game needs a reward.

My point boils down to the fact that these two encounters are objectively (time, resources, world opportunity) better to skip than do multiple times.

Yes? That's called a game obstacle, which serves the purpose of standing in the way of the player.

    @RealBabbus
No he wont, because I fundamentally disagree with the notion that everything needs a reward. Then again, you couldn't even grasp why I compared it to lesser elements in the game though, so there goes your opinion right in the trash.

  • @lenny2k3 You can one hit and be on your merry way when it comes to a skeleton mate show me you can do that with the Kraken or Megalodon.

Time is what we waste the most. Some say time is money. Kraken can give us gold in game. Problem solved. Gold does not affect the gameplay, it is a reward you will be getting that i honestly do not understand why are you pushing away a reward which you also will be getting.

Im not asking for an armor that is made out of Kraken's arms and Megalodon's teeth which makes me undying...

  • @realbabbus Are there any games(other than sea of thieves) that don't reward you for killing enemies and also has progression? I can't think of any.

  • @betsill Sea of Thieves doesn't have much of a progression but we still can buy things so i guess that counts. Come to think of it i really can't think of a game that doesn't gives a reward for something that counts as an enemy.

Hmm i really want to find a game tho maybe one of the most realistic games might not give you a "reward". What is the most realistic or maybe simulation based game?

  • @musicmee Meg probs wanted to fight the kraken too, but didn't know that the kraken is just a bunch of tentacles with no body lol

  • @betsill Hhahahah maybe they will add a body for it soon

  • @gloog I've been playing with random crews the past few days to mix things up, and I didn't realize that a vast majority of the people playing are children. I'm afraid that the forums merely reflect this.

  • @xcalypt0x said in Does the Megalodon... Kraken 2.0:

@gloog Wow. I cannot believe that Rare ignored one of the topics that has garnered the most feedback, the lack of a reward from Karen, and made the same mistake with Megan.

Fighting Karen is simply unfun after the first time. It's a waste of resources and time. The only time it is somewhat fun is when you are running from another ship and it adds pressure to a high intensity situation. But even still, she becomes annoying.

Adding a reward to both will make the encounters so much more fun. Knowing that you have the opportunity to gain something makes the encounters feel special since you can't really seek them out. It becomes an "Oh boy! Here's my chance!" moment.

    I'm a little disappointed Rare...

I agree. Plus they could have done something interesting like have them spawn as world bosses with a marker on the map, and when they’re killed you can get loot, including crafting materials.

In an early IGN interview they said the Kraken would drop loot that could be used to make unique cosmetics, such as a Kraken-tooth hat.

Unfortunately they never spoke of it again and clearly never implemented the mechanic. It almost seems like they said several things would be in the game just to hype the launch and drum up sales for a cash grab.

Difficulty has no relation to my argument. One hurdle can be more difficult or problematic than another, it still doesn't warrant a reward.

Gold i absurdly abundant in this game, if anything, the game needs more ways (at least one) way of losing it. The playerbase will shatter once a good portion of it attains legend, which they probably will now relatively quickly because of the static leveling gained from the bilge rats when that gets released.

Sea of Thieves doesn't have true progression, so counting experience which other classic games uses, is not really comparable(because that's a requirement to continue, since it actually affects gameplay).

  • @Lenny2k3 Sea of Thieves doesn't have true progression, so counting experience which other classic games uses, is not really comparable(because that's a requirement to continue, since it actually affects gameplay).

What the heck is "true progression". In a ton of games, you don't have to progress your character to beat the game. Dark souls, Mass Effect, The Witcher , Tomb raider, and MANY MANY others. It makes the game harder, but you can do it. If we say that reaching pirate legend(or just getting any cosmetic in the game) is progression it 100% is a requirement. You can't get anything without "progressing" in the game either by getting gold or rep(which are completely tied together).

    lol

  • @xcalypt0x If these encounters would drop something once a day (real world time) it would make the encounter so much more meaningful. imagine if the kraken or meg dropped a legendary skull. you would have more pvp encounters.

i can imagine that skull would have a much larger beam of light so you could easily see it in the water.

    c'mon, rare!

edit: actually a tooth (for meg) and maybe an eye (for kraken) would make more sense.

edit#2: i guess that wouldn't work with the shared world nature. still, give us drops. so what if we farm them. they are hard to find anyway.

  • I think something that would be really cool to add would be akin to the game Crossout but, with ship decoration/swag. Not extra performance or damage output, purely decoration.

Take this image for example, a simple skeleton ship google search would yield.

    Model

So in essence you take part in these "events" possibly acquire skulls/bones/eyes/tentacles/fins/teeth/barnacles .etc and add them to your ship's deck/hull/sails. Just for added customization.

  • I completely agree that there should be some sort of reward.
I wont lie, my first encounter with the Kraken and the Meg (yesterday, actually) were amazing. Our crew got super chaotic and it was super fun, challenging and funny.
But now there's really no point in killing them.
It's sad how two of the most exciting moments I had playing the game will never be the same again
