Notify crew when another player joins it

  • Can we get some info when a player joins or leaves the crew?
I'm old and my heart can't handle random people running around my ship out of a sudden :)

    Compiled ideas from this thread:

    • Add a visual and audible notification when a new player joins a crew.
    • Add a different visual and audible notification when a new player leaves a crew.
    • Audio notifications should only be audible by the crew, not its surroundings.
    • RP-wise these could be the bosun whistle sounds for Captain on Ship and Captain off ship
    • Show active crew members in the top left corner with name, rank and healthbar (not the favourite of quite some people)

  • Yes, this really should be added. Yesterday I told a random who joined to f off because we were about to be boarded at an outpost and I thought the player boarding us offered to help us sell our loot. XD

  • @lefaux2 Some notification would indeed be nice and helpful.

  • Plz add tips

  • Not only for joining players, for leaving players too!

  • @xthe-100-eyes

    This@tips

  • Definitely for this!
People come and go from galleons too often depending on the quest active at that time, the direction the ship is travelling (i.e. is it to/away from a fort?) so to know when people come and go for me is a must!

  • @lefaux2 Should be visible on the screen, like top left corner

    lefaux2 - hp bar
    kaetten - hp bar
    random - hp bar

uhhhh, THAT's clever. Thanks for improving my thought :)

    umm... yeah... obviously.
Will put this into the original post. Thanks :)

  • Yea, this is very much a needed thing.

  • Yep, it would be nice, but I'm thinking they don't want the game to be too meta. I would also like the gold value next to the item turned it rather than just guessing which value goes with which item.

  • Hi,

would actually be nice to get a notice. I was exploring the mermaid island, very casually and when i returned to my ship an enemy pirate had boarded IT! AAAh panic, BANG BANG......of wait.......hes my new crewmate.....sorry about that.

  • Bosuns whistle should sound

Like the whole thing except for this part, it’s a bit game breaking

  • @aliasmask you don’t have to guess, it is on the same order the messages come up, and you can basically tell by the value

  • @kaetten don’t really like this part, kind of game breaking

  • @lefaux2 Finally, a constructive idea.

Please clarify how this would be "game breaking"

I could imagine a few issues, but the only real problem I see is that a given crew might (depending on their d*******g-level) decide to not play with lower level players.

  • I'm upvoting this one! Defo a good idea!

That much salt should stay in the sea. As far as LVL goes I don't mind playing with those lower then me. Even if they just bought the game and were s lvl 1 greenhorn I would gladly take them onboard and show them the ropes. It is sad to see people jump ship with this game due to others being salty

  • I love the idea of a brief, quiet bosun whistle along with the name of the incoming/outgoing crewman flashing at the top right. A different whistle for incoming and outgoing.

Must be quiet though. Hate for it to ruin a stealth mission.

    added...

  • To be clear, I'm against leaving the names and health up in the corner all the time. We can hit select and check our crew for that. Just a quick notification and then gone again, like when you hand in treasure.

  • I 100% agree with a notification popping up on entering new players from matchmaking. My ships "p**p deck" is called that for a reason, when I turn around in a 360 with my spyglass and come across a mustache zoomed in so close I can see the hairs, I p**p my pants.

  • I don't think they are going to add player names and health bars in the corner. They want minimalist UI and that would clash with their style.

That being said, and audible cue and visible notification for crew changes should definitely be a thing. I think they can stick with the current style. Play a sound (like when a crew mate digs up a chest or catches an animal) and display a banner on the bottom (like when a crew mate digs up a chest or catches an animal).

I would also like a chat/event log so that when you press T (on PC) and the chat box pops up, you can scroll up and down through messages. It would also be useful if we could see who killed us, who we killed, who our allies killed, who killed our allies, what we have sold and for how much, etc. This way the log is not visible when you are playing but is there to reference if you need it.

I never said anything about rank.

Player and healthbar should be seen.
So you know if - a crewmember dies
    - a crewmember join
    - a crewmember quit

  • @kaetten it should just notify you, they can tell you when they’re dead,

  • @pliskon not as in OP but game breaking as in it would ruin the whole point of communication and collaboration, which is like 93.6% of Sea of Thieves. Plus it kind of ruins the look and feel of the game, it doesn’t even have a crosshair.

    The sniper rifle does... ;-)
But yeah, I get what you mean.

  • @lefaux2 kind of, but that’s what I mean it’s just a crack in the screen, something that makes sense in the real world
