Bar games?

  • Wouldn't it be cool if they introduced little games you could compete with each other at? Going to the tavern, or maybe even somewhere on the ship you could put a checkers board, or play some sort of simple card game, or something. Each of the people could even place bets.

The different regions of the map could even have different games at their taverns to help differentiate the areas of the world.

  • Yeah it would be a cool way to meet other people and maybe even join their crews. Anything that adds interaction between players is a good thing.

  • While minigames are fun, SoT already struggles with player engagement (that effects other players).
Perhaps some PvP oriented Voyage Contacts, Like manning a 6 player Man'O'War loaded with trade goods to multiple outposts with all other players incentivised to attack.
    Stuff like that, ya?

  • I think minigames are best served as ship activities, or something that occurs outside of the main game. The problem with activities that draw people to taverns is that it effectively takes people off of the seas, thus reducing the chances of player encounters. I think it's best to focus on activities that keep boats visiting various locations as it increases the odds of emergent gameplay.

That being said, I still think this game needs a pre-game lobby for such activities, as it would be a great way to meet new players without just hopping on a ship and increase the social aspect of the game. This way it wouldn't impact a specific server population.

  • who will babysit our ships while we are in the tavern?

  • @luke-pawlowski said in Bar games?:

Only if they add gambling haha.

  • Even games like arm wrestling or drinking competitions where whoever mashes/waggles the thumb stick the fastest wins (think mario party) would be a hoot.

  • @drunkpunk138 or an island like tortuga where all pirates get together to drink, gamble and do other things where pvp isn't allowed. They could have pig races you could bet on, chicken catching contests, so many cool ideas.

  • C******e bar league

  • @paddymck ok, that word is a no no. The game where you through the bean bags into the hole. Not my fault they gave it a naughty name

  • @teammastadon I love the idea of pig races! That would be exciting.

  • There are four games mentioned in lore with instructions on how to play them.

The four games are: Cho-han, Karnath, Liar's Dice and Betty.

These you can find in the Tales From the Sea of Thieves book. There are other games referenced in the book as well but they are explained in anyway.
