Same four Skeleton forts always repeated.

  • Has anyone done a skeleton fort that wasn't on Sharkfin camp, Keel haul fort, skull keep, or Crow's nest fortress? just curious seems like I've done over 20- 30 of them by now and it always seems to be on one of the four listed above.... just wanted to know if anyone else had seen or done one on some of the other forts.

  • @crazy-haze-guy The other forts i'm going to guess are going to be used for something else later on ;)

  • Yeah skull forts were 'last minute' judging by their late introduction. The other forts seem more complex so I don't think they had time.

  • I think its just 3, not sure skull keep is active :(! personally haven't seen it pop up anyway.

  • lol, they'll be 'future content' even though they've been there since launch unused.

  • @gloog my guess would be, they weren't last minute additions, but they either had different plans for other forts, or just couldn't make the others work in the way they intended. (probably very different difficulty based on their layout)

  • Skull keep is not one of them.

Currently, only Shark Fin Camp, Keel Haul Fort, and Crows’ Nest Fortress activate.

  • I believe they’ll add them with the new ship or per dlc

  • I don't see how activating the other forts would be "DLC" in the way of "new content". It's virtually the same thing, just more of them. I'm hoping they replace some of the other unused forts for some new event.

Rare, have plans? r******o Oh, that's rich. XD

  • @korpus-draige Who's to say it'll be a skull fort?

Well the actual island fort would be the same, just a reskin for something else. I feel that they need to completely remove some of them an design something new to put there for a new event.

My guess is you didn't see the roadmap.

Or the tease before launch about what the original May update was going to be.

  • never ever seen any skullfort at skull keep , its only Sharkfin , Kheel haul and crows nest as far as iam concerns ... so i dont know where in the world you ever saw an active skullfort at skull keep

  • @blam320 You can buy roadmaps to any country in the world but that doesn't mean that you will travel them.

I have watched all of their videos and they haven't divulged anything substantial. Oh except for pets. Whatever the topic start off as, it all comes back to pets.
    They should be in politics.

Look at the first two videos since launch. The list of known errors and priorities are the same in both videos only reshuffled because having consistent scars on your game character is somehow more important than server issues where many customers couldn't connect to play the game they paid for.

    It's like they suffer ADHD.
It's take a team of 100 to 200 staff almost two months to move the bell on the sloop from the side of the mast to the front of it. Even though it was suggested by the community during the alpha testing a year earlier.

But anyway, this is off topic. Sorry to the original poster.

  • @admiral-rrrsole

    You forgot :
Trying to add a death toll that noone wanted.
Adding in a new ship skin for legends because they didn't think people would grind to the literal only bit of end game.
Oh and my personal favourite, they changed the colours on the skellies hats to indicate their difficulty.
Actual content? Who would want such nonsense.

  • @laughsmaniacaly You're right. My bad.

  • For some reason, I almost always get Shark Fin.

No idea why. I tend to like that area of the map more.
It is rockier so it doesn't feel as flat and dead as the rest of the world. Sort of makes sailing and combat slightly more interesting. Maybe because I tend to haunt that region. Who knows?

  • @aristonsparta yeah sorry wasn’t sure or not about that one.

  • @crazy-haze-guy skull keep isn't active, just 3 are active

The first major update is going to be released next week. They confirmed that in one of the most recent videos. Last week's patch with private crews and a fix to PCs crashing was pushed to this week, and with it will come a teaser for Hungering Deep.

  • I'm pretty sure sloops werent in the technical alpha a year ago....but that's just me.

  • Oh and my personal favourite, they changed the colours on the skellies hats to indicate their difficulty.

There are people that will believe anything. The colors have nothing to do with their difficulty.

The color has something to do with their difficulty? Didn't notice that.

They don't, the only change was that when spawned they could spawn with different colors, now they spawn with the same color to indicate that they are in the same "crew".

  • @threezool Just as I thought, thanks for confirmation.

Server stability was the the main focus the first few weeks and just because you know about a problem it is not the same as knowing the reason behind that issue or that it is a easy fix.

This just show how little you know about software development, its almost becoming a pest on these forums how certain people know how RARE work and have no basic knowledge at all about software development.

During a Alpha the game is still not in its final state with the content that is laid out for a release version and content will be added until it is. Once all main features are added it goes in to Beta to fine tune the content and iron out issues and bugs. The focus for the teams is not to do minor stuff like moving a bell when work on making the game stable is a priority.

Then after release the teams are monitoring the health of the servers and game to see if any issues arise when its under full load from the player base. And that is exactly what they also informed us during the first few weeks with the updates and once that was under control they could then change focus on content and "quality of life" for the players.

It should almost be mandatory for gamers to take a few programming classes before being allowed to comment on how game studios do their work. -.-

  • @crimsonraziel
Yep, looks like colour based scaling, not sure on the actual tier difference but noticed some colours take more damage than others, i think purple takes more than blue but would need to do some research to find out exactly how much more between colours.

  • @laughsmaniacaly

Damage difference is only based on the level of the voyage. The color is meaningless.

  • @threezool I'm sorry that I have a hit a nerve with you.
For the record I am a retired programmer. By your closing statement can we assume that you have some programming experience?
If you honestly believe that 100 - 200 employees can justify their hours / pay for the update about six weeks after launch with so little to show for it then I don't know what to say. Except maybe,.... How many Rare employees does it take to change a light bulb?

As for creating a game such as SoT or almost anything today using a game engine that is already developed by another party basically comes down to the three "M"s.

    Maps, Models and Menus.

In fact anyone can download game templates using the U4 engine from the epic games website. Install the launcher and there are dozens of U4 engine game templates to work with in several genres.

The only "programming" required in any of those three "M"s are menus and what have Rare done? Made a very basic menu and even then two menu items are the same.
Why have "Leave Game" do the same function as "Quit to Desktop"? The Only difference here is the grey screen.

What if you are placed in a random crew who don't have mics, don't share the same mindset or they may even insta-brig you? So you leave the game in hope to find a more compatible crew.
Okay, let's count coins again , open ledger, report for duty, blah blah blah, in fact let's just do it all from scratch even though we have just done that two minutes ago. This is bound to cause unwarranted stress to their servers. A blind man on a galloping horse can see that.
In this instance, the player has already been loaded, we should only be looking for a vacant slot on a server and loading a section of the map.

Take a look at the ferry / re-spawn routine. Why load you into the ferry, have you wait for the door to open then start loading the map area you were just moments ago killed in? This is bound to cause differences between hardware dependent re-spawn times.
It would be better to start the reload (if at all required) as soon as you are on the ferry and subtract that time from the over-all (dev desired) time between dying and spawning. Everyone would have the same spawn time regardless of their hardware specs (high-end PC, console and low-end PC). It would eliminate both, different spawn times and spawn killings.
Why is your character visible to other players the whole time you are at a black screen? Do away with it.

As for their priorities from server access being the #1 focal point on release to being #3 on their priority list six days later says that it was still an issue but they cared less about it.
If it was resolved it wouldn't have been still listed. So much for "quality of life" of those who still couldn't access the servers.

I've also made game maps (and cars) as a hobby for decades. I'm not saying that I am perfect but these are supposed to professionals with decades of experience.
Look at how ships and large boulders can be shot through by skeletons. Why weren't they clipped at the same time they're made?
Since release; I have fallen through maps ending up behind the cliff face. I have fallen in between the exterior and interior walls of a galleon when I was outside of the captain's quarters. I have also dropped chests between the walls of the galleon's hull. Not to mention items (chests, crates and coops) that fall through the walls of a ship. Everything should have been "clipped" when it was made.

But I guess you don't see any of it through rose coloured glasses.
This all started as a little, one line "tongue in cheek" or "smug" reply and it's derailed the thread twice.

Sorry once again to the thread starter for this going off topic.

Fair winds and happy sailing to all. :o)
