Merchant Alliance quests are the most touchy in the game right now, requiring the highest amount of conditions to be met and the most maintenance to preform. They have a location requirement for delivery, unique tools, pigs have to be given resources, and there is a time limit.
With this in mind, Jenn and I were trying to deliver five hungry, fussy pigs to Dagger Tooth Outpost in our sloop, but a galleon was parked there for nearly half an hour. Obviously, if we wanted to, we could have engaged the galleon, or tried to sneak by it, but these pigs need constant upkeep and it's just the two of us against possibly four other players parked right next to the Merchant Alliance NPC.
The obvious answer was to wait them out, otherwise we'd engaged and lost, we'd have to respawn, collect five crates, find an island, track down five additional pigs of specific breed, come back to the same outpost and hope they weren't still there. Hoping all the while that time would not expire.
So in the end, we waited them out.
For roughly 30 min we did nothing in Sea of Thieves, a game we are in love with, and it was very frustrating. I can understand that assembling a crew can take time and then loading the boat takes time, but because of the delivery location requirement for Merchant Alliance, this stopped the game dead in its tracks.
Perhaps some kind of generous time limit can be imposed for docking at an outpost, or the drop off points could be different NPCs not at outposts, or perhaps not the existing merchant NPCs that are on the docks that are most commonly used by boats to dock, but an NPC shipping receiver positioned inside the islands like Gold Hoarders and Order of Souls are.
Love the game,
