Be sure to check your lockers. When you start off you have access to a sailor's cutlass, sailor's pistol, sailor's blunder buster, and sailor's sniper rifle.
I did not know we had access to the last two items when you start out, so I saved my gold coins up and passed up several items I wanted purchase. When I bought a blunder buster and set to equip it I discovered I already had this item and it was simply a skin I purchased.
@bluehawk89 Yeah, pretty common knowledge. Everyone has instant access to the same arsenal and everything is cosmetic. No vertical progression.
@epicdejavudoo I'm literally in the same boat (No SoT pun intended) I got the full admiral outfit, and then going for the sails first then ship skin :O Must be an admiral thing to do XD
@pleasantcarnage if you dont have one i hear there is an issue with some players mission items..it should be fixed with the update tomorrow morning
@theothervillain At the moment it seems the rifle is equipped when you log in, or else it will be in the weapons cupboard outside the blacksmith or on board ship.
@snomann168 Yup, it is indeed real. The game doesn't do a great job of explaining thing. Character creation for example... didn't know that favorite keeps them in the slot nor did I not know we can only "make" one charscter per account. I don't like looking at videos before I play so a lot of it is trial and error.

Well no shame matey, we were all landlubbers at a time. Make sure to visit the forums, plenty of old sea dogs to " show you the ropes" lol that was a sailing joke ;)
@snomann168 yea, I gotcha. Nothing wrong with some puns. Yea, I'm on the forums quite a bit... probably more than I've played the game. There seem to be a lot of unhappy sailors at this point. In my limited experience with the game i think it suffers from the same problem Destiny does, the world doesn't seem alive. I think any developer that desires to make an open world game needs to play Red Dead Redemption and take some notes. RDR has a zoo's worth assortment of animals, a surprising amount of random encounters, multiple ways to dealing with enemies, (disarm, capture, drag, animal bait, run em over with a train, execute or just plain shoot), several betting based mini games...
I realize these are two vastly different games but I'd imagine some developer can find someway to implement it or at least come close.

Item vendor will let you buy mug (cheapest at 4k+) and special mugs depending on your reputation levels with Orders. :)
