New Weapon? The Boarding Ax!

  • i've heard rumors of an assortment of new weapons being implemented on release, one being the boarding ax.

    Historically, the boarding ax was used to fight fires (useful on a wooden ship) as well as breaking in doors n such.

    My thoughts are that this is possibly a weapon that could be used to break holes into a ship's hull. Unless they plan on bringing in boat fires or destructible terrain... i don't see what else this could mean.

    this is assuming the rumors are true...

  • That's from the Datamine and they've already said the datamine is not a valid source to base what will be in the game because certain things they try but they don't work. It's most definitely not going to be in at launch, but there's always the chance that they might add it a few months after launch, so you and me will have to keep our fingers crossed.

  • @niilrokk what makes you say that it will most definitely not be in the game at launch?

  • @rrucio we have 25 or so days left till launch and adding new weapons would add a lot of things that would have to be tested, for example as to how a sword would interact with a boarding axe in a fight, both physically and how it would be balanced mechanically. If we were going to have it by launch we would have seen it or heard about it by now. Again there will be more content being added after launch and I could believe that could include things like new melee weapons, guns and more.

  • At least 2 different axes can already be seen in the weapon shops

  • Could be "skins" for the cutless. Operates the same, but with a new look.

  • @d4king55 There is also a fancy looking hand axe stuck in one of the crossbeams just above the weaponsmiths head

  • I wouldn't mind a couple types of boarding axes. Maybe a bigger one that can do hull damage if you manage to get to a lower deck and a smaller hand ax that lets you scale the side of a ship so you don't need to be funneled into the ladder just to meet the wrong end of a blunderbuss at the top. Both axes should take weapon slots and be less effective than a sword in a melee fight.

  • yeah every aspect of the game is not in the beta/stress tests. we've only seen a portion of the map and the other trade companies for example. its not far fetched to believe that this could be implemented.

    adding a weapon to the game that is meant to sink ships would change pvp tactics in a large way. pirates would need to be a lot more mindful of enemies boarding their ship.

  • First: Where did you heard of it? Can you give me an source please :)
    Second: I think if you could do damage into the ships hull this would be extremely overpowered except for you need more than 5hits to make an hole.
    third: Fire on ships should be cool and gonna make the game way more interesting. maybe a fire could break out if the flash hits? (it already does this?)
