Multi-crew Content/Bigger Party Sizes

  • Ahoy!

Just a couple things I would like to bring up. First off, the new content releases requiring more than a full crew's worth of people is awesome! Love working with a larger crew to accomplish difficult tasks. However a few problems arise with this content.

A lot of the time it is extremely difficult to find a crew that is willing to cooperate to down content. Also, when/if you do happen to find a crew that is willing to work with you, it can be quite easy to get double crossed with a well placed gun powder if they decide you have something worth taking. Then there is also accidental friendly fire that has to be dealt with, possibly leading to a fellow crewman's death or an unplanned sunken ship perhaps. Also with the way the servers are, you cant even search for an additional crew to help through the forums because it is near impossible to queue into the same server as someone else.

A few solutions I had to this. First off, being able to queue into servers with up to 8 people. Giving different ship options appropriate to the crew size you are going with up to a maximum of 2 ships. (example. Party of 6 people could either have 2 galleons, or a galleon and a sloop ect.) Another option, being able to invite to party via in game menu (essentially allowing a once hostile pirate to gain friendly status and can no longer be effected by friendly fire). The last and hopefully not the best solution would be to allow all content to be done by a single crew, which I would rather not see, but it is quite frustrating spending 1 hour plus server hopping just to find someone that is willing to do the additional content with you.

Thanks for your time, a concerned pirate, Snyp3show

  • This concerns me even more with today's content release, and i hope a viable solution can be sought out.

  • My concern is similar so I'm going to post here. I do not want to play with random people. I've had my fill of years of bs from the Xbox gaming community. While I applaud your effort to get people together, I'm not interested in trying to coordinate gameplay with kids. I'm an adult, with plenty of adult friends, who play Xbox together regularly. We swear. We talk about adult topics. We are not the type of people some parents want their kid playing with.

Yet, here we are. No way to get on the same server with our friends who play the game. We're limited to a hard 4 players, and there are about 8 of us that could log in at any given night and want to play. We generally average 5, and it is literally impossible to sail side by side with our friends.

My recommendation would be if you are going to continue to force progression through teaming up, please allow for us to team up with people we already know.

I'm not going to even go into how these places will instantly become hot zones for griefers to mess with people. I'll say this much. If this expansion comes and goes and I can't get all the doubloons because I've been forced to search endlessly in game chat for crews that aren't going to sink my ship I think I'll just quit playing and wait for Skull and Bones next year.

  • I appreciate the reply @Man-vs-Gravity and agree 100% with everything you said. I hope we can get this thread noticed and have Rare take a step in the direction they need to go. It's not like making changes to accommodate people grouping together with 2 ships will stop random people getting together on servers. It will just ensure people in our situation will for sure get to experience all the content without the struggle of finding people we enjoy playing with and that aren't hostile randomly on our server.

  • @snyp3show I think having a party of 8 people on 1 server is a great idea. That is the only problem I personally have had with the game is finding people to complete the same voyages or spawning to empty servers.

  • @man-vs-gravity It could also open the door for "Fleet Wars" lol

you mean an proper pirate game?
I'm starting to get sick of defending this game (which for some reason I still usually like playing)

So you bought a multiplayer game with cartoonish grafic with the knowledge that the game servers can be and will be full of kids ?

And about the adult topics: You are unable as adult to stop to talk like that for one day to be able to play with other players together to get the megalodon / skeleton throne event done ?

I hope that we get more ships with bigger crew sizes but for these events it doesn't matter because i guess that you always would need help from strangers to be able to finish those events .

  • Another thing that has come up in discussion among my friends. If people are concerned about 8 people running a server, there must be a way to queue into something like a "fleet server". So you will only get queued into a server with other "fleets" per say. Or instead of that even, allow 8 people to group up and queue into the same server, but still be represented as different crews (ie. would need to watch friendly fire during ship battles, and fights, and would need to divide loot accordingly for equal share) That way they aren't totally overpowered, and has a couple cons to it.

  • It doesn't matter what type of game you go into, whether it's cartoonish or not you're going to run into kids. And from what I have seen from the Xbox community most of them are super immature rude little kids that like to scream into their head sets and they cuss more than I do. I have 2 kids around me all day.. and when their bed time rolls around and I get free time, I don't want to be forced to que up with some kid who can't control their voice level.

I appreciate that Rare made this game with an awesome idea in their heads, but I personally feel like they are seriously holding their game back by limiting players and forcing them to spend so long trying to find others that aren't going to just screw them over. I love the cutthroat side of Sea of Thieves, I'm 100% for it, however if the game is going to literally force you to need two separate crews to complete an expansion/event whatever you want to call it, they should try to find a guarantee that everyone is going to be able to do it. Especially since as time goes on the less likely people are going to be able to finish those missions once others have already completed it.

If they don't open the game up to bigger parties or allow groups of friends who play together regularly que together I don't see the game lasting for years like they intend. Our group already has to rotate out friends and all of our schedules are different. We spent so long trying to get together for the Megalodon that one of our friends missed out due to their busy work schedule.

  • @t31j4
It really doesn't matter if you wanna play with kids or not. The servers are full of kids and if you use ingame voice chat then you have to deal with it. There are no separate Adult and Kid servers and you always play with kids on the same server either as team together or in pvp against them. The age rating for this game is for 12 years old kids. So if you wanna have a mature game then this game isn't for you.

I don't want to be forced to que up with some kid who can't control their voice level.

There are enough other adult players around they are willing to make a team with you. And yes that may be strangers at the start but friends at the last. No one is forced to make a team with kids, just seek some adult players on the same server and team up with them.

  • @durengo-germany
"just seek some adult players on the same server and team up with them." You make it sound like this is an easy task. This is what we are trying to accomplish but it can take hours to find someone on your current server to find someone that 1) isn't hostile, 2) you can stand playing with and 3) that is wanting to do the same missions/content you are currently working on. It would be a lot easier to just search for people on forums and be able to queue up with enough people to complete all the content.

  • I’ve been preaching this for a while this thread needs to blow up

This is the only way I'd support this, as it would be an absolute horrible experience for everyone not in that fleet. However, I would totally support it in this form.

I do gotta say though, that things like "do this activity with another crew" would be largely irrelevant with fleets. It seems the whole idea is to get out there and wade through the aggression to find a crew that isn't going to fight you. With a mechanic to just throw two crews together, the spirit of the activity is essentially lost and the point to the whole "bring crews together" means nothing. I also think forcing it in every event is the absolute wrong way to do it, and it should only be included where it makes sense. But that's a totally different topic.

  • @man-vs-gravity Check my recent thread post, I have stated a solution currently in game for your issue :) Thank you!

  • @drunkpunk138

Well from my understanding, the whole work with another crew aspect wouldn't be about having to "wade" through the aggression but more so to just get people playing with people they dont know. If there was a mechanic to throw a couple crews together, that creates purpose for a "Looking for group/people" forum where you could go to find others to play with and be able to get into a server with those people easily.

Yes it can take hours like it also can take hours in other games to get groups and allies together.

I played many mmorpgs so i know about what i write here . No one said ever that it is always easy to find teammates. Sometimes it is a pain to find enough strangers to be able to make together a dungeon raid in a fanatsy mmorpg but that's how it is. And it's no different here in this sea of thieves game .

The difference to other games is that no one complains so much about it.

So yes , if you have no luck it can take hours. Really not a big deal or Problem at all .

It's really a problem that players they are unable to find a team into 2 seconds have enough time to complain about it here in the forum hours long.

It's also a problem that players complain about that they can't find teammates are unable to use the communication systems in general because they don't know how to use them.

It's also a big Problem that these players are no social minded ones because all what they ever did before if a other player gets in sight was that they killed them into pvp.

And the worst problem is that players read the patch notes and that they complain right away that they are unable to find teammates without to even bother to try to find some other players

And another problem are all the single players they hate it to make teams because they prefer to do all solo.

And the next big problem are all the players they think and say that everything is impossible . If something is impossible for you then only because you choose to think that it is impossible. The prove that it isn't impossible in general is that many other players get it done.

This right here i dont understand. I can reply on these forums at anytime of the day from my phone when i have a spare minute, so dont assume I am on here for HOURS complaining. And second I'm not complaining I am simply voicing my opinion and offering a solution. I work a full time job which requires me to be on call all hours of the day, I'm married with 2 very young kids. When i sit down at the end of the day I dont have hours to find people to do content with so it is a big deal and a problem. When im done my day, i wanna be able to sit down, relax and enjoy the content a game has to offer. I have made plenty of online friends who play games around the same time of night i do. And these are the people i should be able to group with and do content with. And we should have access to all the content without some gimmick that requires me to attempt to find others to play with when i have already spent years building friendships and communities online with people i can stand to play with and that play at the same hours of the day i do.

  • Some very interesting things were said on this topic out at E3! This video bears watching :)

  • @lady-aijou thank you very much for responding with that video, as i was unable to watch most of E3 this year. Very glad to hear that they are definitely looking into it, and look forward to seeing what they end up coming up with.

  • Just give us the man-o-war

  • @snyp3show sagte in Multi-crew Content/Bigger Party Sizes:

, i wanna be able to sit down, relax and enjoy the content a game has to offer.

I hear this argument all the time "i wanna relax" and the same players tell me right after that that they wanna be able to built up fleets with friends to be able to have epic pvp fleet battles. PVP isn't relaxing and in general isn't this game a game for relaxers. And they also complain that the game gets boring because there is no or less action. And right after that they explain that they wanna play skull and bones ! Because of ? Because the action title skull and bone is mor relaxing as sea of thieves ?

I have no idea where this argument come from , no one said ever that this game is developed only for relaxers. Mahjong , solitaire or tetris is a game for relaxers.

I don't prefer a boring game that brings me to sleep only because 0,1 percent of all players wanna have a relaxing time into the game. If they wanna have that then they also could play bingo in a retirement center.

You didn't say that the superbowl must be changed to be a more relaxing game only because you wanna have more relaxing time into this game.

I know that many peoples didn't focus on a game anymore... i know peoples they play a game and watch tv or have a phonecall at the same time...and i know also players they play one game on the pc or xbox and at the same time they play a other game on the i phone.

I'am not such kind of player .. if i decide to play a game then i stay focused on it. And even if i have not enough time to play much... if i play this game then i play it and if i can't play it because i have other things to do then i do the other things .

But I would never claim that a game has to developed and advanced individuell for me so that it is able to follow my personal habits and free times or work times. Because this game is not only for me , it's for the players .

I'm not the kind of player who uses the keyboard or the game controller with one hand, has the phone on his ear and one eye on the tv and the other one on the computer screen and repair the car with the other hand and that all at the same time. And no game of the world must be able to guarantee that this is even possible.

And if i can't find a group into a game to be able to make a raid but the majority of the players are able to find groups then i can't claim that the game must change like i will no matter about all the million oher players they don't wanna have those changes.

I can't claim that RARE have to remove all challenges from the game only because i wanna have a relaxed time with the game. Time limited events plus the need of grouping and to build teams with strangers are those kinds of challenges.

This forum is also used only by a minority of all sea of thieves players . RARE have to figure out what the majority wanna have and what not.

And many players they make the statement that they wanna be able to build fleets with friends also mentioned that they are unable to get enough players together for a own crew and that it is impossible to find enought players to finish events like the hungering deep ? And some of them also say that they prefer to can do everything in the game as single player. I read that and realise that the game technical ability to build fleets doesn't matter because they are unable to build up those fleets because they are less social minded in general. They are already completely overwhelmed and that's why the are not into the position to even get only one full galleon crew together ( no matter that they mentioned that hey have many friends) .And then i realise some of them even don't know how the communication system works into the game. And then i read more topics from them and i realise that these players are tottaly helpless because they even don't know how to find players for a crew on facebook , twitter, discord channels and on teamspeake. And they are also unable to use this forum here to get a group together because they seems to don't know how they can do it.

A fleet leader need a high social competence..the most player they complain and claim that they wanna be fleet leaders didn't own this competence otherwise they wouldn't use the word "impossible" so much. If this simple game is already too complicated for you to be able to get enough players together for only one full galleon crew how could you be able then to command a fleet of players how could you manage to get a fleet together ?

, i wanna be able to sit down, relax

That not happens if you have to build up and to manage a fleet. It takes a lot of time for this game it is not a 5 minute game for the midday break and if you wanna manage a fleet then it will be more time consuming as before. There are players around they tell me that they have no time to play because of the familly and the work ... but they wanna be fleet manager . If you haven't enough time to play the game in general ...then you have much less time as before if you also have to care about a own fleet. And it's not only to get many shipcrews together to be able to build a fleet , you have to be also able to coordinate all these ships on the map and into the world.

And even if you do not have a fleet leader but a fleet council instead , did you really think the coordination of this fleet would be a careless 5 minute relaxing thing ?

Did you ever manage a own guild into another game ? You should know that it can be much work.

You wanna be able to sit down and relax ? If everyone into your fleet have the same attitude then you can count on that that in the middle of a fleet battle they all do exactly that ... they are careless about the battle just sit down and relax ... and get killed. So it is also a matter of how to run a fleet succesful.

  • @man-vs-gravity
"No way to get on the same server with our friends who play the game."

There is a way. Find another galleon and convince them to invite one of your friends and then leave. Now you have two galleons on your server. It's not a very convenient way, but possible.

  • i have wanted the option to "fleet" since day one. i agree that it should be a limit of 2 ships. also that it should be able to be done from the title screen or in game so that you can bring all your friends or make new ones more effectively, i have too many people i want to play with and it does't feel good having to choose between friends i would rather play with them all
