Bilge rat doubloons have been neglected as a currency in recent years. Once the go-to currency for unlocking limited-time cosmetics, they’re now mostly used to purchase old seasonal items.
I’m not here to lecture Rare about the potential of the great smuggler black-market accords. However, I do think it’s time to rebalance how doubloons are earned while also turning smugglers into a worthy faction. These two problems could actually solve each other.
Gifts and tomes? I’ve come across only one gift in the last three months. When they were first introduced, you could find them washed up on random islands, and there was even a voyage that rewarded them. Now, with skeleton ships carrying smuggler loot, finding ashen chests or gifts has become nearly impossible.
And the Bilge Rats? Do they even exist anymore? Their commendation tab has been rebranded as "Adventures at Sea." What happened?
We're at a strange crossroads where old content lingers, but only as a shadow of its former self. I think the solution is to make Bilge Rat doubloons the primary currency for smugglers and allow gifts and tomes to be sold at their hideouts. Include gifts, ashen chests, and tomes in the smuggler loot pool, and, for goodness' sake, make smuggler loot sellable for doubloons.
Lastly, bring back gift voyages, ashen chest voyages, and ashen key voyages as smuggler voyages.
