What do you have to do to get a good crew?

  • Rare has been bragging of how the game has changed and reduced combat encounters in half. Now people spawn into our game, drop our treasure off of the back of the boat, and blow up the ship. Most of our problem encounters have been our own team. How do you fix this?

  • @lavastew99 You've just got to brig your trolls as soon as they show signs of trolling. Keep them in there until they leave or they want to play nice. Best way to deal with team trolls at the moment.

  • Its the second night in a row walking away empty handed because of my own crew.

  • Use a discord. Find a discord with like minded people and you'll never have free spots in your crew ever again.

If you're on PC the app is easy and if you're on X-box my advice is to download the phone app instead (the X-Box app is a bit cumbersome).

Make sure you're blocking and reporting those crew members that do this on XBOX as well so that they are investigated for toxic behaviour. If you have video evidence as well it's always worth letting Rare know through a support ticket.

  • @lavastew99 Discord is a good place. I recommend Fleet of Thieves, but Rare does have their own. Otherwise you could always use Xbox's own Looking For Group service.

  • Are you using a microphone?

  • I say this with the utmost satisfaction.

As in all games alike Randomplayers are the biggest sc°m the entire humanity has to offer.
Not everyone of them is sc°m, but all sc°m and the biggest of it will always be Randomplayers.

Its only apparent. People show their ugly pathetic selfs mostly when you give them power.
The power to bear no consequences can be such a power.

So stop being a selfentitled renegade that "no one understands and wants to play with "... ;)
and start seeking people you like, who like you in return, and start to play together.

  • As mentioned above, try the Search a Group feature on the xbox app. I have teamed up with multiple players who I now play regularly with.

I wish that you could have a text chat option for brigging. Sometimes I don't use a mic and letting people know that you voted to put someone in the brig is difficult and almost impossible.

  • The thing is you are solo or 2 manning the galleon. Thats just a bad idea and the game already gives you better solutions.

  • @lavastew99 aside from the obvious play with people you know, when i have no friends available i will queue with a duo sloop. if they leave i leave. when you start together its usually better or at least you can decide do i want this person on my team or not before getting deep into a voyage and then they randomly join in.

  • @commandrew This is also a problem, because if we brig and they leave then we (usually my cousin and I) are left alone on a galleon with loot unable to defend ourselves against a team of four

  • @captainlongben Thank you! I will try to use this resource!

  • @schelmflosse300 You set the perfect example. Sea of Theives is supposed to be a team based game. It is like you are an owner of a business and you hire an employee that quits after the first day and makes you work harder to accomplish your financial goals.

So metaphorically, here we are on the community forums. I post a problem that we (usually my cousin and I) have when we play and join games to play on galleons so we can complete voyages faster. Everyone else posts resources and ideas to help alleviate the problem. You drop in (like others have on our ship) and be ignorant to the issue saying I am "self entitled". You sir, are representation of the problem.

I usually have 6-10 hours a week to play. Half of those hours are usually wasted. If I lose out to an enemy crew so be it, but to my own crew is unacceptable. It goes to show the state of the game and the amount of engagement. It also frustrates me that Rare is showcasing content that would have been beneficial on launch.

So yes, my initial statement was slightly ignorant, but the work and integrity behind it was legitimate.

  • closed crew, invite friends... also try looking for group, works wonders👍

  • @lavastew99 the most reasonable method to turn around this troll crew member is to play in closed crews, with friends or building your crew outside the game.
Asking for players in SoT media's, like this forum, discord, Xbox clubs, etc.

And don't forget to take note of the gamertag of those trolls you encounter to report them as toxic players in the support page

  • Not all randoms are trolls, but most trolls are randoms. Because few people will choose to play with them again due to their obnoxious behavior, so they have to roll random in order to be in a group.

My suggestion would be to either transfer to another server without them (this may not be an option sometimes, as you may have loot or an open voyage), utilize the looking for group function (be sure to make it clear that shenanigans won't be tolerated) while running a closed crew, and finally, REPORT! If trolls are reported enough, eventually they will face consequences, such as being banned.
