Hackers ruining Hourglass

  • The past couple of nights a regular Brig crew and I that do hourglass have come across a lot of hackers. They tend to have their ship parked at Port Merrick or some island and just TDM hack and spawn camp. Keeping our ship repaired once they send us all to the ferry and then sinking us after camping is for about 15 minutes or so.

Reporting on the surface doesn't seem like it does much and makes it feel like the issue isn't getting resolved.

They teleport everywhere and hit all of their Sniper Shots from unbelievable distances too. I understand that there a ton of skilled players that could pull off shots like this but an entire crew players with under 20 hours played? Before it was the occasional hacker but lately it's been every other hourglass match this occurs.

I understand Rare is taking steps to counteract ban evasions but I'm afraid if they don't expedite the process Hourglass participants are going to be at an all time low. It's sort of that way already and this issue may just be the final nail in the coffin.

It's rough on the Hourglass seas and it's not enjoyable at all.

I'm really just here to blow off steam and share my frustrations, call it complaining about the state of things because yes that is exactly what I'm doing because I'm fed up with it.

When you report someone and Rare takes action, it gets added to a statistic of how many players they have permanently suspended from the game for cheating. When that number is very high it means they need to take action on the matter. When the statistic is low then it means the action they are taking to counter cheaters is working.

You may think that reporting isn't doing much but the more legitimate reports that head to Rare means more needs to be done to combat cheaters. cheaters are always finding new way to circumvent systems put in place to prevent them. I made a post previously to someone who also had the same issue as you in which I state it is just an arms race between Rare and cheaters.

In addition to this, presumably their new ban evasion mitigation should make reporting better than ever.

Report every single cheater nerd for the win.

  • Tell me about it. Yesterday out of my ~25 solo games i got cheaters 8-9 times, one asked me to duo, two of them i beat by running until they gave up / got banned, and for all the reports, hours later you get that "further proof is needed for them using aiming exploits", like... I'm not going to record my games because you can't log game activity you know... the burden of proof is not actually on the regular players in any game that's actually trying to do something about this.

I have to ask, why just these locations. Why are they defending and choosing these places.

What your saying is, it just Hourglass?

  • Same here today, and fed up... 3 out of 4 hourglass were hackers. Reported, 2 out of 3 are already banned according to their answer (with videos provided). Done with it until the next update (fingers crossed).
