Your preferred play method....I'll start.

  • There are so many things to do in this game, but the way I like to play most often is to raise my Guild Flag and just explore the islands. I have this "rule" that I have to follow the breadcrumbs, so if I find bottle quests, I have to do those. If I find Smuggler's loot, I have to return that. Cargo runs. Attack nearby Skelly ships. You get the idea. I like the whole randomness of the day.

What is your preferred method of play. What brings you back day after day?

Do whatever comes my way. Same as you me says, bottle do it. Shipwreck sail to it. If it’s something on my path I’ll sail to it even if I have to sail off my path.

Or find a ship not my own and stowaway

  • Commendation grinding and avoiding hourglass at all cost. Got the curses but the mode is too nerve breaking for me since I am basically forced to play solo due to my job schedule and family stuff.

  • It was to raise the emissary flag and run voyages while trying to complete accommodations and unlock emissary specific cosmetics. Also, either join up or solo a world events if no one is around, but mostly explore. However, that was mostly replaced with being chased by players who just want a PVP, get sunk, dive to a new server, only to be chased down again by a different crew… Rinse, repeat. No rep, no gold, just wasted time.

  • @rikjaxx hourglass and tdming are my mainstays, but I do enjoy voting up guild then going and doing world events, fotd, veil, and some other stuff, pretty much loot maxing so that people will come fight me, and if no one does then I get some gold. I also spend a lot of time grinding older commendations (Legend of the SoT was my last major one)

  • @rocksinclair I've only ever play TDM in that one zone many seasons back, where multiple crews could enter and compete to get the tasks done. I have to admit, except for the spawn camping, that zone was some of the most fun I've ever had in SoT. The total chaos without the risk of losing loot was blast. Rare should bring back that option as a new zone again.

  • @rikjaxx its really fun, if you can find some chill people in the community to ease you into it, its definitely a huge skill gap between first timers and regulars.

  • I usually start by looking at comms and seeing if anything is close to being done, then focus on that for a bit.

If I need Emissary Ledger for a reward, I'll do that.

Island-hopping is also a common playstyle for me. But I'm fairly prone to getting distracted by whatever takes my fancy at any given time.

Very much living the Bilge Rat lifestyle.

My sessions are almost always based on the map. If something interesting presents itself I/we will do that. As a solo I usually cruise around with guild emissary doing world events, solo time is also usually when I’ll pursue some random commendation I want, like a tall tale towards shores of gold if I get the motivation for it. My emissary is almost always reaper or guild, and occasionally no emissary at all if I really just want to be left alone to do something random like a tall tale. It’s really very easy to be left alone in this game despite all of the desperate emotional stories we see on the forums.

I have a handful of people I play with and my sessions are often based on their preference. Some just do HG, most do a little bit of everything. We often cruise around as reaper and play pirates.

I’ll grind for anything I like, there just aren’t many things I’m currently motivated to grind for. I still need some burning blade 8 streaks for the onyx bones, and I still need like 25% of the shores of gold tall tales for the gold curse. I’ll get double HG gold eventually but that doesn’t really feel like a grind because I enjoy fights on demand. I/we do HG almost every session, sometimes for the entire session.

In short, I’m a pirate with various goals and amusements.

  • Comms hunting with duo, usually look for fofs or hourglass with random bits thrown in for variety

  • I've been having fun comm hunting because it has exposed me to ways of playing the game I hadn't thought about. As well, hourglass has been really fun. I'm 1/3 of the way to gold bones and every double XP event I earn about 30 levels a day. Done a lot of fishing, a lot of stealing, a lot of burning, and a lot of rituals. Still so many more things to do.

  • @potatosord What is comm hunting?

  • @rikjaxx Commendation hunting. You do the commendations.

  • @rikjaxx It doesn't matter how you play as long as you are having fun. Do your thing, write your own story in SOT!
