Broken PvP

  • The PvP in this game is broken, not the battles on the ships, which is also pretty broken, i mean the sword and gun fights.
I was in a sword fight where i shot myself out of a cannon on to a gallieon with only one person on it because i lost my ship and wanted to die so i thought i'd go out trying. I launch myself out of the cannon onto there ship it's just the one guy, he shoots at me with a sniper misses i hit him with the sword about 3 times, light attack. Then he pulls his sword out starts to block my attacks i hit him another 3 times while he is blocking me. I guess at this point he realizes he cant block every attack, so he starts to fight back he hit my 2 times with light attacks and it killed me.
Why is that possible? I hit him a total of 6 times with light attacks and he doesn't die, but i get hit twice and die? And you can't say i was at low health because before i shot myself out of the cannon i ate the last few bananas i had in my inventory.
Another case of this happening is when i was playing with my uncle and a sloop attacked our sloop and one of the guys hopped on our boat. My unle and i were both using blunderbusses and i hit the guy with a shot and my uncle claimed to have hit the guy twice with his and he just tanked both of them and ended up killing us both.
There was also this one time when my cousin, my uncle, and i were in a gallieon and we got attacked a a skull fortress by a little sloop with 2 guys on it. We were doing the "strat" where you pull up by the side of the island and shoot cannons at the entrance while a guy baits the skeletons out. so while this happens the sloop sneaks up on us and at first i thought that my uncle and cousin had the boat on lock, so i didnt go back the boat for like a good 30 seconds. They started to say they were taking on too much water, so i go back the boat help them repair the ship up then we start firing back at the sloop for about 5 minutes. The sloop by now had stopped shooting at use because we had been loading shot after shot into their ship, but the ship just wasnt sinking. after a while we were getting low and cannonballs s o i ran back onto the island and got some and just kept going back and forth bringing cannonballs to the boat. By now we had been shooting at this sloop for like 10 minutes and it just wouldnt sink. Then out of no where the sloop starts shooting back and then our boat just completely despawns, doesnt sink, just disappears and the mermaid comes out of the water.
Actually a great game. I got high hopes for this game but if they don't find a way to fix this combat system then i think the game will last as long as Microsoft and Rare are wanting it to.

  • Cheats. Hacks. Low lifes. I don't think I missed any other important information for you.

  • @squirrelsquatch I have had the same issue with battles I am on the xbone. Not only the battle mechanics that’s p*****g me off but the whole skull fortress. Me and another boat crew took out over half of the waves only to have some pc players skink both our boats kill everyone and take the island, we fought back only to finish the skull island and yet again loose the whole lot to the SAME pc players. With no chance of recovering any off it. I think this needs to be looked into as console players have a Massive disadvantage and I am fast loosing faith in this game.

  • @th3-ch4dw1n As a PC player I don't know where to begin, this literally just sounds like you got outplayed by better players. The game is incredibly balanced the way it is maybe a few things here and there but it has nothing to do with cross-play.

  • @bkr-vasily nah mate seriously something was off. I play pc my I have a decent rigg but it’s not really set up for sea of thieves ( I need more ram and graphics card) there was something off. I mean 2 crews with a total of 6 all on xbone being bested by 3 on pc. I can’t vouch for the other players but my crew are good shots and sneaky.

  • @th3-ch4dw1n You may very well have ran into our crew :^)

  • @bkr-vasily 😂 doubt it

  • @squirrelsquatch Without video to back up your claims, all of these anecdotes seem like little more than tall tales.

You lost your ship, but still had access to a cannon? So... what, you just sat around on an island/fort, waiting for a ship to sail close enough?

Are you sure that sniper bullet missed you?
Are you sure he only fired it once? Not at all before you landed?
Are you sure you didn't take any fall damage from blasting yourself out of a cannon?
You didn't hit him 6 times. You hit him ABOUT 3 times, and he blocked 3 (according to your story). That equates to (about) 4.5 hits worth of damage, not 6.

Blunderbuss only one-shots at melee range, or VERY close to it. Anything beyond that and it's less effective than a pistol.

Ships don't sink after a specific amount of damage. If you're hitting the same spot repeatedly, you're doing NOTHING to sink it, except denying the repair of a single hole, which can easily be dealt with by intermediate bailing. Which probably explains the period of time the sloop stopped shooting at you. Or you got lucky and killed him while he was trying to repair the one hole in his ship. I seriously doubt a sloop rode up on you, fired, and then just sat there for an entire 5 minutes while your crew laid into him.

While I have seen ships get bugged in some unusual ways (spawning upside-down, yet fully operational, leaping out of the water a good 20 feet, etc), I have a VERY hard time believing that your perfectly working boat just so happened to de-spawn in the middle of a battle. If you were in combat long enough to run out of cannonballs, you probably ran out of planks as well. Or you were all so focused on shooting the sloop, nobody bothered to repair when it fired back.

@Th3-Ch4dw1n Turn up your controller sensitivity. I play on Xbox. Never once have I felt as though I'm at a disadvantage to pc SoT players. Never once have I even noticed a difference between xbox players and pc players, except when they use text chat.

  • @deliciouspack Text chat to OP plz nerf. lol

  • @deliciouspack I don’t think you actually read what was said did you.

  • @SquirrelSquatch I have seen ships despawn at very bad times in my games as well. I've found that's it's typically because some part of the ship has run aground(even if it's a little sand under the water) and eventually the game thinks it may be stuck so it removes it. We had a crew working on a skeleton forts with a shallow bay. Ran our galleon into the bay and about 10 minutes later our ship despawn leaving us with just the clothes on our backs as two sloops approached.

  • It's just lag bro.
I've had fights where a dude has shot me at least 4 times with a blunderbuss and I've gone ahead and instakilled him.
Took little to no damage from their hits.

And I've had the opposite happen.

Sometimes in the middle of a sword fight my ping will shoot up to 800 and I'll become invincible, or the opposite will happen, where I slash up an unsuspecting ship pilot, who is still on the wheel, at least 6 times (2 full combos) only for them to jump off the wheel, hop around at lightning speed and one shot me.

It's just lag from the rubbish servers.

  • We haven't looked at Ping delay but have experienced similar issues.

For wider appeal and to encourage more players I think that:-

Rar should retain the combined PvPvE server scheme but grade the servers by combined SoT crew PvP history to segregate crews as they spawn into the game based on their PvP ranking.

  • @th3-ch4dw1n
"I play pc my I have a decent rigg but it’s not really set up for sea of thieves ( I need more ram and graphics card)"

    lol
if your rig can't run SoT it's not a decent rig by any standard, especially if one of your bottlenecks is ram of all things

You and OP just got outplayed because you were not aware of your surroundings or had bad tactics.

  • @stratcat51
Some sort of ranking would be very nice.
Tired of fighting crews randomly assembled of newbies. The seas have become empty and nobody is a threat anymore.

  • @nebenkuh Thankyou for your comment. Well we wouldn't be much of a battle for you as we've been toasted pretty much everytime unless we've managed to evade attack. General battles with skellies etc have assisted learning but aren't a comparison with PvP.

I just think that such a change would give more fun for those that are more PvP strong and a chance for those less strong or new players to build up to whatever level they can achieve. If the crew scoring was a weighted average then 'legends' that came back to play with newer players would not completely over power the crews ranking and server deployment. Its just a idea that I would like to think helped everyone.

  • @nebenkuh wow that was an old as hell post you replied too lol

  • Sounds like you came across some hackers or some technical glitch. I think at the moment the PvP is the only thing Rare got right(except for that beautiful water). I only have a few complaints about PvP. I believe a sword dash should nearly kill someone(take away 4/5 of their health) considering the stamina drain and charge time. Also the Banana spammers are incredibly annoying but there’s nothing that can be done about that besides making health regen slower(would be more annoying than the problem). You get health regen spammers in every game so I’m not concerned about that. I would like some more weapons to use because Pirates did actually use more than most people realize. I would like some more weapons to use. Pirates had fuse bombs and other melee weapons such as boarding axes that could easily be implemented. I also would like an ammunition crate that can be carried around. Good job on the PvP Rare and sorry about the cheats.
