I see 3 types of Pirates

  • Looking at launch I see really 3 "types" of Pirates.

    1. The Landlubbers - This is the lazy scallywag type that will camp outposts in gangs to cash in on others doing the work. Just plain ol' Gankers and Griefers. In PvP I consider personally the lowest of the low.

    2. The Sea Dogs - These are the hunters on the glorious Sea of Fortune. These "Sea Dogs" at least believe in the roll of the Bones. You have a honest chance to sink, be sunk, evade or simply out sail 'em.

    3. The Pirate Kings - These are the ones who do it all. Quest, Sail and Laugh their way through hours of gameplay. I am one of these types. ( Preferably while I'm getting hammered on a certain Captain's fine distilled sugar cane / molasses ).

Well my thoughts are mine feel free to add to this list.

  • How about:
    4. The Collector- Buys all the cosmetics and the pets just to have fun around and use them.

  • Aye, I would say the same about myself. But what would you say if someone fit into the Pirate King and Landlubber groups? Though I do agree that it is the lowest form of gameplay.

  • Both a Pirate King and a Landlubber ? Perhaps a Scallywag.

  • Maybe I'm unique but I've been playing this game a pretty long time now and have never been killed by someone just hanging out at an outpost waiting to kill people. I've been killed at an outpost because I just spawned into the game. And I've seen a ship sitting at an outpost and so I turned and sailed away to a different one. But I've never experienced the player who just hangs out at an outpost shipless.

  • What do you call a pirate king who also occasionally just jumps onto other peoples ships and drops a chest off on their deck and then high tails it out of there? That was one of my favorite things to do in the beta. Getting shot at while I approach with chest in hand and then just dropping it right in front of them and pulling out the concertina and running away. Made lots of friends that way lol.

  • I merely be a humble sailor, lad.

  • @xcalypt0x an absolute Mad Lad.

  • @oldsk00l1964 I am 4. The Grog Enthusiast, You will find me drunk off my a*s sailing my ship into other ships while my crew mates play a shanty.

  • I'm an explorer first and foremost. Finding random chests in cave systems and hacking my way through dence jungle in search of lost treasure.

I needs no map sez I, only the horizon and wind in me sails. Yaaar!

  • @oldsk00l1964
    5. oldsk00l1964 - the one who judges other people from the top and staples them

  • i'm definitely a pirate king. I'll be captain Warrick the Fierce.

  • People will be no.1 for a while and at somepoint everyone will kinda be no.1 briefly because who will give up the opportunity to swipe from a foolish crew docking at the same outpost as yourselves when chance has kept you hidden.

That said, as soon as people see the signs an island is inhabited (ship, mermaid in the water - especially the mermaid) people will learn to avoid and camping will be fairly easy to avoid. Itll just take time for people to learn.

  • The Helpless - The crew that are a lost cause and sail the seven seas hopelessly searching for a place to land and hoping not to crash.

  • I'm with Pandemic Pawn. Explorer at heart, I need no map but where the winds guide me.

  • No.4 The victim: Players who dont scout and then blame the game when they get killed and lose treasure what never belonged to them because it wasnt cashed in. All because they wasnt paying attention to there surroundings and let there guard down. ;)

Never been outpost camped and I've been playing for months, and i dont think i have ever had a conversation with a pioneer or player who has had the game since the early days who has either.

  • @avecrux not judging or whining. Just if you look at most PvP intensive MMO's you will find a "common" play style that you can define. At 53 I have old hound like reflexes. I actually read La Morte d'Arthur. I saw Star Wars at 13 in 1977. My first computer fantasy game was Beneath Apple Manor on an Apple II ( which we spent $250-$300 to upgrade to 64K, yes K memory to play it ). I enjoy gaming and so using that 45+ years of gaming on computers and console platforms and watching game evolution, I can honestly say there are 3 maybe 4 styles of playing games. It was just a post to see how people would think of themselves as players within a limited scope of base playstyles I have encountered. No offense intended.

  • im a chill pirate focuse on quests , i would never attack other pirates i prefer to be friendy but if u attack me, i attack u;)

  • The Admiral
    Certain personages of players who
    will strap themself's in gallant
    officer's sunday finest. Insist
    self-assuredly on being
    correct &always have the
    final word. Ne'er listen to
    reason, oblivious to advice
    from experienced crewes.

    ('Tis not me orignal character'y stick;
But begot &thieving it as such; from the
    right honorable, who's very own
    name is his epithet:
    @Seminole-Chief )

  • Don't forget the most important Pirates: The Booty Inspectors.

Now you may be wondering to yourself "Oi! Why ye scalawags takin' me hard earned loot that me n' me lads just pried off the bloody corpses of the fools who'd done all the hard work for us!?!"

Well my Grog-breathed buddy, we are authorized "Booty Inspectors" so it's our jobs to check that chest for traps just in case you had overlooked any.

See, as a Booty Inspector, it's our job, NAY our duty! To keep your lives as far away from unexpected harm. So we simply take your treasure, take it over to the Inspector and voila! Off your hands and safely put away for safe keeping!

  • @dannytrexbang 'nary risk means 'nary reward. I'll haul me own booty I be wearing a back brace ( of pistols ) and travel with kindest of blood thirsty skallywags for support ( well more like fire support ).

  • @knifelife said in I see 3 types of Pirates:

LOL I love this one. In my 160 hours of test play and not once was I outpost camped. Both solo and with crew. Because of the following reasons.

-keep our eyes way in the horizon looking for ships and glare from objects. If the ship is close. Move on.
-sail around the outpost and make sure its clear
-when not playing solo send someone to inspect said island to make sure its safe
-keep a look out well cashing in and don't leave your anchor down.

-And most important. when your gut says sail to next one. Follow your gut.

  • @oldsk00l1964 And you have @maximillianzeus, the Damn Rider of the Ferry :D

  • @jcmdeadpool @Oldsk00L1964
