Please don't overfeminize female characters (without an option at least!)

  • As the title says. I've just seen an update that female-only animations have been added. I definitely identify myself as a woman that I've been born as, but I'm also not what is considered feminine and I would prefer not to be locked into playing a male to avoid cringing. Make feminine movement an option, please. :)

  • @bely44l They could make an option to choose your character's personality which would affect their animations. But I'm pretty sure 99.9% of players couldn't care less...

I wouldn't generalize that way but I understand the sentiment.

That being said, through my time on these forums and by observing the development of the game through the different media outlets, I can safely say that Rare is being extra careful to offer as much diversity as possible in the game. It's refreshing!

That's true, but I thought so with Battlerite and then they gone full fanservice. I hope Rare is going to be indeed Rare and remember of the other half of humanity. Then again, you being an Pioneer is kinda helpful as you've seen much more. Thanks. ^^

  • @bely44l

    Battlerite, fanservice? What?

  • @darlain Jade.

  • overfeminize a female???
i dont know what is going with the world.
when you say that some character that already is female has being "overfeminize" you say: some girls(not all) have this type of personality(overfeminized) and thats is offensive(for you). a character could be feminine because of her personality, i'm NOT saying one character or maybe all characters should be a princess type but... a characters like lara croft(tomb raider), Elizabeth swan(Pirates of the caribean) would be a good start when thinking of feminine characters.

  • basically the complaint here is that forcing females to act feminine is wrong....

  • @bely44l you think that jade is fan service?

    that is fan service

  • @kruqnut yep... i think that making 1 in 4 female character that have a man like personality will be perfect.
but i still dont know what is "overfeminize"

  • @bely44l that is fan service too

  • well the females will probably curtsey, some females want to bow like men, i dunno, can't please everyone.

  • Ashka makes you burn!
On topic, I think all pirates will have the same unisex animations. However you can make your pirate look however you want, so if you want to make a delicate flower or a manly musclebabe, you can. I'm looking forward to see your creation and the rest of players.

  • @dragotech123 in the game you can't customize your body type (just hair) only cloths.

  • @bely44l That isn't fanservice at all, there are much worse cases.

  • I agree that having options for different types of personalities/animations would be nice (for both men and women) but likely not going to happen.

That being said, if females are left with the 'standard' female animations, this isn't necessarily "overfeminizing" them, it's just "feminizing" them in general.

As I said, I've seen a patch note saying they added a seprate animation for females. Also, most females I've seen move the same as men (apart from intenational "sexy" movement or on heels, but dudes would walk the same if they wore heels and I doubt we have them in game). I'm scared we are going to end up with weird hip movement. :/

  • @bely44l
men and women are anatomically different, which is reflected in their movements, including "weird hip movements."

  • @h0rse I guess I'm not a female then because despite my wide hips, they do not sway unless I do it on purpose. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
I went as far as walking around my room because I thought I'm indeed the crazy for a moment. Still nothing.

  • @bely44l most females move the same as men but...
yeah we know... they dont "move" the same as men. most of the woman move different because of their hip and mass distribution, men(most) have more mass in they uper body and they not do a "hip moviment" when they move.

  • Dont know if you noticed but some of those female characters looking pretty hench 😂😂😂. Ya I get it though be nice to have voice play around so I can make a really fat strong pirate with a soft voice 😂😂😂.

Or a tiny pirate with a very strong voice! I'm all up for the freedom of choice. Still, I doubt we will get any voice lines if even voice selection and if so... it's going to be a wide selection of "UGH!"s and "AH!"s. ;)

  • @bely44l I will just have to put on a voice in game chat.

I have a pretty plastic voice so I could go with a dude with anime girl voice. I'm so hyped for the final release. q.q

How dare you be realistic and logical. This is the 21st century western culture where everything is up for grabs !

    This guy gets it...

If you were to have a 2 identical characters walking side-by-side, with one mo-capped by a man and the other by a woman, most people would be able to tell which one which.

Sure, you can "overfeminize" this by exaggerating the movements, but even without that, simply taking a male animations and applying them to a female model, would come off awkward, because men and women (generally) do not move the same, unless you're talking about overly feminine men or masculine women.

Seeing how this is a video game, I'm sure the female animations are going to differ enough to differentiate themselves from their male counterparts. There will likely be distinct differences (which still doesn't necessarily mean "over-feminizing" anything) since we are talking about men and women, and not men and tomboys.

  • @bely44l ya I managed to get 3 of my friends on deck with this game so will be good banter. I have no idea how a plastic voice sounds like but I'm assuming if I hear barbie in the distance il know ul be coming.

Plastic voice means I can do a wider range of sounds. If you hear Knuckles noise, that'd be me. I find making noises to be better to distract enemies. :p

  • @bely44l you will never find me because you do not know the way

  • @cavemansamurai That's true. I forgot to check the map and I swam onto the red water thinking it's a cool curse-like event. :|

  • @bely44l atleast its better than me consistantly telling my friends to go northwest when I meant northeast. facepalm or circling an italian couple for 10minutes trying to shoot eachother and failing miserably.

  • @cavemansamurai I keep starting with East/West instead of South/North and people get angry over it, but IMA GOING EAST SOUTH and no one is going to stop me. :3

  • @h0rse i still don't know how "overfeminize" a character
if you put massive" booty" and a big bust its just a "fan service"(same for men without shirt)
i don't know what you mean by overfeminize

It wasn't my term, it was hers. It's in the topic title.

    Going off her own words:

"Overfeminized" animations isn't her problem, it's feminine animations in general.

I also don't know why playing as a male would make her cringe.

  • @h0rse but i still don't know what kind of thing is overfeminine
