Sea of Thieves – New PvP Game Modes

  • New PvP Game Modes

I would love to see new PvP game modes added to Sea of Thieves. Currently, we only have the Hourglass mode, which is ship vs. ship combat, and while it's fun, it can start to feel repetitive over time. It would be great to have alternative PvP modes that also contribute progression to the Servants of the Flame and Guardians of Fortune factions.

Ideas such as defending or attacking a fort, a last-man-standing mode with multiple ships or players, or even a team deathmatch on an island could bring fresh and exciting experiences to the game. These modes could reward XP for the faction you represent, just like the current PvP system, and I believe they would attract both new players and veterans who may have taken a break from the game.

Most importantly, these features could potentially be added without the need to introduce any new items—just new game modes, similar to how voyages are structured in the current game.

To summarize the PvP modes I’d love to see added:

    Fort defense/assault mode

Last man standing (ships or players)

Team deathmatch / free-for-all deathmatch on islands

Capture the Flag or Capture the Treasure (the flag/treasure could be a chest of fortune, box of wondrous secrets or a Chest of Legends, or any other themed loot)

I truly believe these additions would greatly enrich the PvP experience and add more depth to faction progression in Sea of Thieves. Thank you for your continued support of the game!

  • Would be cool, but doubt it'll ever happen. One of the biggest reasons they chopped arena was due to server costs, which is also why hourglass battles happen in regular adventure servers.

Also don't think these modes should share rewards/xp with HG. HG is a competitive 1v1 mode, these modes are more arcade-like/casual.

  • Imagine how good a capture the flag game mode would be with each team being a team of around 6 players, and each teams flag is at the top of a ghost fort. That would be awesome to have fort to fort combat.

  • Open world and adventure will always be number 1
And if these “modes” don’t fit, they won’t be added.

  • Hourglass rewards are locked to hourglass because if they weren't then no one would play hourglass. If you don't like it, you don't have to play it.
