Larger crews, Larger Ships? Pirate guilds and Hideouts? Armadas, fleets of ships? Larger map size?

  • So we have the 1-2 man crew ship Sloop. We have the 3-4 man crew ship the Gallon. Will we ever possibly get larger crew ships for ships like a Frigate (5-6 man crew) or Ironclad (7-8 man crew). if the implementation of these ships do happen will there possibly be a system to where we can have pirate guilds with respective hideouts that we can fortify and bring loot to? If this is also implemented possibly larger map sizes too? What of being able to have multiple people be able to command a ship and have a fleet of ships that can raid skull forts or other hideouts. Maybe if this were in the game increase the chance of the Kraken to attack armadas?

  • @hellvox2180 I agree with the all of this, but if they end up doing it, it will be a little further on hopefully not to far off though

  • yeah new ship models with largers crews would be awsome. But how could you fight against an armada of, lets say 3 fully crewed galleons?

  • @superbananapunk overcoming these fleets would be a blunder if maybe perhaps that a new Pirate Code log be "No fleet of ships my attack any other smaller than itself by one ship" (I'm sure that 2 galleons could potentially take out 3).

  • The crews need to stay reasonable to avoid the game becoming a gank-fest.

Guilds would just means 5+ ships sailing around and killing everyone. Not fun for the people being ganked, and ultimately not fun for anyone in the group who isn't intent on griefing. The game should remain a challenge.

3-man ship would be nice. And new possible ship types for each crew number would be good and would add variety.

  • @hellvox2180 I love this idea!! This will make the game more long term playable like eve online

  • @monkeyserver EVE Online was a great game for its time. Very artistic and very expansive and amazing quality of work design for when it released. I have a couple friends from when the game launch that still play it to this day. So I hope that this game adds in at least one of the ideals that came from founder insights and myself, as well that the game can last inspiration and play ability as EVE Online.

  • @Fikkia With guilds I had more of the idea that you could have guild wars. This is the idea that you could have two fleets of ships going head fighting for skull island raid completions. Or have seasonal events of leader boards that people in a guild can complete quests and climb ranks. Possible ranks being "Highest Accumulative Gold," "Ships Pillaged," "Raids Completed," or any others that you can think of and such. what do you think @Fikkia?

  • @hellvox2180

If it could work I'd like it, but this still currently leads to 4 guild ships versus 1 non-guild ship. The game is currently balanced around single ships.

Guilds also sort of reduce outside interaction as you'd simply start grouping with a guild.

  • Maybe if it was a PC game. This is a console title so it has to be held back as not to blow up the console kiddie's xbox. Try out a game called Black Wake if you want decent sized crews

  • @xhoperidesalone This is a PC game. Not dominantly but i know many people who play this on PC as well as myself.

  • @hellvox2180 This would be great.

  • @fikkia Well if not ships v. ships I'm sure that there can be a guild system where it works leader-board wise.

  • The game has so much potential it is great fun to play and m kind of glad we have a bare bone game that we as a community can build . I would like to be able to bury treasure and sell the maps? Also a way of capturing an enemy and locking them in the brig . I’m literally over flowing with ideas, the game inspires creativity. The water is an absolute masterpiece.

  • @snipercondriak I like your input on the matter. This made me start thinking what if there were other kind of bounties that you can get to search for other players that have a bounty on them and bring them to justice as dead or alive. although i have no idea how that would be implemented in the game with the Dead Man's Ferry in the game. It'd be a nice thought though.

  • @hellvox2180

Instead of larger crews I would like to see a Parle/ Pact system . Here is a link to the thread about it.
    https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/46518/create-a-pact-parle-function

  • @ultimatekoch I've read it and i like your idea here. This would fit gradually but like someone in my post has mentioned is that if this does happen, it going to suck for those who don't have a larger crew like that. The analogy they used is "a 2 man Sloop versus 3 galleons" as well as "1 galleon versus 2 galleons". It just wouldn't be fair to the people who aren't able to play with larger crews or are not comfortable with it. Also for people trying to do their merchants quest and all the sudden a couple galleons come and sink their ship.

  • I like the idea of more types of ship to choose from, I think having a crew maximum of 6 would be good, but that ship would have to be a lot bigger, and nearly impossible to get too close to islands (would require a separate row boat attached) it would need to be slower to manoeuvre and have more factors involved in it's control, so that it's difficult to sail without a very organised crew. This would then make it more balanced when competing against ships of smaller size.

A smaller ship designed for a single player and a 3 player specific ship would also be good.

  • @hellvox2180 Someone commented this in the topic as well. It does make the issue for smaller crews being outnumbered bigger. I play solo or with 2 myself most of the times. I would only make 2 crews be able to make a pact though not more. It is something to think about, thanks!.

  • I doubt they will add larger ships for a long while mostly due to the balancing issue. At the moment Galleons and Sloops are in a kind of good asymmetrical balance. (I said kind of meaning its not perfect).

Armada's would be amazing BUT the issue with this is that its would be extremely difficult to deal with say a galleon and two sloops no matter what you can't outrun them. If your against the wind the sloops WILL catch you if your with the wind that Galleon will be chomping on your a*s in minutes.

Hideouts would be amazing, and I do hope they add something like this. A space for you and friends to enjoy thats not well.... not gonna get into the pirate legend c**p. But yeah personal hdieouts would be awesome.

Larger map would be nice but it would need ALOT more more pve enemies to help balance out that you would be dealing with less players.

As for the Kraken it needs to be redone to be more of a threat....

  • I could get behind larger ships that allow for a larger crew. But as other people have mentioned, pirate guilds setting up fleets will be hell. I've played solo and having even a 3 man crew attacking/spawn killing you is horrible. Maybe if there were AI controlled "Man'O'Wars" that went after notorious griefers (something along the lines of GTA's wanted level; the more you grief, the bigger the ships hunting you is) and patrolled the area around outposts.

Make it a safe haven for new players. Or maybe players could place bounties at taverns on players that have killed them more then X amount of times.

There's a number of ways to balance out having fleets and griefing but we will see.

Honestly though, real talk for a second... CAN WE HAVE DINGHIES!? Gallon's and larger ships should have 1-2 small little row boats (depending on the ship size) so they can row from their ship to land and back again as a faster mode of transport then trying to swim with loot

  • @graven-schism All of these flaws that you have talked about i have also discussed with one of my friends that is a founder for the game and a insider. We all came up with a pros and cons listing that we are still working on. We're not able to work on it currently because of our lack of academic diligence because of the many new releases of games and work.

  • @rm-xkaos Wow... my guys have never thought about this. With just us able to power attack with the sword off the ship that would be a great implementation to the game. That makes for an easier way to transport all of your goods.

  • No
    No
    No
    No
    No
Bigger map, i'm sure we will get that...in 6months or so

  • I would say this is a good idea having bigger crews, but I can't even get more than 1 friend at a time on this game at any given point. So I would just be at a larger disadvantage. Seriously tho it's like no one plays this game.

  • So biggest complaint is that people dont know how to take on a fleet... go learn from eve online. Get and make friends or die trying. I really like the idea of a bigger ship or ability to fleet smaller ships so you can add friends as your party size grows. Or in ports make the ability to upsize the ship to add more people to your party.

What some people call game breaking others call emergent gameplay. People want to build communities naturally, let them.

What will happen is there will be pirates, there will be people that try and save others from pirates the two are inevitable.

  • Jesus C****t people, this is not a tactical pirate simulator......it is not an MMO either, quit trying to turn it into one.

  • @hellvox2180

This sounds like a great idea, but there is the problem of balancing. This would make it unbalanced. However, by like the ratio of guild players to all the players on the servers, it could prevent the unbalance and make a more even playing field

There should be more ships, more map (although it’s extensive enough), and a hide out would be cool but the game wants to prevent safe zones

  • @HellVox2180 - An Ironclad? Completely different eras, mate.

Piracy was the 17th Century. The Ironclad was 19th.

Rather than going larger - we should be looking at an in-between ship first.

    1-2: Sloop
    2-3: Schooner/Brigantine
    3-4: Galleon

    Then look to larger ships:
    4-6: Frigate
    7-8: Man Of War

The other ideas are fun to think about, but a lot of downside to armadas. Maybe when there is more in the game ... but right now, it would be real trouble.

I like the above idea on a Parlay system. Temporary alliances.

  • I'm just gonna wait for Skulls and Bones for this kind of stuff.

  • @hellvox2180

One thing I think would be awesome would be if their was a Flying Dutchman, much like the one from Pirates of the Caribbean, that appears sporadically around the map, just beyond the map edge. It would be awesome to see it as a pirate guild raid, requiring at least two galleons.

This legendary ship could even do the flip over submerge move from the movie. And reappear right next to the closest frigate. And of course if the pirates heard a Davy Jones inspired chant to summon a Kraken, that would be legit too. Like once you get the ship to about half health you hear the chant begin, ending with a low and thunderous base noise. And now the two ships swap back and forth between fighting a Kraken or fighting the Dutchman.

After defeating said event the MVP of the event gets a dice roll chance at either:

1: A Dutchman cosmetic for their ship, like a megalodon figurine ram or a fish tank in the Captain’s quarters with a mini Kraken in it. The torn sails, gold cannons, or ship effect like summons fog around the boat.

2: A player cosmetic of Davy Jones squid face or however you make him look. His weapons, or pirate getup.

3: Hideout cosmetic with Davy Jones being at a hidden table and who gives you info on other players ships carrying tons of loot, where the Kraken travels at all times, or skull fort activations.

4: Extremely Rare 1:100 chance to get a one time use Kraken in a bottle. You can throw it in the waters. Which summons a defensive Kraken that could be used to stop incoming pirates from stealing loot from like a skull fort. Or just protect the area around said fort. Basically making the skull fort exclusively for your team. It can be defeated, and if an opposing someone defeats it they get an achievement.
