make the crew sizes bigger

  • alt text

  • maybe make it an option for legendary captains to get a bigger ship with other legendary only, then there is no problem working the ship, other than who sails it as captain.

But yeah for casual players and those who don't understand the high lvl of communication u can get with an organice crew of 8-40
I come from Planetside 2 where Outfits can be 100+
not all play's at the same time but most of the time it was like 20-30 players, and when there is "quiet" times we just casual talking, but in action, its very Military like, with commands and stuff. and nothing like everybody speaking at the same time
So ill will not recommend that it will be random players just put together, cause that will ruin the game experience for crews bigger than 4.

  • @moulld I would like 6-8 man crew as well, and the ship would be impossible large for 40 players in this game yes, just saying that the point that Rare's make with 4 is the perfect nr. is only right in random matchmaking
But for an outfit it is possible to have 40+ players that plays together with perfeck communication

  • The number is where its at because after testing it was deemed that was the best number for the current ships. If you get into a fair fight, 4v4 can last a damn long time, now increase that number to say 6. Thats 4 on cannons, one on repair and another steering, even harder to sink each other. 8? Well you would never sink a ship with a crew that size with the current ships. To accommodate a larger a crew you would need a larger ship and with a larger ship you will need more jobs. Each cannon shot received would have to create two holes instead of one etc, it would need to be balanced out. This is why the crew sizes are what they are. Its really not as simple as just allowing 8 people on a galleon.

Now, that does not mean you cannot do it, many people have and it is fun, no denying that, but to do it as it stands atm unless a fleet system is introduced, people are going to have to stop shooting on sight and start making some alliances :P

  • I just want to be able to have 3 on a sloop.

  • @jkodis said in make the crew sizes bigger:

They've messed around with crew sizes. Four is good. Imagine 12 people all trying to talk at once during gameplay. It isn't fun.

    100% agreed.

  • @makinit42 2 people on a sloop is already very strong so I hope they dont do this

  • @katttruewalker what about if there are 5 or 6 real life friends that wanna play together ? Why shouldn't that be possible ?

  • @elitedrifter354 I also agree more crew members. 4 is simply not enough on larger ships. I see a lot of arguments against this and I have to say you don't know what your talking about.

    1. It is completely possible with a larger crew to talk to each other and not talk over each other. Have none of you used discord. U make it work with large parties. If people have respect and take turns even in battles like in the game Life is Feudal MMO. It's completely doable and to say it isn't is wrong.

    2. I can see having a 4 man crew on the smallest ship. That's fine but as the ship gets bigger at least 2-4 more slots should be added to manage a ship effectively and efficiently. Have u never watch pirate movies or played Black flag. Everyone has there job. Cannoneer stay on the guns. They don't raise or change the sails. Thats a different job entirely. You have you Captain who makes decisions but doesn't or rarely pilots his own ship. That is the job of your tillerman. I could go on. But I shouldn't have to point out ever job that was available during this time period. There was a chain of command and only being allowed 4 players is rubbish.

    3. The point of this game shouldn't be having to run from station to station just to manage even a meager ship. Everyone has there duties and an efficient ship can be a fun ship. If you want to complain that it would make it boring than by all means. Play single player and pilot a small ship or maybe they could implement a dingy so u can row yourself around.

    4. If the max crew size isn't increased with the larger ships I'll likely not be buying this game as good as it is. Plain and simple.

    5. I get the goal may not be to be as realistic as real life but limiting the crew to 4 makes it pure fantasy. No ship available on the game now would be pilotable with that few of players let alone be able to win any real battles. And in the case if I'm wrong it would be highly difficult.

That said. Please increase the crew size. If there are people who don't want it fine. Implement a separate server for the kiddies who can't handle true PVP and only want small crews.

  • @elitedrifter354
Not until servers are bigger. Currently they hold 6 ships or 24 players. 8 members in a single crew is 33% of the server.

  • I like 4 and hope it remains how it is, I do not want to see this turn into a numbers trump all game

  • I don't really agree with larger crew sizes exactly but it would be a cool feature to add a crew member that you met in game aboard your ship with out having to leave the game and reload. Or to perhaps be able to team up with others players and their ships to create a fleet of some sort.

  • There needs to be at least 8 crew members. A lot of pleople have a lot more than 4 friends. If u have to put crew sizes into groups 1-4 in a separate category and 5-8 in another. That way it doesn’t become unfair

  • Or at least 6 on the Galleon. I was thinking 4 for small sloop large crew, I would take 3. And then in future development... FLEETS. Like a feature allowing association of 2-3 boats through a clan name or something. Do this and I will love this game 300% more. Ideally I'm picturing, personally, a galleon(in this instance a crew of 4 would work) with an associated small sloop to carry 3 other friends on the same team.

  • Even the option to ensure you're in the same server as your friends on a different ship would be great. Even if this needed to be done on specific multi-ship group servers.

  • The important thing here that needs to be recognized, is that we should have the choice. Play tests having deemed that 4 players was the magic number is incomplete data.

We have already seen in this age of beta testing that only a rough percentage of people intending to play the game at launch actually beta test the game. Many others sit online and watch twitch/youtube/etc, not once opening the beta to try it out. Same premise as when devs internally test before bringing in the public, they are only gathering fractions of the data necessary to make decisions.

Give the option to allow 6-8 player ships, maybe even 12 if designed correctly. But put in mechanisms that allow the solo players or 2 man groups to be away from it if necessary. After playing all day yesterday with my 4 man group, the one thing we just kept saying to ourselves "we wish would could be playing with more of our friends that are online right now". Whether that would be to allow fleets to party up together or condense us to a 8 man ship. We need to have the option to make that choice. At one point, 13 of us in total were online, but all split up in to small groups, not sharing our awesome encounters with one another. That right there was very deflating, and will eventually lead to us returning to other large open world PvP games to play together.

People yelling about "that is so unfair, so over powered, how can i expect to do this or that". Tough s**t, suck it up. This is the sandbox you should knowingly understand that you are venturing in to, Open World PvP games. The rules are not fair, the game shouldn't be balanced around group size. 1 player not being able to take on 8 players is realistically no different than 1 player taking on 4, which right now the game allows. So who cares, some people will be better than you, some people will be worse than you. You will win some, you will lose some, that is all part of the game. Just suck it up and accept it. Otherwise, don't play a Open World PvP game.

And as far as coordination goes, just because some of you might not be able to comprehend how 8 - however many people could be organized and use voice comms correctly; doesn't mean the rest of us aren't capable. Some of us come from Planetside 1, Planetside 2, Archeage, EVE online, and other various online PvP MMO's. Where talking in a teamspeak of MANY people comes with its own rules. Your inability to be coordinated should not be a reason or voice to prevent others from gaining in experience.

There are many ways to pull this off, it will take some design and analysis to execute correctly. But given what the foundation of the game is. We need expand-ability in order to ensure survival of the game long term.

  • @def1le Well put!
