The combat is just a big joke in this game, not playable. No skill what so ever.
Make it like in Vermintide 2!
And bring on hords of skelletons and bosses.
Then SoT would go from being one of the worst games to one of the best! Do it Rare!

@kaptenbloood There be skill in the fightin, you just not be using the mechanics to your advantage. If you be runnin around swingin yet sword wildly you may hit some stuff but fight someone who knows how to block and strike properly and your will settings be useless. Granted, on the surface I give you it seems lackin, but master the mechanics and you'll see the hand to hand combat be much better than it seems on the surface!
@hyr0-the-pyr0 You can be right, but there is no feeling to the combat. So i think it is just not working for me.
@kaptenbloood im fine with the combat :P so long as im able to have both guns and the game doesn't cheat me down to one weapon im good.
@ogone-r0gueo A lot of feeling an skill in the combat. I think that SoT realy lacking that.

@kaptenbloood I have been ignoring this game because I dislike that they limited the magic to fire, but the combat in this trailer looks pretty good. I might have to give this a try.
@kaptenbloood and from what ive seen of vermintide 2 combat its mostly just hack and slash not much skill involved

Why only guns? is it cause melee is clunky?
@killermajaro no i like using the sword but the past few hours ive been stucking using only one weapon due to a bug so it made fighting a lil more difficult

What bug? for me melee freezes up, and has a big delay at times. might be down to the netcode i guess.. your bug the one where it basically locks 1 weapon down and unable to swap? cause if you kill yourself once then it fixes.

Vermintide has alright combat, would be interesting to see it on here.. but i wouldn't say it has the best combat.. and alot of the time dodges don't work unless you're the ranger.. now she's fun
@kaptenbloood you're a 100% right, the melee is a joke in SoT. You know something is wrong when a small game studio in sweden makes better melee combat than a studio who is backed by microsoft.
It’s taken them 4 years to get to this point. Over a year in alpha and and beta. They aren’t gonna change it. I’ve always had issues with the combat. Especially the sword combat. It’s, floaty, unresponsive and clunky. Making contact with other players isn’t even satisfying. There is zero tactile feedback.
I’ve gave them my feedback about this more times than i can remember. They are obviously happy with it :(
To be fair I play both, and Vermintide 2 you can pretty much just button mash your way through Hordes 90% of the time. It's not that skillful really.
On the harder difficulties you do need to pay attention and block/dodge effectively - but that's the same case in SoT.
You can button mash your way through some players, but for those that know what they are doing you'd better be using your blocking/block-dodge/sword dash effectively or else you're dead.
I've never played Vermintide 2, so I only have the video to go by. It doesn't look that deep. I'm not seeing any combos or parry. I don't disagree that the player-to-player combat in SoT is lacking. If this is a true pirate game, the fights should have a dramatic flair. You should be swinging from ropes and stays, doing somersaults, sliding down sails and all sorts of other cool stuff. I just don't see the point in taking the combat from another game and superimposing it onto this one.

@kaptenbloood guy is a moron. as yes vermintide is nice, it really is just a hold left click swarm fest. you really do just run around swing sword and try and screen swing will doing so.
I love vermintide, but its just another powerlevel grind with 13 short maps.
@critx Haha, you dont know what you are talking about. But the point of this post is that the combat in SoT is just the biggest joke.
