I think chasing after a ship take too long. Honestly we take like 20/30 min or more just to chase after a ship that have the same speed as us or faster. I mean it fun to have a ship battle with another enemy pirates but sometimes they just run away. And then we have to chase them down for hours. I say what if we have chained cannonballs to shoot at them to slow them down or stop them. I would like a maximum of 5 to keep it fair. I mean we got tons of barrels in our ship to keep a lot of stuff but the reason only 5 for my opinion is to have the pirate make the shot count and not for them to be OP. Like I don’t want them to having to use it all the time over and over. I just want a small moment to catch up to the enemy ship. Would be nice to have chained cannonballs to be some use :D
Ship Chase
I also believe, there must be some other factors what can influence boat speed to make it more interesting, for example water in the boat, the more water the boat receive by rain or cannon holes in the boat and the people don't through out the water, the slower the speed it must be, what actually makes kinda sense.

Or... dont chase for hours and find other prey/ set a better ambush
I think the masts should be able to suffer damage (and be repaired). Like a damaged mast can't be turned and a fully broken mast loses all wind power, until repaired. This could allow for pursuing ships that get close enough to damage the ship they're chasing enough to prevent or impede escape (escape is pretty easy as is). Also perhaps give a boarding party the ability to cut the riggings of sails that the ship's crew would have to grab and refit.
@rattlyfob and is your time precious?
Or do you not appreciate yourself that much?the deal is, the guys chasing you dont know what you have, but you seem to think that whatever you have is worth running for. So they want it more.
but your time should be worth fighting for.....
Heres the deal. You ran.. you decided, whatever it is you have, is worh running to keep (not fighting for, running for)
and we see that and say, hey, he must have something good. better go after. You set the precedent here.
Now, heres the thing, your time should be precious, worth fighting for... so fight.
Otherwise, all we have to go on is.. they must have a reason to run.
@unknownghosttx Use and manage the wind better.
It's going to be rare that you can run full sail in a straight line to an outpost/edge of the map. Push them off the wind when they have to sail around an obstacle and then tack to catch up. If they match your sailing skill, well then they did a good job and you shouldn't catch them.

Personally, i run to bait them and once thet line up I drop an explosive barrel and myself. I board them, drop the anchor, kill the crew and catch the mermaid. Works on galleons and sloops.
maybe this will help get rid of all the PVPers blood l**t

I dont actually mind pvp because most of the time they arent that good
Yeah usually because they are trying to complete a voyage.
I have been playing since launch and have yet to run into anyone who chased me/sunk my ship who stuck around to try and get any of the loot on board. Would welcome it if that was the intention.
But sadly its not.. just the pleasure of sinking a boat.. and delaying the progress of another

Read your post, not a fan of this idea as it seema to go against the intended gameplay.

"Get some rope, fix the rigs"
"Where's the f[mod would edit] rope"
"Som of a sea dog what happened to all our rope?!"
Stow away below deck: "Dude, guys, I took thier rope"Love it thumbs up

@rattlyfob how?
I do not understand how, having the ability to skirmish with friends, will take away from Gameplay.... It was thought out to avoid changing the existing gameplay.... Thats what event queues do.
Because fighting for the sake of fighting or getting all of your friends together on multiple ships is not the intended gameplay at this moment. The advantage over solo players becomes far too great when two independant teams come at you.
