Mermaids should only appear when the ship sinks

  • Just a suggestion.
Practically all players throw themselves off the ship and try to catch the ladders, defend the ladders is easy I know, but is something that I do everytime and I don't like, is unrealistic (some will say that is just a game, and throw themselves from the cannons is unrealistic too).
But if there's no mermaid, you will think two times before throw yourself off the ship.
    Sorry for my english.

  • So what if you by mistake fall off your solo sloop filled with chests and it sails away?

    You just sunk this thread

  • @PSK76
How did you fall off the ship?
If you were playing alone you should be careful.
But the problem is that no one stays on the ship, most jump off to do anything while waiting for a mermaid.
Removing the mermaid may not be the solution, but you must have a solution for it.

  • Some game mechanics are there to keep the game “Fun”....

Don’t get me wrong, realism can be fun but this is a Pirate “Game” not a simulator.

And turning a Galleon around is a 3-5 minute ordeal so...we’re gonna need them Mermaids 🧜‍♀️

  • @psk76 they could add mermaid if u play solo only maybe :P so

  • heres a little better solution, still have mermaid, but have it pop up a lot slower, that way if @PSK76 falls off his sloop he can still have a chance to get his loot back, and boarders are still stuck at see for a while if they miss the target

  • Your mermaid only pops up once you are far enough away from your ship. If you’re jumping off your boat and trying to board the enemy and miss, then you’re still waiting for your ship to get the set distance away before you can take a mermaid. Mermaid doesn’t just pop up because a pirate is in the water ever.

  • @gutterangel im fully aware of that (im guessing this was to me) however if a ship is full wind, then the galleon is going at speed, someone then has the ability to basically keep jumping one after another.

Now don't get me wrong im also fully aware of there is things you can do to avoid, ie dodging them etc, its just one of the many tricks to do. but slowing them jumping repeatedly could be a good counter, as that way ship is down a member should you catch up

  • I was thinking about this. What if the mermaid could only be summoned, like, once every fifteen minutes. People would think twice before using their rescue frivolously, but it would still be there when needed.

  • Please tell me this is a joke post. There's about a hundred reasons a mermaid is important and should not be altered.

I am going to say you have not explored this games potential to much to see the value of the mermaid mechanics.

  • @genuine-heather

I like that idea... make the mermaid a more careful decision overall.

  • @kibbles67

I’ve explored all the avenues where mermaids are useful, and no joke... it needs some adjusting. Leaving your ship to ambush another ship knowing you can just teleport back is silly. There should be a heavier consequence for making that kind of decision.

Mermaids should need be summoned... and a crew should only have a limited number of mermaid calls they can use per hour or whatever.

At the very least, it would be interesting to just have the developers change things up like this for a short time and see the resulting change of strategy. It can always be changed back, but it freshens up the gameplay and keeps us engaged. What would be the harm in that?

  • @loopct in that sense i agree it would be interesting to test out for a period of time. But also I can see many people with loot falling off their boats and potentially loosing everything. It does happen quite often. Specially after a few grogs during a long sail

  • @psk76 you just lost your job
