GJ Rare - your inaction on the toxicity of the player base just cost you 2 more customers

  • The rating is because there are guns and depicted violence, not because you run the risk of being called racial slurs or might hear someone propose paedophelia in chat. If it was the latter, every game would be M. Rating systems mean nothing.

Also, the bigger issue and complaint here is that a ticket was opened with rare about this so they could deal with these people, and instead they sent some canned pvp response and did nothing to clean up their community, even with video proof. That's on rare. And it's entirely in line with the spineless, limp approach they've taken to everything else so far ("getting griefed? Scuttle your ship and switch servers!") There's no defending their lack of action and not banning these worthless excuses for humans. Period. You people defending rare or making this about a kid playing a game that's very tame except for the subhumans that infest it are disgusting.

  • @poppinfresh0

I wouldn't play any online game with a 5 year old. Online games aren't included in the ESRB specifically for that reason. I don't anticipate you winning any good parenting awards regardless of your good intentions.

What you can do in the future though if you're going to expose your young child to the online community is update your privacy settings via your Microsoft account. You can change it so that you can only hear people in your actual party within the X-Box App. You will never be forced to hear anyone in-game ever again.

I use this feature when I play FIFA and few other online games. Some people are just sore losers with little to no values and will attack you verbally just playing well and/or winning.

  • @poppinfresh0 First - it's 12+ game.

Second - you can mute all teammates.

Third - You are useless part of a team, if you only want to catch chickens, if you will play on my galeon, you will sit it prison, for useless.

Realy we have one today, jump away from the ship with skull, come back without skull, try to sail without us from island with mission. Well it's his fault.

  • @poppinfresh0 Fix yourself! Game be PG12 for a reason. SO if your 5YO wants to have a go at driving the car on daddy's lap and you crash, you gonna blame the car ? the road ?
Good riddance, such irresponsible parents should really think twice before accusing anyone and everything but THEMSELVES to be a bad influence on their own kids.

[mod edited] You let your 5 YO with communication channels ON ? Dude I am surprised you haven't been arrested for exposing your child to KNOWN unhealthy environment yet.

I can go on, your child is in YOUR care. You have a responsibility toward her/him as to what she/he does and the things and people she is exposed to are YOUR duty as a responsible father. That is why you become an adult at 16/18/21 and not at the age of 5 ...
Maybe buying the game wasn't the only mistake you made since you are clearly not parenting properly ...

Shame on you for being a bad parent and shame on you for trying to blame others for your own idiocy!

The people blaming the guy for trying to enjoy the game with his daughter without being verbally assaulted are clueless. The behavior described is out of line no matter her age. If you accept this as a norm, it will never improve.

    First - pegi 12. Not 0+, not 5+, 12+ only...
Second - you can mute the chat.
Third - yeah it's game with open pvp world, about pirate's, and you know, pirates love pvp and trash.
Fourth - cmon, we all insulting someone, just cause we born... It's peoples, all games have toxic players.
Fifth - For real - he is a bad father, who let 5 years old daughter to play on 12+ game, and now she know what mean's [mod edited], lol. Every community is toxic, you can't avoid it. You can't control it. It's impossible in code, it's just impossible, you can't but players for every word they saying.

  • @poppinfresh0 dude,....

im a parent of two daughters and an avid gamer. you should know never to let your kids be in voice chat or be in text chat on online games. RARE doesnt control what online gamers say. no one does. it says so when you play EVERY online game.

you can turn off the voices in the options. my daughters play online games with me and i just turn that off.

as far as the waste of a life people who ruined your day, well im sorry about that and i wouldn't do that to you. that is the online gaming community man. it will never go away and it wont change.

out of all the communities ive been apart of in my life, online gaming is by far the most toxic of them all.

  • @poppinfresh0

I also enjoyed playing the sailing game and catching chickens with my daughter.....sure its a pirate pvp game but it has so much potential to be a family game playing together sailing, bashing skeletons grabbing treasure following treasure maps....bright colours, great scenery. Sadly there is always the potential for pvp toxic behaviour and that's why I stopped playing.

You can certainly mute other crews that's a given but it wont stop a player blasting her with a shotgun.

If there was a 'just for fun' server we'd be back in a flash having a ton of fun

Sad to hear about what happened, people are a lot braver behind a microphone showing off on there voice chat.

  • @poppinfresh0 people like that should be banned from the game..

Playing w/ my 5 year old daughter cause she wanted to sail around a bit. All she wanted to do was collect chickens and pigs. So we did.

Which, of course, meant a 4 person galleon had to show up. They didn't attack at first. I told them there was nothing of value on the ship and I was playing with a young child and all we were doing were catching chickens.

The response? Attacking, of course. Two were clearly using aimbots, but I still took 2 of their crew down and was able to basically avoid damage. Then 3 of them started yelling [mod edited]

This isn't a politically correct household, we're not exactly shielding our daughter from curse words or certain content, but yeah....don't need that in my home. I wrote Microsoft, I got a refund. Congratulations, community, your goal to be populated with nothing but types who got trolled out of Second Life got a little closer.

Fix your community Rare. Or don't. Maybe you can get all the bad seeds and then other games will be safer to play.

So 2 people that should not have been here in the first place are leaving.
a 5 year old and a parent that allows a 5 year old to play.
Please find your child a more appropriate game.

  • Or set your kids account to mute all players. If she hears people shouting abuse then that is on you, its your job to protect her.....

No one is saying their behavior is fully acceptable but... the father was extremely naive to play a game rated for teens and expecting they wouldn't behave like teens.

  • this sort of thing happens in cars and in public too. people do this to each other, every day, probably every minute - all across the planet. don't play online games with a 5 year old is probably the best advice anyone can give you. I would have attacked them if they started getting near us. Ya know, showed junior how b****s dad is. Why'd you beg them for mercy in a pirate game?? I'm surprised you got all the way to adulthood before encountering people like this. Blame Rare if that makes you feel better but they aren't the ones who insulted you.

Save a replay, upload it to youtube. Send the replay into Rare. If you did that I bet they would take action. You need to step up not shrink away.

  • The game is so great... but the community is so disappointing...

@Poppinfresh0 I'm really afraid that so many people profit of their internet anonymity to be such jerks in a game. There's a ton of people acting like bullies when they are cowards in real life. Nobody should ever tell a such thing about a 5 years old, even for laughing. It's the base of what going wrong in everyday's life, pretending that harrasment is just for laughing. Yeah. Ha ha. Geez, people...

But, to be honnest, the game is rated T in ESRB and 12+ in PEGI, so it's your responsability to take care of what you show to your children. "Teen" begins at thir-teen! You should be aware that you're exposed to interactions with players, and that your daughter is very underaged for this game based on these ratings. I won't defend the people who verbally agressed both of you, but as a parent you were terribly wrong if you decided to not pay attention to this warning.

  • @salazar-armando aye, that be My opinion, problem?

  • @Poppinfresh0 Behavior of this type is never alright, and is a violation of the ToS as well as our community rules. Please report the players involved, along with your evidence, so that action can be taken. In the event a support staff member misunderstood your report, please reply back to the ticket you opened and inform them that it is not resolved, and you still need assistance. Additionally, please report them to Xbox Live for action.
