Sea of thieves is a large expansive world with plenty to do. But, overtime new material will be craved which will lead to the discussion, will Rare add DLC or Free Content Updates? So, what's a Free Content Update to those who do not know (which most of you will). Take Halo 5: Guardians as an example, they added free content updates adding maps, modes, and gear. Sea of Thieves has plenty of potential for this. So, what do you sailors believe are good ideas for DLC and Free Content Updates that could expand the game or different areas?
DLC or Free Content Update Concepts
@odst-a-morris i believe SoT will do the free content update model. if they did dlc that you had to buy it splits the players up. thats why there will be a microtransaction store to buy i think skins as well as pets. that money will the probably go towards making new free content.
-Ship instances like a battle royal thing.
-more major boss enchanters like the kracken/ghost ship at night/White Whale.
-more ship types and sizes so we see all kinds on the open sea.
-Player factions to lead to faction fights
-Player fort battles with factions kind of like attack/defend idea.just off the top of my head.
@jarofpeachz Smart thinking, companies have to add microtransactions nowadays sadly. But, it is good that they could just use the money for cosmetic purposes only like Fortnite, making it not pay to win or pay to experience new content.
For a game that has this little content and charged $65 for you can guarantee that future content will be free. Cause let be real this game is fun at the moment but there is very very little to really do. Almost all it is is visually stunning but past that it's kinda empty. No story, only thing you getting gold for is customization skins which really = nothing to improve your character. Only two types of ships not much variety there when you think this is a sea base game and there only two ships types. Lot of things are lacking which hopefully will be added as the game "evolves" which means lets push the game out and see what the public wants in the game then that's what we work on business practice they choose. Also lots of bugs to work out the game, think I ran into at least five yesterday. But yes this game at the moment not worth $65 so best not charge for content or we will know we been "no man skyed" again. Only thing that not making this completely bad is that it has some pvp. Not enough pvp way to far and inbetween when you see someone else but when it happens it is fun to battle.
@odst-a-morris I think a variety of quest types will be essential. Some of the biggest complaints I've been seeing are that you just do 1 type of mission so people get bored quick. I'd like to see more factions or some kind of mysterious vendor with high end special voyages that you can only do once and are available for limited time with special rewards at the end (clothing/weapon skins you can only get from the voyages). I'd love to see more ship types specifically that allow more players on 1 ship. 4 just seems too small. Fishing would be great, also just more sea life in general, definitely more monsters. I also think a small amount of NPC controlled ships would add A LOT to the game. I don't see why Rare thinks it's such a terrible idea. They could be kind of like floating fortresses that are super hard to take down but have massive reward pools when completed.
@killerkueken Yes exactly, I think both would be really interesting. Especially if they made really big trade ships that had specific routes at specific times so lots of players will show up along the way. Basically a moving skeleton fort.
@odst-a-morris Everything they add better darn well be a Free Content Update. Charging $60 USD for this game at its current state is just plain robbery.

I paid 90 cdn and i completely agree? is there any proof it will not be? I was shocked how little end game there is.
@zsneakydude Rare has already stated multiple times that outside of microtransactions, all future content will be free.

Phew, thanks i also forgot to mention i paid 96 CDN to bring in a USA player to the game, i just cant play without a bud here or there..... So i bought it for him too. But thanks for the info.
Hi,
I believe that more islands is a must along with sea expansion for a bigger area. One of the updates i would like to see besides the 2 new boats - A Backpack that we can level up to add more items, this will allow players to hold more bananas etc needed with a weight limmit or purchase of a bigger bag for more gold, or possibly a Safe on the Ship to deposit a certain amount of loot to safe keep so no one looses out completely.
The devs have stated they won't do DLC because that would cause players to be divided. The game is a games as a service game, meaning it will continue to be updated free of charge with new content to stay alive. That's why they will soon have an ingame microtransactions shop with pets and whatnot. That's what will continue to fund the game so we can have these free content updates.
Anyway, I would like to see an arctic biome. With glaciers and whatnot in the water. You can also take freezing damage being in the water. Also, more diverse sea life, more enemies (like hostile mermaids, Harpies, etc). I would also LOVE to see a random malestrom encounter in the waters. And the entire crew would have to work together and keep the sails in the wind to get out of it. Would be so wicked cool. I'm also up for the Megaladon idea. I hear tell that soon Rare is going to be allowing 4 man sloops. Which would almost render the galleon completely unused. Adding the Megaladon would be the incentive to use a Galleon. If the Megaladon rams a Galleon, it just causes holes that need repairing and also has the chance of knocking pirates off the boat, if it rams into a sloop, it does double or triple the damage. Overall, this game will inevitably get better and better (even though I'm in love with it right now). I'm excited for the future of this game.
I also would like to see an opposite title to Legendary for those pirates who don't uphold the pirate code. DREADED. Can you imagine being a dreaded pirate instead of a legendary pirate? Would be so awesome! Also, pirate names instead of gamertags to stop rage messages for being a merciless pirate. No one, not even crew can see your gamertag unless you use the make a friend emote.@blg-strong-dad or they could add NPC's who actually act as real sailors. I mean the whole point of the game is to be a pirate right?? Well don't pirates usually go for merchants, not other pirates?? So I think a whole NPC controlled company could be cool. Like NPC sailing traders that you could come across and choose to either sink them and collect gold, or trade with and get maybe deals on cosmetic items or special rare items that you can't find any other way.
