"AFK" Players taking FREE LOOT!!

  • This has to stop..

Many players are putting rubber bands on their controllers, macros on their mice allowing them to go AFK while THEY SLEEP and make the same amount of gold as everyone else not even playing.

Most players will be in the Dead Ship and continuously spin in circles in order to not get kicked off for inactivity. I really hope Microsoft or Sea of Thieves themselves address this issue.

Maybe something where we can VOTE to kick player with majority vote winning just like "the brig"

  • The brig makes it so you dont get loot if you are in it. Just vote them in and cash in, sorted.

no it doesnt. you still get equal loot no matter where you are.

dont worry op, they will add a vote to kick function soon.

  • @lowbei They changed it in a recent update.

  • @knifelife said in "AFK" Players taking FREE LOOT!!:

@lowbei They changed it in a recent update.

incorrect. i tested this just 30minutes ago. furthermore, if they changed it, it would be in the patch notes, which its not.

  • After hearing about AFKing problem with the gameI decided to give it a try and see what could be done by leaving the game running for hours over night.

Attempt #1: I decided to do what most AFKers do and hide myself on the boat, I did an emote such as Sleep or Sit and put an elastic band arround the right analogue stick to keep my character active. I watched for a while.. I noticed that asoon as the team found the character they were quick tonplace it in the Brig. However this allowed my character to not be kicked from the game as far as i could tell but also gave it the rewards the team had gained. There wasnt much profit in doing this 2-5K gold.

Attempt #2: After the research of the previous night in an active conversation on the topic of the problem, I decided that the best next thing i could do was to hide myself on an island and AFK doing the same emote/analogue system found in most games, I climbed a rock slightly offset from an Island where i couldnt be killes by NPCs but also wouldnt be found by active players. The teams which joined the game didnt find the player though if they noticed I was missing they couls of placed me in the brid, problem being you need all of the other teammates to vote. However my character managed to last the night until an XBOX Insider update cut it short at somepoint. I managed to gaim 10-12K for hat night.

    Things ive realised:-

    1. being placed in the brig does NOT stop you getting a cut of rewards.
    2. you can afk safely in too much of the game world without being found.
    3. if you end up with a team of 4, onw if afk, onw has no mic... you will struggle to brig the afker.

Ideas: Allow a Captain option where one of the players in the team is designated Party-Controls. KICK, Mute, etc. However this will be hard to implemen t as it could be abused. Kicking prior to selling of items etc, Though if you allowed it before the activation of a quest then made sure that ingame or not the players named on the quest start interface are rewarded regardless (could also be abused.)

Big problem, hard to find solutions.

  • @p1stolasx

I got someone on the Ferry running in circles last night. I think I'm gonna try to just do 2 man sloops for a while with people that I have friended through the game already. This has just been the worst matchmaking experience I ever had in a game. Mainly because of the AFKers. Can't believe Rare is letting this stuff happen.

  • Here is the thing: the developers have a rose colored spyglass with regards to the community at large playing the game. I submit as proof that the so called "Pirate Code" has ZERO ramifications if you violate it. Not that you have to because you never ever have to read it.
Problem is that we a h**o sapien sapien. That means we are jerks and idiots and idiotic jerks.
When designing a game it would be far better to be using a d**g colored spyglass - always believe the worst in your fellow man.
Nonetheless, philosophically our species clings to expecting the best out of one another. Oh well, die and learn.

  • @knifelife are you sure about that? Have you tested?

  • @lowbei Where is the intel for "vote to kick"?

  • @ianwoneill there should be a majority vote kick option. Just like the brig, problem solved

  • @lewminous yeah it's really sad to see, hopefully they will implement a system I call the "Majority Kick" or "Veto Kick" in which case the same rules of placing a player into a brig are integrated

  • @evbof20187734 I have no clue what I just read..

  • @p1stolasx said in "AFK" Players taking FREE LOOT!!:

@lowbei Where is the intel for "vote to kick"?

they said that more crew management options are coming soon. i have to imagine that this means private parties and kick options.

  • @lowbei Hopefully. 😂

  • Attemept #3: Players have noticed AFKing now, somehow they managed to get my IP i got a message on Facebook saying ? Im asuming details like that are kept hidden and safe by rare??

Regardless its safe to see that people are starting to focus down on their teams and are checking vigourusly for AFKers, we not just need a measure to Team Kick them.

  • I prefer the devs making effort to improve the game instead of making mecanism to detect while a player is "AFK".
I don't care if some one is 40-40-40 by doing nothing if it doesn't ruin my experience.

  • @chrysdaze same but it comes down to when you NEED that extra hand, a Galleon if XB1 vs Galleon of PC, you need all hands on deck.

  • @ianwoneill

Is question of priority. I didn't say that they shouldn't add a kick system. ( And likely they are doing it ).
But i mean i would prefer other things in my opinion :p

If you only made 12k over night then I dont see a huge problem by any means. You can make 12k solo in less than an hour. It is a scummy thing to do to make other players earn you gold and I have not encountered it, but i usually solo or matchmake with 4 known players

  • @thejellydonut78 12k solo in less than 1h ? I'd love for you to teach me how you do that. From my experience, even with one crewmate to ease things, I get around 5k/hour, not more.

    Unless you solo events ?

  • @dairadh you can usually make that if you buy and cancel merchant voyages to get a bunch of cages and then go capture all the animals you can. Then you complete a bunch of merchant voyages quickly. Or just make sure you dont cash in every island you get loot from.

I ususally get 3ish chests at my level from gold hoarders of varrying quality. So If you pay 100% attention to the game you make anhwhere from like 4-12k I would guess depending on luck and voyage quality.

  • This is funny because last night my buddies (3) joined a random galleon where a guy was afk on ferry of damned. We did a skelly fort as 3 with him dead and cashed it all in... We theorized this is what he was doing but we didnt care as we were going to 3 person anyway

  • @picklebeard22 t'was probably me. 😂

why didn't you remake the lobby when you joined in and found a missing player?

  • @thejellydonut78 ,
Just out of curiosity, how do you make 12 k in under an hour?

Edit: just saw your reply to similar question. So I call bul***t. Good for you though.

  • @sir-rhavi , because they did not get less by having an AFKer

  • This is why we have a club with a roster of good players we can hit up from said club. Over 25 anyone? Check out 'Rogues And Scoundrels' via xbox live clubs.

    Cheers.

  • @smashywashy said in "AFK" Players taking FREE LOOT!!:

@sir-rhavi , because they did not get less by having an AFKer

for sure they did not, BUT i prefer to sail with a full 4 crew, instead of 3, makes life easier, less risky, and usually more profitable in terms of gold/minute.

  • @sir-rhavi we saw a skelly fort was up :)

  • @smashywashy The number varries based on luck for sure. But one golden animal is worth 1.5k. Some voyages have 2 goldens and another animal. Using merchant strategy one voyage can be 3-4k and if you took the time before that to catch animals then you can do 2-3 in an hour

  • @chrysdaze there's people in the world that want to play and have fun, you rather an "AFK"er macro or rubberband their Xbox controller, do NOT 1 single piece of work but also obtain the loot from doing it as well?

  • @picklebeard22 see here is a story where a player, who was ACTUALLY playing could join and help and reek the rewards, instead Little Jimmy put a rubberband around his Xbox Controller and was on the "Ferry of the Damned" for 10+ hours making a total of 10-20K while asleep.

    #VoteToKick #ComingSoon?

  • @cmm-solo don't promote your crew here? There's other subsections for that. This has nothing to do with that.

  • @smashywashy you can make 10K+ an hour by Farming Forts, even 1 fort will give you a minimum of 8-10K add a captains chest or crate of exquisite spices and that's 10K an hour. I made 71K yesterday in a couple of hours. Go check it out!
