Treasure Maps on bigger islands issuses

  • Me and my friends have some insuses with the treasure maps on bigger islands. somtimes the X and the way the island is detailed on the map can make relly hard to read (like i have to go right up to my screen) this might be due to the fact there's a lot stuff all close the together and the map can only show so much, but fact is that because of that it can make it really quite hard read treasure map. This was in Wanderer's Refuge kinda sort of in the middle if that helps.

You have to try & pick out landmarks on the map, like groups of trees, rocks & especially red plants ;)
Also a quick hint - before you go onto your 'treasure' island, compare your handheld map with the map on your ship as you can zoom right in!!
Or you could change you FOV slider to minimum to 'zoom in' on the map ;)

  • It's not meant to be overly easy... You need to work for that booty! If it was easy... We'd all be wealthy and likely bored of this component of the game.

Like @LogansDadToo said, compare your map with the map on the ship. Zoom in, look for distinct landmarks. I also use the ship map to plan a route to where the X is to keep me on course so to speak.

  • I have not experienced this problem. Are you in high rez? Old tv? Computer?

Myself, I’m on Xbox X with a 42” 4K tv and there are some maps that are difficult, but like the other guy said, it’s supposed to be that way.

  • @CodeName-Jenova @LogansDadToo i know it not meant to be easy to find chest, but it rank 5. me and my friend had problem like this before in the alpha when the map didn't line up the with island very well, it was kinda similar, but it just seemed like the was stuff missing on map there was red bush, but it wasn't there on the map unless the X covered it up i know i was right island because i had two chest and i got the other one just fine.

  • Agreed. Being able to zoom just enough to make out the topographical features we will key off of would be better. Not full zoom just enough to retain some difficulty but still be able to pick out the features nessessary to locate the chests. For everyone not just 4k view. Xbox One and PC players alike.

  • This is kind of the point, not all X Mark the Spot maps are equal, some are easy and some require some really good map reading skills.

If they made them all easy people would get bored fast.

  • @uk-jake-sas They really do need a zoom feature for us PC players on small monitors.

I recently had a map for Canon Cove with five chests marked on it. Four of them in a straight North/South line but none were where the map indicated. I found three in total, two of those inline yet each were on the opposite side of the rocks drawn. Instead of being North of each huge rock as the "X"es indicated the chests were found directly South of each rock.

Digging for chest #1, I found chest#2. Digging near the marked spot for chest #2, I found chest #3. My friend and I spent way too long there and decided to just leave.
After leaving that island I found seven chests in a row at first dig (two islands) so it's not a case of just me being bad at reading maps or finding them.

Yeh some islands are particularly tricky to pin-point the treasure exactly but if you delve in to Settings, there's one to make X's high contrast if you're colorblind, this makes them white. I am colorblind and this helped a lot, but I hear of others who aren't and they say it makes finding exact spots a bit easier in foliage.

  • Have a friend hold up the map then use your spyglass to look at the map. You can make out a good bit more detail that way. Use your tools and work together.
