Suggestion: Mobile Canons? No Problem—Add a Skeleton Crew Member to Assist Solo Players

  • With mobile cannons coming next season, solo play is going to get even tougher—especially when trying to escape PvP. It’s already hard enough juggling repairs, sailing, and fighting alone, and this new feature could make it nearly impossible.

Would love to see a small QoL addition for solo players: a skeleton crewmate. Nothing crazy, just a basic helper that can do simple tasks like:

Patch a hole every now and then

    Bail a bit of water

Maybe reload a cannon if it’s empty

Help raise the anchor (especially helpful for brigantine solo players)

Not asking for a full AI teammate, just a little support to make solo play more manageable. Could even be a fun cosmetic or reward—different skeleton types, outfits, etc. Give a large cooldown between duties, like he slips and breaks his arm, then tries to put it back in place as he stumbles around.

Feels like a fair way to help solo players without breaking balance. What do you all think?

  • As a solo sloop main I personally hate the idea of having an npc on my ship to help me it only takes a few times playing the game to get used to handling the ship in a battle

That said I wouldn't be opposed to the idea of an object on the ship that gives the option to spawn an npc

Do NOT force me to not play solo as I closed my crew on purpose!

Solo play is as option..... you can play with a friend, open your crew, ask on social media or look through looking for group pages on the Xbox app but to take the option of playing solo away from solo players is wrong on all fronts! we set sail solo for the hardcore experience if you want solo play without pvp there's safer seas!

Skeletons do not bail water by design, canons should only be loaded if being fired you don't want to have to unload a cannon to fire yourself out, hence why I closed my crew in the first place lol

  • @CptCLAPZ who said anything about forced? It will obviously be optional. Could be you purchase it, then place at the ship, once clicked skelly gets summoned. And like I said, make him slower at everything, with a chance to lose an arm etc. so that A.I. could never truly replace a real player, just to help a little.

All those things are easy to do as a solo slooper. Mobile Canon won't affect combat too much.

There's a lot of negatives to using it, cool down, blowing up when hit, maybe other things. Maybe aiming with it is harder too.

Who knows, it's too early to tell how it will affect gameplay. Probably be a novalty more than anything. I still have not seen any enemy players using spears in combat, rarely see blow darts etc...

But NPCs helping with boat duties on sloops, brigs and galleons, I hope that will never happen!

  • @captdirtyoar Tell me why you wouldn't want that. They are already adding skeletons that will help you carry loot etc. and a crew member skeleton would be much worse than a real player anyway.

  • @vorpalicious skeletons to help carry loot? This seems like wasted resources! Rare what the hell!
I don't want ai to help me with anything if I need help I open my crew or put up an lfg

  • @cptclapz You're being hyperbolic, lol. There's literally no harm done if they add stuff that help solo players that tend to PvE and avoid PvP. You still get wrecked if you go to areas where PvP happens, A.I. crew member or not, this is all just to speed things up a little. The mobile cannon is an addition for PvP players, to make it easier for them to get you down, why not throw PvE players a bone too? Trust me, we exist.

  • @vorpalicious as I said safer seas was created for pve players, there are no areas where pvp happens in high seas pvp can happen anywhere on the map if I hit grade 5 reaper n I see you in the roar I'm coming there.... we're pirates it's what we do ask Google,
by sailing solo into high seas you are essentially choosing hardcore mode, I recall hearing that from a dev in an interview on YouTube some years back

Solo pve'rs were given a whole mode to play

People need help to carry loot in game? What the hell, where did you hear that?

Getting loot onto your ship is easy solo. Too many solo players need to learn how to do things better like managing their boat, parking in good spots, especially those that don't keep an on the horizon for enemy ships.

  • @captdirtyoar exactly!

  • Help raise the anchor (especially helpful for brigantine solo

I'm sorry but this is the dumbest thing I've ever heard you cannot successfully sail a brig solo sure you can load in and sail around but to suggest that you solo a brig on any level other than just sailing is just ridiculous!

Duo brig is hardcore mode as it is trust me we do it quite often

The sloop wasn't designed with solos in mind attempting to solo a brig is just foolish and then suggesting you have ai to help you? Just sail a sloop there's a way around that everything you have suggested would be a waste if resources (time and money) to suit 0.001% of the player base jeez

  • @captdirtyoar It's being added in the next update, skeleton allies, helping you carry loot is one of the things they can do. I based my idea on that. I think my idea is solid, since it's a severely nerfed crew member, it wouldn't break anything.

@CptCLAPZ And calm down Captain Clapz, it's just an idea, it can't hurt you, and managing the resources is something that's up to Rare. They did add the skeleton that will carry loot, so I don't think the players liking stuff like that are such a minority.

  • @look-behind-you my bad it was nice playing ur game but I think I'm done

  • @cptclapz Definitely not my game but fair winds! 👋

  • @look-behind-you you are a forum moderator therefore you represent RARE here

  • Or, find yourself a crew mate?

Or, find yourself a crew mate?

Yep I agree, too many things are being made too easy and it will affect multiplayer crews, dumbing play down!

It's not hard for one player to handle it all themselves on a sloop. Last night I played four hours solo which I rarely do, had scraps with other boats, got krakened and a skeleton ship at same time, was at no risk of sinking. Gathered 380k in loot from various quests and got it on my boat with no issue. Chased a couple times by players and survived.

NPC helpers are just going to ruin the experiance for players, they should be learning to run the boat and do quests in a organised way. It has no place for High Seas for sure!

  • Does this additional skeleton crew help galleon crews as well? Because if a solo sloop didn't bother purchasing one yet this gally crew did, oof!
Also with the amount of bugs in the game, I'm hesitant about having an NPC to carry loot for me.

Cuz skeletons are more annoying than Taylor Swift (sorry swifties).

I think they represent keeping people like you from crashing out bro.

  • So OP wants skeleton crewmates to do the easy stuff for them while they sail solo

No go for me. Because that opens a lot of doors. Frankly Rare needs to do something about solo play. Make it feasible yet still “not recommended “ and as well encourage more random crew creation’s.

With this skeleton crew OP is wanting. What stopping you from boarding and leaving your ship in the hands of a skeleton? Keeping you afloat and such while your off boarding a ship?

Once that carrot is given. People will ask for more. Skeletons that fire your cannons, steer your ship, raise anchor, drop. Etc. more more more.

From what we know so far, and revealed. Skeletons help carry loot. Doesn’t say anything what they do with it. Do they bring it to your ship? Do they carry it and nothing else?
