sunken treasury spawn camp problem

    some jerk killed me mid-way through a sunken treasury mission and then spawn camped outside the arena and i could not escape or exit the loop. I scuttled my ship, but continued to respawn in the same location outside the arena. This was a real downer and obnoxious.

    possible solutions:

    1. spawn camping limits. ( deaths by the same player in the same location in a certain timeframe counter ... etc )
    2. randomization for respawn locations in the treasury
    3. an option on the ship of the damned to be respawned at a different random island on a different sever after scuttling your ship.
    4. no jerks allowed

    Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't scuttling and changing seas (the first scuttle option) essentially achieve the third scenario? Once the ship is scuttled, it should merge you to an outpost on a new server but you keep your active voyages. If it's not doing that and continuing to spawn you in the treasury on the same server that feels unintentional.

    As said before you have 2 options.
    Scuttle and change seas, which would spawn you at another server on the outpost.
    Open a new ship. (takes longer)

    There isnt much space infront of the arena in the Treashury and i guess rare doesnt want to spawn us into the pve enemies.
    So there arent many options for different spawns down there.

    Is it reportable though ? Never saw that in the rules; reportable is, AFAIK spawncamping on their ship while not letting their ship sink. Letting them go back to their ship in this case gives them the opportunity to sink the spawn camper's ship.

    The spawn camper might have a crewmate who is trying to finish the Treasury and the spawncamping might stop when all the treasure is on board their ship and they're a safe distance from the victim.

    This is a very rare scenario to happen and we don't really know why it happened.

    People get to use their report tool how they see fit but imo people too often look for reasons to report people or call something toxic over gameplay. Assuming the worst, not giving benefit of the doubt, and looking to use it as a reason to make changes to the game.

    Personally I welcome stuff like that because it adds something random and new to the adventure. If I get out of it then that's a cool/funny outcome and if I don't at least it breaks up the monotony of the pve grind.

    There are types of camping that Rare doesn't like but imo it's all easy to move on from and none of it is really a big deal. I don't say that as someone that does it to others, I say that as someone that has mostly been the solo getting camped in a lot of different ways. Conduct while doing it is what can make it toxic imo. The camping itself is whatever.

    I've always seen the focus on nit picking camping as being pretty silly in SoT. If I naval someone and am winning it's every bit as intense as it is for me if they camp me. Might not lose the boat in the same way or have the same intent but it's a similar outcome in the end.

    We don't even know how experienced the person that did it actually is. For all we know this was a big win for them in SoT.

    I dunno what the situation was or wasn't but in general I think that the culture of SoT leans way too heavily into turning encounters into negative storytelling. If people aren't saying hateful stuff or engaging in foul conduct just about everything can be turned into a tale of quality adventure. Losing is the only reason winning is rewarding. That applies to encounters with other people as much as it does treasure.

    Have to keep in mind that most casual players don't understand all the mechanics that Rare has in place

    It's possible that they went down there to contest you for the event, but after killing you, did not understand why you kept coming back.

    Without seeing video of the encounter, it's just as easy to assume that they were being toxic as it is to assume they were equally as disappointed by the encounter as you were.

    I just tested this quickly and you do keep any active quest table voyage, as well as any emergent voyages you pick up (such as from an island captain). The voyages you would lose would be an Emissary Grade 5 Voyage (because you lose your flag) and any voyage specific to the server (such as the Skull of Siren Song).

    You keep them if you scuttle.

    I understand your frustration. If I had been in your shoes, I would've not engaged with this person, and simply logged out to switch servers. They're looking to get a rise out of you, and if you don't engage, you ruin their fun.

    -Spawn-camping limits wouldn't work for a game like this. If you couldn't kill each other, what's left to do, stand there and wait? How would this work on ships/in hourglass, etc.?

    -Treasuries only have 1 small "safe" room you respawn in. Having other locations in this small room, wouldn't work. You also can't spawn inside the treasury, in case you're fighting underwater and now spawning there (and risking black screens) would be a nightmare.

    -This has the ability to be abused.

    -You call them jerks, when they're just doing what the game allows them to do. In my opinion, this person was rather foolish, as he should've waited for you on your ship to collect your treasure first, but got impatient, and decided to TDM you instead.

    You're so upset by this person interrupting your attempt to get treasure. Imagine if you had completed the treasury, was harpooning your loot, and suddenly you're dead and they come around and sink you? I've had that happen to me one time before I learned better tactics.

    Scutteling never erased your voyages.

    Why would it be reportable? If that's reportable then attacking players doing all other missions would be reportable also. It's all part of the risk of the game.

    Best thing to do is one player stay on the ship and drive off, that way no one knows your down there. Keeping the ship parked up top is the reason why you get targeted.

    When I'm on a sloop I normally go down to the shrine/treasury and do it myself while someone on the the boat goes off and does something easy like a sea fort or grab an orb. Double up then, it is pretty flawless, once I finish I tell my partner and he comes back to get the loot and me...

    He's not talking about just attacking, but about deliberate spawncamping. That has always been reportable, since it's considered herrassing. The only 'spawncamping' that is allowed is to secure a sink (also because that is just for a short while, since it has a clear ending with the ship sinking and it's often necessary for that goal. Other types of spawncamping are not necessary and therefore only meant to grief and herrass)

    Most people play solo though, so for a lot of players that is not even an option.

    Another thing OP could have done in this situation is to disconnect from the game (alt-f4 on PC or e.g. remove internet connection) and then rejoin the session; this would get the player back on their ship - hopefully the spawncamper thinks you're just hanging out on the Ferry o/t Damned for a longer time.

    Because you’re fighting someone in an area they’ll always come back to and can’t escape from, which no intention of sinking the person you’re fighting.
