really what they should do is just add a custom wheel where you can enter your own messages

It should work exactly the same, there are keyboards that you can get as a console player that attach right to the controller that have been around for decades now.

I know but that has nothing to do with the quick chat function

Yes It should without issue, hell the console has kb+m support for pubg from one of the results that popped up when I did a quick look up of the chatpad for my previous reply.
