Forced Respawn on Boat if Your Boat Sank

  • Last night my friend TheKoolEagle and I had a bit of a frustrating experience. We got engaged in a battle with another boat trying to get to the island to finish our voyage. They were parked at the island. During the first scuffle we were sunk and respawned nearby, returning to continue our battle and retrieve our one stolen chest that they had stolen from us.

When we got back we defeated them but instead of taking their merman respawn they grabbed as much of their loot as they could and dragged it to shore, hiding it in various bushes and such. We then proceeded to kill them 3-4 times as they tried to board our boat but eventually they managed to take us down once. When they did that, they immediately crashed our boat into the island, sinking it.

So now they have no boat, we have no boat, there's a bunch of treasure chests on the beach. We all respawned I presume and Keagle and I raced back to the island and snagged all the loot we could before skedaddling. So eventually we were the winners but it took a really long time because despite having sunk their boat and killed them more than once, they just refused to go to their own boat and kept fighting us.

Seems to me that if your boat is sunk and your crew has all died there's no reason to keep respawning in the water next to the merman so that you can give grief to the people who sank you. Just spawn directly onto your new boat instead.

Still having a blast but it was frustrating to hit that little rough edge.

  • I agree with this 100%...Once your boat is gone you should not be able to spawn in the area anymore. It is like a battle that you can never win. This is especially annoying if you have something to do on that particular island because you can never get rid of them long enough to do anything.

  • Changing the respawn so that respawning without a boat is the same as having activated the mermaid for a new boat seeeeeeems like it wouldn't have any downsides? There doesn't seem to be any point to respawning where your boat sank except for revenge.

I suppose if you had a bunch of chests to dig up on an island while another crewmember brought the ship over? But that seems fairly minor.

Either way, while I have not had this happen to me it does seem rather unfortunate.

  • I was just about to post this same thing. I had to kill a crew 4 times before pleading with them to just take a mermaid to a new ship because I was feeling bad about spawn killing them but I had to protect the treasure I had rightfully "borrowed" from them.

  • @sircolby45 I just can't come up with any legitimate reason other than to try and grief the people who took out your boat. Even respawning at a nearby island and sailing back gives a little bit of time to grab stuff and get out of there. Otherwise it's just a constant slog until someone gives up.

  • @surfpossum What people do is have one crew member waste time attacking the ship that sank them until the rest of the crew come with a new ship. The attacking players have to counter play because it doesn't matter how many times they kill the other pirates.

Oh, I understand the use of it when it comes to trying to kill the people who sank your boat (also, once a new ship is spawned they won't be able to spawn at the mermaid anymore, no? I think this tactic relies on nobody in the crew spawning a new ship). I meant I can't think of any uses other than that.

If your ship is sunk, it feels wrong to be able to spawn in over and over again at the mermaid to harass the people who sank your ship. And I can't think of any other reason to keep spawning in on the mermaid rather than in a new ship.

Basically, if you die you should spawn on the ship. If there is no ship, you should spawn in on a new one.

  • It can also be unenjoyable for the team re-spawning next to their sunken ship. It only allows the other team to kill you more. I'd much rather stay on the Ferry of the Damned in order to spawn back on my fresh ship rather than get thrown back into shark-infested water.

  • @frostycrypton Yeah definitely, I got killed once just trying to get to the merman with all the sharks and gunfire about.
