Always Showing Other Player Name Plates Ruins Stealth Play

  • Currently in the stress tests if any person gets within I would say 100m of you, their white name plate appears above their head over the character. The name plate will show on land and even when people swim under water.

This ruins any chance of a stealth boarding of an enemy ship when your bright white name plate appears as you swim under water. I was attempting to stealth board an enemy ship and once they could see my name plate, their entire crew started shooting at me in the water even though I was few meters below the water line.

My suggestion: reduce the range in which you can see an opposing player’s name and remove the white name plate of players until they’re within line of sight of your character so stealth play isn’t punished. If a player is under water, you shouldn’t be able to see their name plate and would have to resort to physically spotting them in the water.

  • I'd agree with the under water part they should be in the water with you to see your nameplate.

I've had no problems on land with stealth/nameplate being spotted.

  • I'll upvote this. It's common sense. Even above sea / land, its just an eyesore. There are plenty of other ways to identify a player so you can report them, or to leave the name tags in but make them much fairer and realistic for the game.

  • I stole 2 chests on a Galleon alone, there was 3 person on the ship and no body saw me ...

You just need to understand the mechanics and practice more you sneaky tricks.

  • @dominator051 I suggest checking this topic out. It's about stealth and it covers a lot to do with it.

  • I don't see any need for name tags at all, especially as so much effort has been made to have a clean HUD.

If you want to know a players name, then make the friend emote with them. Thats enough imo.
