@ollieoxenfree Go lodge a complaint to them via their support ticket. That's the only way you will have your complaint looked at.
How exactly, are we being “Surprised and Delighted?”
@sshteeve Right. But I imagine (and we all imagine, ultimately, because we don't know, which is part of this fundamental problem) that the pets have been pushed back to work on things like private crews.
Also, they probably realised that people like me who would have happily considered paid-for pets a decent update were in the minority to those who wanted new sails.
I'd like to also make clear that I'm not sad at their approach - I'm genuinely impressed. I'm sad that they're not being cheered for it, and instead being burned. This could be so easily avoided by more conversational and open communication with the core community. "Hey, sorry, we know we said private crews, but it's not quite ready". Rather then "No patch today. Enjoy!".

This.
@redeyesith But this is not a mistake on their part, software development almost always have delays and their intent could have been to today to release a update but it got halted due to some issue and then communicated that.
You assume that they had this knowledge for days and kept us in the dark when you actually have no idea what goes on behind the doors. Why do you assume the worst instead of waiting for the dev update video and see what they have to say?

Clearer and more timely communication once the issue is identified eliminates assumption, hence the point of this post.
@ollieoxenfree They posted it on Discord and then later Twitter. Just look at their official channels to get updated on whats going on.

You're going in circles now, I've already explained why it clearly appears that way (them having to reschedule once already this week). They are also using Agile Development, which means if there was an issue with something, that alone should be able to be tossed aside and not the whole patch (yet we have no patch).
@threezool I follow SoT on all media outlets and I still state that the communication was too little and too late.
@phillyreid said in How exactly, are we being “Surprised and Delighted?”:
@gloog Its just really irritating when you have the backseat players that when new features and improvements are implemented they stay silent. But as soon as the dev eam communicate something all the backseat players push there way to the front to moan and groan.
Idk what you mean by this exactly but private crews should have been in for launch and were brought up a long time ago. I guess when they communicate something we just move on to the next thing on the list of many things this game needs. Not for any reason other than the improvement of a game we really love the concept of and want to love the implementation of that concept, which is partially there but lacking depth in content.
If you meant something in the first place other than what my reply means then my bad.
Or you could adopt the more rational approach and understand that Rare prides quality over rushed and broken updates?
I'd much rather wait longer for any update that is of good quality than have something that introduces bugs and issues with the game.
Learn to suppress your self entitlement. You've not even given them chance to upload today's Developer update before submitting passive aggressive posts.
@redeyesith That is not how agile development work.
Agile development is that you build small updates and push it but instead of gathering them for weeks and then do a push. This also enables them to change what needs to be fixed on a smaller lead-time than a big update that has to be planed and then put together.
But still those smaller updates still include several updates to the game that has to go in and if one of those has a issue the entire update might have to be pushed back. They are probably doing weekly sprints and if any one of those tickets gets pushed back then that might push back the entire sprint due to dependencies.
Again i work as a software developer and this happens all the time and is why developers ALWAYS when giving a date it is more a "We hope so but we don't know for sure" due to unknown issues popping up.

Self-entitlement? Passive aggressive? Save your armchair psychology for another post. I’m asking Rare to step up and be more than what we currently expect from the gaming industry.
This post comes after months and months of following this game and its development. I’m invested, and I have a voice.
This post also comes after seeing dev content get recycled the last two weeks (I.e. posting about solo players for two fridays in a row).

Learn to read! The issue is not that there is no patch but it was communicated last minute when they most likely knew on Tuesday that it wasn't going to go live. All we want is better communication, to manage expectations.
@ollieoxenfree They have steeped up more than what 95% of developer studios in regards to communicating with their community. Requiring more from a studio that already are the best at the moment at communicating with their community is being entitled.
@ollieoxenfree No armchair psychology is needed here to see that you clearly feel misled by today's absent update.
I'm simply stating that you need to adopt a more rational and grown up way of thinking.
I've been heavily involved with this game since it's first announcement too. However, I understand that not everything is always plain sailing. Especially when you have a developer team as small as the one at Rare. They know that the player base will be disappointed so moaning about it further helps nobody.
@aa-yeti How to you know that they knew?
For all we know they ran in to a issue, hoped to have it fixed and pushed it back but still it did not make it in time and so they had to do a maintenance before it was ready. So when they knew it was not going to happen they started to post it to the community.
@aa-yeti I can read perfectly well, thank you. Hence my response that you've so quickly quoted.
Do you have anything meaningful to add to this discussion?
@ollieoxenfree I am surprised AND delighted because I play the game on a healthy 5-8 hours a week.
Communication is great from the devs on what they are fixing, developing and planning.
They do not spoil stuff which is great.@porkin5 said in How exactly, are we being “Surprised and Delighted?”:

One can be rational and still be bothered. Being complacent is not necessarily “grown up way of thinking.” And you will never win over opponents by way of insults.
“Moaning” as you call it is brining attention to an unpleasant situation. One could call it a complaint, yes, and all feedback to Rare, regardless of what YOU think of it helps everyone. There are people who were thinking the same thing but posted nothing, go pat them on the back for their “grown up” silence...
@ollieoxenfree Nobody is being complacent. You're just coming across as though you feel entitled to this update. As though it's a pre-ordered, paid-for, DLC that you were promised when the game was announced. Which it very obviously isn't.
Making repetitive complaints about a bad situation that they're already aware of is both pointless and unnecessary. That's called moaning.
We're all disappointed. You've just got to learn to wait patiently like the rest of us.
@phillyreid said in How exactly, are we being “Surprised and Delighted?”:
@redeyesith The Hungering Deep is due out this month. With this will come a load more content.
L**O. "...will come a load more content."
SMH.
as if you or any of us have any idea.@porkin5 said in How exactly, are we being “Surprised and Delighted?”:

Like you’re “moaning” on this thread about being patient? Again, save your sanctimonious attitude and let people feel their feels. Why don’t you express some of that grown up patience and walk away from this thread?
@ollieoxenfree They said there would be the hungering deeps patch in May they never said when in May. We also know their structure for future patches, and that this patch will be medium sized, with future large patches having more due to the devs having more time. Give them a chance. Rare are very good at communicating.... perhaps they ought to add server patch info to a forum post which is updated, or FB, but in general they are very good.
@slam-sumn3r They said these will start after hungering deep. They want to get hungering deep finished and out first, then they weeklys start.
@a-cranky-eskimo said in How exactly, are we being “Surprised and Delighted?”:
I just hope when the hungering deep patch eventually rolls out that it has some content that is new and unique and not just a fetch quest but some fundamentally new addition to the world. Fishing would be nice.
I'm not sure fishing is part of the pirate experience. 0_0 /s
@ollieoxenfree Nah I'm not moaning because I don't particularly care how you feel. I'm simply telling you to grow up, get a grip and stop s*** posting.

IMO rare is terrible @ communicating, they tend to use every social media platform to release their dribble except for their OFFICIAL SoT Forums.
@angrycoconut16 lol, I agree. It's something the studio head Craig said in one of their update videos.
