Honestly boggles my mind why they have not turned on friendly fire with cannon balls

  • You have friendly fire from fire bombs. You also have friendly fire from blunder bombs. What are the dev teams scared of turning friendly fire on from cannon balls. The game play would change dramatically. And most of the try hards will cry. But considering how much of the player base who joins them gives the game a nope it would improve new player experiences.

  • Knockback is just as bad from being killed by a cannonball. I think it fine.

The game play would change dramatically.

    In what way?

But considering how much of the player base who joins them gives the game a nope it would improve new player experiences.

    By more deaths?

  • @cannytwocrows I don’t need my own crew killing me for funsies, and I’m sure other crews feel the same way. Nothing needs changed here to save griefing.

  • @cannytwocrows I think it's so that you can support your team mate while they're boarding an enemy ship. If there was a chance you might hit your own player with your cannon balls, people would probably stop firing on your ship while their crew was boarding you, which could make fights take a lot longer.

  • You are only looking at this from a viewpoint of defending against boarders while being attacked by cannons (to get to this point means they've generally put enough naval pressure on you that they're winning the fight, if you send a boarder too early against a good crew it's an easy kill to swing the favour of the fight).

Aside from the fact this would feel bad for people winning the fight who are boarding...

This would become another method of being able to troll your own crew and be abused as such which we just don't need in game.

It takes skill and precision to aim specifically where your crewmate is fighting to support them with cannonballs. This becoming a detriment at the risk of killing them would just be silly

  • This was a thing at one point, either by bug or design. It didn't last long but it went from "hilarious fun" to "Pain in the mast" very quickly.

  • Nah, this would just be annoying. Plus, I can't see any way in which it improves the new player experience.

  • @tesiccl then why can you dance on a another crews boat without being killied

  • @eligibleeel6171 well if your willing to board you should except the dangers. Also probably will lose their stream base but are to English to realize they will develop a new one.

  • @burnbacon personally bacon I don't believe you actually sail with others friend me and show me your skills.

  • @tesiccl so pvp gets the plus cause your scared of getting team killed alright but not alright

  • @thegingrprince why should only the crew your fighting deal with the danger

@hiradc I understand you may be to dumb to understand the conversation but just keep mashing your face on your keyboard and think your wins are deserved.

This is a discussion forum, where people share ideas for the purpose of...discussion. if youre only willing to accept people agreeing with you and resort to personally attacking anyone who doesn't then maybe this isn't the place for you. By just insulting me you kind of prove that you can't argue your viewpoint properly.

Ironic tip for you, if calling someone dumb it would be *too dumb

  • @tesiccl play with a better crew?

  • @cannytwocrows I think I understand the frustration of being boarded and hammered with cannons. The unfortunate reality is, the game already favors non PvP play, especially lately with all the tweaks, but what I am getting at is this. Yes it may suck to sink to this, but if you don’t board a sloop and kill/distract them, they will not sink. Meaning they will rep, run, repeat. It’s already miserable to have to chase people, then they added the ability to run and dive off the server. If they add friendly fire on cannons it would be crazy hard to sink a good sloop crew

  • Hard Pass. This game does not need another offense nerf/defense buff.

3 years ago, I would've said yeah this is a great idea (in fact, I think I did because this isn't the first time this has been suggested). Since then, though, they've done SO MANY defense buffs/offense nerfs that it's already making fights take unnecessarily long.

  • @cannytwocrows

You haven't explained how adding a way to get team-killed during naval combat would, in any way, "improve new player experiences".

Judging by the lack of logic presented here it may surprise you to learn that dying more often in a video game doesn't EVER improve the experience of new players, veteran players, intermediate players, streamers, testers, Twitch viewers or literally anyone who has ever even looked at a game controller or keyboard. Ever.

  • No! Just no, aren’t we shot at enough!? Friendly fire isn’t.

  • 'Cause if they do then all Successful Boarding Attempts will end with Death to Friendly Fire.

  • Yep, I've never understood that decision either. It really makes no sense to me. I can understand this is a game and not real, so perhaps the dev team didn't want things to be too real? But it does give a huge advantage to any boarders.

Swashbuckling fantasy fulfillment, maybe? Fighting it out face to face on the ship is seen by the majority as more exciting? I am unsure of what the majority favors naval or face to face fights. If boarding is favored then I can see Rare's decision to limit interruptions to this part of the game.

  • I'd be fine with it strictly because it would bring more consistency to the world.

  • @cannytwocrows I would try it out at least. The boarding meta is a little too strong and easy. It's also about to become even easier when the grapple gun gets added to the game.

  • @burnbacon personally sir I wanna sail with ya sometime

  • this wont change anything at all. yes u might hit ur mate or even one-ball him from time to time but this wont change anything.
