The game looks fantastic. We had some fellas chasing us for half an hour trying to get our chests, which was all good fun and felt satisying. we managed to get our chests handed in just before we died. Then the opposing players then waited over the mermaid respawn point and became griefers for 10 minutes and killed us before my white screen cleared away. Rather than keep dying we ended up quitting the game. This does not follow the "pirate code" that SoT speak of. I am removing my pre-order and holding off purchasing this game until they come to remedy this concern.
I enjoy PvP, play it thoroughly in many other games, I am there to have fun, kill a couple of times, be killed, but not griefed for no game satisfaction and no ability to recollect myself before yet again being griefed.

Your loss.
So after 10 minutes of trying to grab your mermaid, you decide to cancel your preorder and complain on the forums?
1: Killing people aint griefing.
2: Mermaid is a sloppy mechanic which we, as those scurvy humans we are, can and will exploit. Your enemies did. Applause to them!
3: Change session.@softpad I'm sorry to hear that. I think the white screen spawning is a bug, or I hope it is. Everyone should have a fair chance.

Sorry, but no. Really.
@softpad
Sorry you had to face some not very pleasant players who think spawn camping is fair.
If you caught their gamertags, report them to Xbox & send a report to Rare.

Spawn Killing for 10 minutes is griefing!! You want to applaud people who grief, cheat or abuse others?
I hope you encounter something similar & then say if its a fair mechanic!!@softpad I agree killing someone over and over when the re-spawn is griefing they had nothing to gain from doing so, as like you said you had nothing because you had cashed in the chests, anyone who defends that kind of action with any lame excuse is the kind of person who does it.
@Emanuel-Wynnn

I hope you encounter something similar & then say if its a fair mechanic!!They did not spawn kill him.
They simply swam to his mermaid which is not classified as griefing at all - the white screen he is talking about, is because the rig he played on, properly had some issues with the loading times, thus spawning hes character in before he could do anything.
The players "griefing" had no possible chance to see, the player they were killing, were actually currently loading in, having a white screen - see it from both perspectives already please.
Also OP describes, they had already chased him for some time, he managed to cash in his chests, while fighting them. Point is, they were having a fight. This is what the game is about.
Rare just have to tweak mechanics, so we dont have players which are loading in, and can get shot while they're at it.
When does people realise this?
Oh, so you've never seen a mermaid, and used ít for a tactical advantage in some way?
What an angel you are @HappyAlbe.@emanuel-wynnn camping over a spawn point - the mermaid - and killing someone over and over for no reason at all IS griefing.
@emanuel-wynnn
Yes they did spawn kill him.
If he is at white screen coming back from the ferry & the other crew is camping his mermaid waiting for him to spawn in & kill him as soon as he does, then that is spawn killing.
You can say black is white if you want, but what they did was a cheap, dirty, unfair use of the mechanic.
You said 'The players "griefing" had no possible chance to see, the player they were killing, were actually currently loading in, having a white screen - see it from both perspectives already please.' So why would the other crew be sitting waiting at his mermaid for 10mins??
SPAWN CAMPERS ARE S**M!!So you've have indeed exploited the Mermaid mechanic.
There you go...
Dude... Chill, they didn't kill him over and over and over again. They were having a fight for booty. This is what fighting in Sea of Thieves are all about.
You dont set the rules of engagement or context. The game does. And the game allows it. Blame the game, not the players. I'm sure they were having a blast while "spawn killing" this unfortunate pirate.
I got rekt by a 4 man Galleon crew, while introducing the game to my girlfriend at Golden Sands Outpost. She reacted just like you and many others, about how lame there were to kill an empty freshly spawned sloop with no players on, what so ever. While i quickly explained to her, how things works in this game. She immediately changed her perspective, and laughed it off. We spawned a new boat, and had countless hours of fun.

Read the OP's post again! They had no treasure & were killed repeatedly for 10mins. Spawn Camping isn't fighting!

Yes, the mechanic needs fixing. Unfortunately we can't fix the people who think that cheating is fine!!
Killing people for gold is fine- but killing ppl you KNOW have nothing, spawn camping ect is all toxic behavior.
I feel the exact same way, was mega excited about this game. But now me and my friends are 90% leaning away from getting this game till we see how it's altered for release. Hopped from server to server getting hunted down all day by the same ppl in the different servers. If we just hear about spawn campers and toxic behavior continuing we'll just stay far away.Some people just want to be explorers and adventures, not victims to over aggressive players harassing us repeatedly. Getting invaded in Dark Souls is less annoying.
Maybe see how that Ubisoft knock off of this game ends up once that comes out if things don't change here.
@Emanuel-Wynnn there's a difference between what i do and what they did. I don't prevent players from respawning. I do the opposite, I prevent them from bothering me by avoiding the point where they might respawn.

Having a fight for booty my [beep]. I'm calm, there's no need to tell me to chill out, btw.
If there's a problem with a game mechanic it doesn't mean you have to use it to that point.@logansdadtoo to say it's cheating is incorrect. Abusing an in-game system is not cheating. They didn't back the game or do anything that rare didn't allow for. Greifing is a debatable term. Cheating is not.
@steele66 Agree with you on this. Cheating is completely another thing. This is more exploiting a faulty respawn mechanic for a not-so-obvious-and-understandable desire of disrupting people's enjoyment.
@softpad You clearly didn't use the tools available to you to scuttle your ship which would then have re-spawned you at your ships new location after dying again. If you had no more treasure you were trying to fight to defend then you should have simply scuttled your ship and moved on. This is not grieving, its playing the game as designed.
@mdk-popinfresh if they sink your ship and then you die don't you have to take the mermaid to your new ship before it will spawn? or am i mistaken?
@saladbrains no your ship will re-spawn in another location once its sunk or scuttled regardless of you living or dying. If you die after your ship is spawned in a new location you will spawn on it / the island it's at.
Yes, i do need to tell you people to chill out, from time to time... Chill out and enjoy the game. Theres too much salt in these waters.
Deal with your so called "fun ruiners", by changing session, scuttle ship or simply fight them in the future. And dont let them ruin your play session, because they simply kill you? Move on...
@mdk-popinfresh I admit to just doing that at the end of the stress test.... my mermaid was at the back of the island, I was actually waiting for someone to come ashore so I could steal his chest but got a player spawn in...I did kinda feel bad as I watched his ship sink before he had stepped foot on it....

@softpad Well it's not called sea of friends. Your loss. Bye felicia.
LOL!!!
@emanuel-wynnn oh i do. I don't think @Softpad did though. And i totally understand his feeling.
Now, scuttling ship. Well, ok. Fight them? maybe. But having to change a session is definitely not an answer for that.@pir4te-roberts said in Griefing has removed me from the game:

No biggie, its a pirate game. I'd kill you along side my crew that just spawned with me and then hop the merman to wherever our ship re-spawned. This isn't grieving, it just isn't. The issue with spawning on your still afloat ship trying to defend it and getting killed while staring at a white screen is poor game design which I'm sure will be addressed by making people spawn more randomly on the ship without being placed into the world before they can act.
The rest of people complaining about this are just people who either don't know about the games options (scuttling your ship), or people simply whining that they are getting "spawn camped" because they are in fact trying to re-spawn so they can attempt to save their loot.
@happyalbe said in Griefing has removed me from the game:
@mdk-popinfresh There's no way to save your loot if they spawn camp you at the mermaid. Go figure.
Scuttle your ship and move on then, they bested you in battle.
