I love games that give me a sharp pointy object to shove into people. I love when games give me the option to throw it at people. Love it more when it kills someone.
Jabs and stabs aside, when the content roadmap out now, and much hype coursing through my veins...this brings something I feel is lacking in the weapon department, and also an excuse so I can brag about nailing a guy from 50 ft away with a single throwing knife and yell OOOOH! Nailed it.
Perfect Dark, a fps made by Rare years ago, back on the N64, had a weapon called the combat knife. You could go slashy slash and cut people down, or use the alt fire option, throw the blade up and grab it by the tip of the blade and throw it.
I think having throwing knives would be pretty cool, with a short throw distance, cant use the ammo box to refill, instead encouraging players to make sure not to throw their knives into the ocean all willy nilly, doing a little less damage than a flintlock like...a third or even a fourth, but you can throw them faster than you can reload. and having only 3-4 unlike the whole 5 shots in most guns.
This could replace my cutlass in a heartbeat because as a avid madman, running around cod with a ballistic knife and throwing axes, or blacklight retribution using throwing knives and exploding tomahawks, and so on, the list goes, i just like throwing knives, k? I really like them.
Just hope Rare lets me have my throwing knives in a up coming content release.
Also think about the cool skins for the knives there could be.
Lets talk about throwing knives.
I still have a video clip from Destiny 1 in which I threw a grenade into the distance, beyond reason, only to see it drop slowly downward onto the head of a cabal grunt sticking there for couple seconds and then detonate killing both the cabal and the hive zealot. Perfect throw.
Give me a knife I can try to repeat this with in this game and I'm a happy guy.
@arch-fable the stupid thing of destiny one was the hunter golden gun class, having 2 knives that instantly refresh upon headshot kills with throwing knives was stupidly good in Pvp and PvE
But nailing anyone from any distance with a throwable that sticks is always super satisfying@onyx-wartooth YESS! I WANT THROWING KNIVES TOO!! I think they should be refillable though personally from an ammo box.. why not, they're another ranged weapon, and I think 5 knives is fine, OR have a 3rd weapon slot, and have these in there as a 'disposable' weapon... (and you can equip your cutlass/gun after you have thrown them all), although personally I like the idea of these being a ranged weapon :)
I like the idea of faster throwing though! All the weapons need to be unique and this could be how the knives are unique :)
@onyx-wartooth Goldeneye had throwing knives as well. I would like to see this added. Limit of 1 knife per pirate (obviously unlimited refills from ammo crates)
@angrycoconut16 Instead of "reloading" them, just where ever you throw them, lets say...at a wall. you can pick it right back up. I want it likt how you can attack and block with the cutlass, do little jabs and slashs, but also be able to throw them, be less powerful than say the cutlass because its a small piece of metal, but just because its small doesn't mean you cant nail a guy from a longer distance.
@dutchdeadschot I didn't play much of goldeneye as a kid. More played PD because it was a more of a way to get my family together years ago. 1 knife would be a bit extreme imo, but still just adding them be nice. I would like to be able to hit some wood and see it stick out from the wood and be able to pick it back up rather than camp buy a ammo box.
@hot-juicy-pie I didn't think about that, that does bring a good point to the table. Just more stealth in general would be a nice addition.
@onyx-wartooth my one knife idea was like knife would always be “equipped” like you still have your 2 weapons but hitting LB will always release throwing knife.
While Perfect Dark is one of my favorite games from N64, the Rare that made Sea of Thieves is not the same Rare that made all the games that won our love in the 90s.
Microsoft bought that Rare, gutted it and filled it with new staff. Hence why they only made Kinect games for a while.
The remnants of what was Rare before the purge came together to form Playtonic Games to make Yooka-Laylee. Which tanked.
I don't think we'll ever get another title from Rare equal to the ones they made in the past.
Sea of Thieves is alright though.
@subaqueousreach Yooka-laylee tanked? oh no...my heart...but yea, we wont get another luxurious gem like we did in the 90's nuts and bolts...PD zero etc we've seen some stanky games, but this post isnt about games, its about my love for throwing knives.
Even though I prefer banjo kazooie games over perfect dark..still...some easter eggs and such wouldn't hurt@lord-sphinktus Anything like this is only molded and crafted by a community's feedback. I hope to be able to just throw knives at people.
@galactic-geek I'd like to see both tbh, but I like knives more, there was a game called Ironsights I was playing that had both throwing knives and axes, the axes were slower to throw but flew further. Eitherway a thrown bladed weapon in general be cool.
@galactic-geek Would the harpoon be more melee or ranged based? Would it be able to block or go far under water if thrown from above water? These questions have reasons behind them.
But yes, Harpoons be fun, but I think they would have more of a spot if fishing was added.Oh no worries I whole heartedly agree that throwing knives should be in the game. I was just saying (or implying I guess) not to expect this Rare to pull from previous title experiences, since they weren't technically their titles.
I also think the hand mortar should be in the game. It's basically a handheld deck cannon used as early as the 1500s and pirates were the first to load it with fused grenades, creating the very first personal grenade launcher.
@subaqueousreach Hand mortars? Sounds fun, but whats the point of the mortar if we dont even have Granados yet? We dont have a base idea on what a GL's capabilities would be like range, damage output, so on.
Kudos on what i deem to be a great idea. I for one would like to see the addition of many different weapon types for us Pirates to use.
In addition i'd like to see things like "backstabbing" with any melee weapon: the premise would be if you are behind them you can initiate a sort of execution/backstabbing of said player.
Pistol/Rifle and Blunder: Pistol_whipping/Buttstroke: The premise is simple a close up ranged handle/stock melee hit.@ixxolos I think the whole backstabbing thing wouldn't work for several reasons but the main one I will point out is it will make a massive impact on CQC in favor of PC players because we/they whatever...I dont play favorites, will be able to hop behind someone, turn 180 crazy fast, then backstab, sorta like in dark souls, roll behind someone and shove a giant sword in their spine, just good jolly times for all.
With the addition of any kind of melee to any weapon should really have very low damage unless its a melee weapon. To still make any real melee weapon useless rather than replaced by 2 guns. Its a balancing act, I dont want there to be the odd case of the blunderbuss again where all i saw was blunderbuss' and angrily sigh in sadness because i have to give up my flintlock for a blunderbuss just to keep on even playing fields (Happy they nerfed it...one tapping people is not fun for me...)
But yes, new weapons, new melee and ranged, a musket be nice, axes, knives, daggers, grenades, just fill my lil tub of weapons up, fill it up with repeater pistols and the weird jank that looks weird, but is also cool because its a unique weapon.@onyx-wartooth it's annoying to have to keep collecting them :P but yea, this is one way they could be implemented I guess.. though I see nothing wrong with getting more from the ammo box
@angrycoconut16 it could be both ways, ultimately rares choice if they even want to add knives, or even how they will be used. Its atleast better than a eternal chase.
@onyx-wartooth I'm sure they will add additional weapon choices :) Especially melee - that is sorely needed, everyone having a cutlass gets boring :P
The question is.. which ones will they add? :O
@angrycoconut16 calling it now...throwing knives. actually, its been datamined i believe they'll be adding axes, and some other weapons, dont quote me, just reddit posts and talk. Ill see if I can find that post and drop the link in this.
@angrycoconut16 google is amazing, lets just say that.https://wccftech.com/sea-of-thieves-beta-datamining-kraken/
enjoy.
