Rare, I knew you wouldn't let me down!

  • Thank you rare for listening to the community at large! (Obviously you won't make everyone happy) literally the first comment on twitter is someone complaining on the road map. I don't care though. You guys have literally got me so excited.

Brb changing undies.. I swabbed my p**p deck.

  • Me too man, me too - this is exactly what was needed, finally.

  • I thought it looked good. Didn't expect a third ship and entire 4th area of the map.

    you... didn't?

Can I just complain one thing, they said in the video, that they wanted to add small things in instead of putting them in patch notes: please don't.

patch notes are the nutritional values on the side of the bottle, I want to know what the 1.2gb of stuff i'm downloading is, most people will probably ignore it and be amazed when they walk into the new things, that's great, but we need thorough patch notes.

  • @sir-rhavi I have to disagree. If it's things like damage buffs or nerfs, then yes those should be noted but other things could be a surprise.

For example. I was playing with a buddy sailing through a storm. We were talking about an idea I had seen posted of having a ghost ship spawn in the middle of a storm. This would be an AMAZING thing to discover and be surprised with. If they announced it, everyone would just head straight to a storm as soon as they log in.

then you and your buddy are the ones who should stay away from reading the patch notes, quite simple really.
I'm not asking them to put it in the front page, tweet about it and make a video, i just want true patch notes, not "here's the big things we put in, and another 5 you'll have to discover!"
I don't want to be treated like a kid during easter

As long as it gets some of the more strident and impatient out there to pipe down.. I am all for it too.

  • @sir-rhavi Where's your sense of adventure and discovery?

Like I said I would like to be notified of buffs/nerfs and things like value adjustments so I will continue to read patch notes.

Much like a new movie coming out. I'm gonna look at casting. I'm not gonna read the script.

  • @tedakin True. I thought that an extra shop model would be too labor intensive to produce. I think it will be tied to the Captaincy update they have been talking about.

  • @tedakin The question is, are we getting a new sea biome, or just a few new islands here and there. If it's the former it's going to be awesome! Not sure how they will manage to add large chucks to the world map without increasing player load times but I'm very excited for a bigger map.

  • @im-axis-rahl I completely agree - imagine how cool it would be to come across something you didn't know about. The nature of the community for this game means that anything that's announced will be unwrapped, played with, broken and thrown away before it's even been put into the game. One of the big things missing from the game at present is that ability to discover something unexpected, so I think it's a great idea.

  • @moomintroll Honestly the "mystery" has been missing from games (and most other media) for a long time now. These days, between data mining, extended trailers and day one players sharing things online; we know everything about a game or movie before we even get our hands on it.

I mean, it's really easy on the internet to make a web-page that states the obvious, important things on the top, then fine script with all changes at the bottom, kinda like how every single other game does patch notes, and you can skim the top part and ignore the rest, kinda like what you're doing with your own opinions, you know, only caring about yours and ignoring everyone else's even if it would mean nothing to you at all if they were implemented.

there are kids like you, who like to discover the things as you go along, and there are people like me, who create wikis, and theories, and min-max everything, we can coexist, like every other game.

  • @im-axis-rahl Yep, and it's a real shame. In fact it's undoubtedly what feeds all the negativity online about literally everything.

  • @sir-rhavi Kids like me lol I'm 33, boy. I never said other's opinion don't matter. I simply stated mine. If you need to min/max in SoT you need a life, buddy.

You can still write your wikis and pretend you're contributing to a community by discovering things on your own and not just copy/pasting patch notes. What is the point of a wiki if I can get all the info I need from the official website?

  • @sir-rhavi Also, I'm not sure what put you into attack mode. But I'm not getting into it any further.

  • @sir-rhavi I would say the patch notes are pretty thorough. They definitely already stated they would be working on bugs and performance for all of April. Which I am totally fine with. I find a better and smoother experience each time I log in after one of the maintenance's or i download a patch.

  • @sir-rhavi Yeah I am like you in that aspect I really enjoy knowing exactly what is going to be coming. Just be patient because I know that people like you work for rare as well! Microsoft is the one who decides when and where they release the content they are making.(they are the MONEY)

the fact that i found like 5 changes on the first day that wern't noted in the patch notes makes it pretty clear that they weren't thorough.

fixes and bugs and performance optimizations can be easly typed out as "further optimizations" on some patch notes, but... chest of thousand grogs now works to refill tankard wasn't there, neither was the breath sound (very important in pvp change by the way) so...
