Tons of good suggestiosn from PhuzzyBond, especially Guild Wars

  • It's about this video he made.

I hope I'm not the only one who would love to have something like Guild Wars in the game?

I can see this being a ton of fun to have basically hg battles with other guilds, and have multiple boats from both guilds involved.

  • I agree that they need to stop releasing new stuff and work with the mechanics they have. They need to revamp features in order to give them more sense in the game. Guilds, Hourglass, World Events and Quest Table could be reworked.
I wouldn't mind if Rare did another Developer Update to say they are going to take a break from releasing new content and work on existing one. However, I'm certain Rare has already thought about this but they are not doing it because of how over reactive SoT community is in terms of complaining about anything.

  • The reason that guilds are irrelevant outside of the bubbles of elitism that they feed into is because they don't do anything for the players that they should be designed for.

Hg needs to be more fun and improved for HG players that wanna HG.

Guilds need to be more fun and improved for players that don't have a bunch of connections and aren't cliqued up around the community.

Neither of these things can really be fixed by leaning more into the other. Especially on the guild side because a lot of people don't like contrived combat and that won't change.

Imo a big part of the problem with HG is that they are so attached to "Arena is dead and buried" that they will likely never implement the parts of arena that would make HG more fun to participate in.

It wasn't Arena that was unpopular, it was contrived combat, and they carried that over to adventure. They left out the good and brought the unpopular, that's the real issue with HG. It just makes HG worse to act like Arena didn't work out for being Arena. It didn't work out because people are far more often here for the adventure sandbox.

  • We will see a lot of people leaving Guilds. Guilds are more a social group for friends.
Once you start adding battles to them, people are gonna wanna join only the Strong guilds with high count win rates.
I never trust Phuzzy, he a creator wanting content and he isn't getting any. xD

  • @burnbacon
Currently the only thing Guilds give you is the ability to unlock accommodations. Managing your guild is very lack luster as you can't keep track if who is active and who is not. It needs a rework on several levels and guild wars seems a logical choice.

You could argue the same goes for hourglass, you only want to sail with crew who are as good as you or better. So sure, join a guild with high win rates but you will get paired against guides with simlarly high win rates. OR assihn Points in HG and guild wars following something like this formula. X + (Y/Z) X = base reward value. Y = your crews collective HG ranking, Z = other crews collective HG ranking. This way if a high ranked crew stomps a low rank crew the reward is lower.

Why not trust Phuzzy? I would say a creator who spends a ton of time playing the game and chatting to his followers about it is bound to come up with some great ideas and a butch of good ones. More over he has a vested interest in the game doing well.

  • @miserenz why not to trust content creator?

Becouse and I hardly say that @BurnBacon has right. They are content creator and they are creating content, this is their job so they pov will allways be biased toward making their work easier or better - and that mostly contatory to base game health.

Sorry to break it for you but viewers are only consuments and/or products for streamers.

  • @ghutar

You have not explained how it is contrary to the base game health at all. Just stated it as if its a fact and moved on. I do not see that connection at all so please explain with the best clear, objective example of what you are arguing or why Phuzzt is "untrustworthy" which suggests he is being deceitful.

However, I do see the clear link between a healthy game and the content creators doing well. It is very obvous that if the game is healthy with good content, people will watch streamers to pick up tips and tricks and enjoy watching them. If the content looks like fun to do, this will also bring in new players who will want to have a go themselves. This argument is both sound and valid while also being antithetical to what both of you have said.

  • @miserenz

Paragrahp 1 - read again post as it not mentioning specific character just general trend.
Paragahp 2 - or not as you kinda allready run
and evaluate whole disscusion with yourself.

If you want to belive that content creator (or to be honest enyone else, you and me included) ideas are not set in their bias bubble then its on you and its ok.

Their bubble is most time highly unorganic gameplay so anathema to avrege casual player experience around with most syststem was build on before diving start be a thing.

Last super fun idea pushed by CCs was proximity block on selling Burning Blade cuse they had hard time to catch slowest ship in the game.

  • Good suggestions don't need a name drop...

  • @burnbacon

I never trust Phuzzy, he a creator wanting content and he isn't getting any. xD

So every content creator that doesn't glaze the game shouldn't be trusted with this logic, unless of course your joking/being sarcastic.

Once you start adding battles to them, people are gonna wanna join only the Strong guilds with high count win rates.

By nature you will have people that would do that, but it's also dependent on WHO is in the guild in the first place and who they let in/kick out due to behavior.
I also like to compare this to what Sea of Thieves PvP competitions had in the past, You had a few who would drop everyone to join the best crew if they had the opportunity, yet you had real ones that stuck with each other and reached victories because of it.

We will see a lot of people leaving Guilds. Guilds are more a social group for friends.

Like they are intended to be, yes.

Problem with guilds is that gatekeeping effect, but the biggest ISSUE really is the lack of actual social foundations. It's all done in menus, there's no special hideout for guilds (Think Arena Tavern, or Pirate Hideout but for guilds)
where different guilds can meet up and battle it out. Joining guilds is word of mouth from mutual friends, guilds are also not taken seriously and Moreso: I want to sail on this cool looking ship with the rare cosmetics on.

Imho I think people got past guilds pretty fast and is sadly not a feature that really sticks out as something awesome that it COULD of been.
When you joined a ''prestigious'' guild with big namers, just to see in this day and age 80% of those people have quit/left the game entirely, nobody cares...

  • @ghutar

Parah 1. Still an assertion not an argument.
Parah 2. Thats called an argument backing my postion. Ball is in your court to do the same and/or show why my arugment is wrong.

As for your example it was not just the CC who thought that and the change was a goodone. It was something my crew thought should be the case before Rare made the change, so count that one in the for column. Got another?

  • @ghutar said

Becouse and I hardly say that @BurnBacon has right. They are content creator and they are creating content, this is their job so they pov will allways be biased toward making their work easier or better -

How does that make any sense in Phuzzy's case in this particular instance, (OPs thread) he could stick to making basic tutorials which is what made him popular in the get go.
Coming up with ideas for how the game could be improved is putting in the extra work.
God forbid anyone suggestion ideas to the game or they are labelled as Biased for their work. Phuzzy isn't dumb, he knows he won't see any substantial growth even if this game magically got better overnight with all his suggestions... They are merely updates and QoL changes to existing content... and NOT new content.

and that mostly contatory to base game health.

Did you even watch the video this post is related to? Sure there might be some side affects that cannot be seen because of drastic change, then again we are talking about RARE/ Sea of Thieves where a simple item such as a bear trap comes with bugs and exploits, but let's look at the grandiose picture here instead... So your right in that aspect I guess.

I also think Phuzzy's suggestion video is a waste of time in reality, and mostly just a ThinkTank brain massage exercise of ''what if's'', most of his suggestions would be classified as 2 whole new seasons worth of content for RARE's standards let's be honest.

If RARE cared that much about improving guilds, they should and would of done it by now, instead they chuck stuff at the game praying it sticks, same thing with Hourglass, release it, do the bare minimum of updates and never look back afterwards, and maybe revisit it years later when they feel like it.
Next season with the Hunters call is a prime example of this behavior, how many people and how long have suggestions about that faction have been mentioned literally years ago, that could have been small updates spread across the years? Right, and they decide to package that and call it a season, and people buy into it and get hype of them doing the bare minimum, ewww...

Sorry to break it for you but viewers are only consuments and/or products for streamers.

Once you get to that stage, sure, viewers are literally the essence for how they make their living off from, Phuzzy also explained perfectly how small SoT streamers are (Even the biggest ones) in comparison to other streamers for other games.
No one is reaching the 1k viewer mark, that's a low tier streamer in other big games in comparison whereas in SoT, if you have 1k Live viewers, you are at the top, Behaving beardly right now he is top 3 of the biggest streamers SoT knows, and only has 350 views as of me typing this out... They are pretty much stuck in a trap riding the game's life and i'm 100% certain most are in for a rude awakening when the game finally dies, because they will have to restart their stream journey from almost scratch (If they decide to continue)
350 views for instance, realistically around 50 of those might stick to a streamer doing variety content and' that's being generous.
In comparison I followed competitive players that had decent views around 60-150 for Sea of thieves, today? 90% of them stopped streaming, the ones that do only 5% of their viewers stick around to watch them play other games.
It's sad, but it's the reality... Definition of washed up.

A big SoT streamer is going to have a lot of trouble transitioning to other games and keeping the same views/fans, we've seen it recently with Pace22 and so forth...
Sadly they might of thought this game was going in another direction where they could of had thousands of views, but the game turned out for what it is, isn't the case and NEVER will be.
Phuzzy isn't dumb and knows this, and I think he will be upset yet still grateful for what has happened, that this game is on life support in terms of player numbers.

    @MisereNZ

However, I do see the clear link between a healthy game and the content creators doing well.
It is very obvous that if the game is healthy with good content, people will watch streamers to pick up tips and tricks and enjoy watching them.

I think you are talking in general so excuse me for what I'm about to state.

The game is NOT doing healthy, the last 2 seasons have seen a decline in players instead of a naturel incline.
SoT streamers are NOT doing too well numbers wise either. A lot of SoT streamers (Not only the big ones) have quit this year alone because they don't see a viable future in this game nor actual growth for their streams. The ones that stayed probably also thought they would get more views as a result of viewers migrating to their streams, which isn't a reality as we see today. Since players are leaving also to other games.
Like I mentioned above, none are hitting that 1,000 live viewers mark, there's ZERO growth. Which is Ironic when RARE caters and relys on content creators so much to promote there game, but it doesn't work that way long term, which is proven by what we are seeing today...

Im my opinion SEASON 14 was catered for content creators moreso then the players, and as a result people are already deeming it as a failed season, disregarding the shaky launch of it of course.

  • You are correct. I was talking in general and not making any calls about if the game is healthy or not. I still enjoy playing playing but some of the bugs can be a bit frustrating. More pointing out the logical disconnect being pushed.

Providing they can transfer over a butch of the assets, I hope that Rare are working on SOT 2.0 in a new engine. Drop the old consoles, rebuild the game from the ground up keeping in mind all the lessons they have learned, rather than have bugs and problems occur due to the spaghetti nature of the code.
