Stop [mod edit] Reaper Players

  • You guys are unreal, not only do you let everyone on the map know where Reapers are and there rank as it progresses but you offer no benefit to the crew of the reaper for that time? You guys allow us to sell at one island while maintaining the bonus? Why? No harpoon no help we have to dock in the SW corner facing into the island and if you want to stay in position you have to leave your sails down exposing you to anyone that shows up. Why? No other Emmy has to do this and then I have to drag every piece of loot at 30 secs a piece in to sell to him by hand. Thats insane, making for every 10 pieces of loot sold a five minute undertaking. Especially when the average is 30 - 50 pieces of loot? How long are you going to punish players that enjoy this aspect of the game? Is the name of the game titled correctly.... Sea of Thieves????? NO lol Sea of Friends I think would be better as thats what you are promoting while slapping around the players that do the thieving. You let everyone on map know the rank of the reaper but the reaper cant see the rank of emmy ships? Why? Why is that important they know my rank why does that matter to an emmy ship so when I am five they know I can see them? How many more advantages do you want to give other emmys and players? So all a reaper sees is that a ship has an emmy but I could travel across the map to find a lvl 1 order of souls guy reading a book while fishing? How is this even remotely helpful to the reaper player base? Why so the [mod edit] can run? Maybe all Reap raised ships should just travel slower and only be able to fire flares or fireworks maybe we should have to send documentation about a soon to be aggressive act like a declaration of war before engaging. Something of course they can refuse so they cant take damage unless accepted. Or just take pvp out entirely and just do safer seas. change the name of the game to Sea of Friends and lets all move on. You guys are making this time consuming enterprise 2 hours or naval gazing and staring at the horizon to find some clown that is looking for battlegills is insane. You guys are talking about adding new content when you have issues right here this is why games die cause the senior player base is bored with your 5 hour campaigns of sailing across a map for a ship that has raised emmy at an unknown lvl on a map that has no business being that large for the amount of ships on it 2-4. For those of you that say waitttt they can have up to....shut up when was the last time you saw more then three ships on any map you have been on lol just stop don't even try it like I dont play this game.

  • Holy angry wall of text!

Also; You lost me at 'care bears'. That's just a derogatory term used by PvPers upset they can't bully people.
Also the usual doom-saying of "If I'm not happy, then the game is clearly dying!"

  • Venting is expressing frustration. It happens, it's a part of life sometimes.

This is more than frustration, this is a situation where you will never enjoy this game again unless you focus pretty much entirely on maintaining the experience for yourself.

It's impossible to enjoy this game when it gets to you this much.

  • @johnnysinns3903 Your posts have been edited as they go against the Forum Rules and Pirate Code.

Be mindful of what you’re saying and if someone asks a question, see if you can help them out as you’d appreciate being helped out yourself if the roles were reversed.

Using such language will result in a warning, then temporary ban from the Forums and a final warning. If the action is persistent or increasingly aggressive, a permanent ban from the Forums will be issued.

    Thank you.

  • @look-behind-you so now you are muting questions lol thats cool

  • @johnnysinns3903

They haven't muted anything. Use proper language instead of swearing and being rude for no reason at all even if you´re frustrated.

On topic: Reaper is meant mainly to PvP others and having the ability to see where others are is huge, especially if you know what you´re doing when it comes to PvP. I would argue that reapers is the strongest emissary in the game since all the other ones only get a half-decent voyage. The guild emi even gets punished for reaching 5.

  • @itz-majman I buy ink by the barrel lets go lol. First you attempting to tell me to use "proper language", makes me smile also I have no idea where you getting swearing or being rude. However I do see how someone like you would see it that way. Thank you for you input :)

  • @johnnysinns3903

When a moderator has to moderate your title & warn you in the thread, you clearly did something you shouldn't.

However I do see how someone like you would see it that way

Not sure what you mean by that but hopefully you behave in the future and try to promote discussion rather than rage about topics you don't understand fully.

  • @johnnysinns3903 Are you somewhat of an OG player that just came back to the game?

    Anyway,

The game could do a better job explaining all of these features you're complaining about to you, but they don't. You only learn through pain and suffering, but you do get better and everything gets quicker and easier over time.

Server hopping for example is such a crucial part of filling your play session with nonstop fun and excitement.. but the game doesn't teach you how or tell you what's happening. When new players encounter a dead server, they just leave the game, which is a real shame.

I have no idea what your experience level is, and I definitely don't want to insult your intelligence, but here's some tips and info that the game doesn't teach you.. just in case you want them.

    • Reaper V's have map UAV to see all emissaries, knowing their grade is irrelevant because despite Reaper being the best paying faction (+250% at grade 5) Reapers at heart are for PvP.. it's not about gold, it's about blood 🩸 more gold is only a perk, but it's not the point.

    • If you're a Reaper V and don't see anyone on the map, you can dive to any voyage, or sail into a quest portal to hop to a random new server. Keep doing that until you find more players to murder.

    • If you want to get to Reaper grade V in like 10 minutes, just win 2 consecutive hourglass battles with the Reaper's emissary flag up

    • Selling at Reaper's Hideout can be tricky and very, very risky, so you must be quick about it. One method to speed up the process and reduce your time spent being vulnerable is to ram your ship's bowsprit onto the cliff and drop loot off the bow just outside the main entrance.

However, there's a good chance someone is perusing you to get your loot.. they saw you finish that fort.. they've watched you on the map this entire time, and they've been patiently waiting to steal your gold..

If you feel you will be perused, you can pile all of your loot onto a rowboat (preferably a harpoon rowboat) and drop a crew mate off just outside of Reaper's Hideout and he will go sell all the loot while you sail erratically all over the map as a distraction. If you and all of your crew mates are competent in PvP, then I recommend fighting for the loot.. but who knows how many ships will join in the fight against you, and even if you sink one, he'll probably back spawn and come straight back.

  • Please avoid engaging in personal arguments and derailing the topic of the thread. It is fine to debate the content of the post, and the viewpoints therein, but disrespecting any of your fellow pirates personally is against the pirate code, and our forum rules.

  • Definitely think the Hideout is due for a QoL update that includes harpoons for faster selling. Here’s to hoping we get just that in season 13.

  • @olde-grim-jack I am Reapers 500 for a while, Servants 250+ and have the ghost curse along with all of the curses but fundamentally my issue is consistent with how long all aspects of the process take and the duration leads to boredom

  • @savvystraw37257 yeah bro anything would be great

  • @savvystraw37257
I do believe they should do that. With all the things being built, Rare is telling us that Reapers would not want the loot faster.
It was important to sell certain items to the Reapers, and now "reapers" area's (well maps with the reapers symbol showing locations across the map, next to building supplies) are expanding. They can't hire some skeletons to build some type of Reaper Sovereign?

I get it, Reaper is suppose to be "risky" -- but come on, you'd think the Reapers were smart enough to construct some type of selling structure, or even a harpoon to move loot closer..
Yeah, yeah, rowboats, park your ship, etc..
I'm talking about the game itself..
It just doesn't seem logical that the reaper would go off and build other stuff, while neglecting home base all this time.

  • @johnnysinns3903

I see I see, brother. OK yes I see what you're saying, and you raise a good point that I haven't seen anyone bring up.

They raised the faction level cap on Reaper's from 50.. to 75.. to 500 without enhancing any quality of life features for selling

Meanwhile every faction was also raised to 500, but Rare introduced Sovereigns and Guild Emissaries to make it easier.

However, hear me out.. here's a counterpoint

As you know the quickest way to level up Reapers is through hourglass, and really that makes sense due to it being a PvP faction. Athena is the same way.. it's still tough to grind Athena outside of hourglass and I believe it's intentional as a way to keep hourglass alive.. so if you do hourglass a lot like I do, you should appreciate the fact that the game is designed to funnel people into matchmaking.

And I know you know they intentionally make Reaper's selling process slow to give the noobs a chance to get their loot back lol

So obviously there's a trade off going on here, and the question is:

Would you rather have it be more convenient to sell loot at Reapers, and have it be easier to level up Athenas Fortune, or have longer queue times in hourglass 🤔

    Thoughts?

  • @xooghostoox4733 lol yesss I know what you mean but even rowboats I mean fine tie a row boat with harpoon to the top lol even the row boats have harpoons lol make it make sense

  • @olde-grim-jack But emmy hunting and HQ arent even the same style of PvP I think there is a much of difference between Emmy hunting and HQ is there is between World Events and Tall Tales its night and Day I can get guys to Emmy Hunt but you cant use those same guys in HG. And I am not using reapers island at all if ever during HG unless I am right there and dropping flags? Reapers Island is only really for Emmy hunting and the punishment a player goes through to do it is a little beyond the pale.

  • 1). The hideout could definitely use an update to selling. It shouldn't be as fast as the Sovereigns by any means, but if there was a harpoon right below the hands that you can sit on that dropped the loot right in front of the entrance to the tent, that'd be sufficient.

2). I'll go extreme here and pose something that I've LONG thought.
-Get rid of the little emissary ship indicators on the tables at outposts
-Adjust mechanics so that only Emissary ships at Grade 2 or higher can see the exact location of Reapers on the map.
-Adjust mechanics so that Grade 5 Reapers can only see emissaries Grade 2 or higher.

Make it so people have to ya know, leave the dock, if they want to find content. It would make every server FAR more organic than the server hopping exercise it has become for PvPers and PvEers alike.

  • It was great when we could pull up to reapers and just drop the loot on his head.
I used to solo Flameheart as a Reaper back in the day, it was a nightmare selling all that loot, all the while looking around (lots of blind spots).

I will use my ancient coins or dabloons to hire skeletons to build a harpoon.
    Rare, tell me a price

  • @sweetsandman I am not against anything here except and I know there are no glitches in this game but if someone does the supply glitch they would come up right away but if they implemented all of those even then I would be happy and add a harpoon to the island it shouldnt take a gally 45 minutes to off load loot that continuous mundane action over and over gives players reason to not want to do it again so better to log off and play something else. I have had guys that just log cause they dont need the money and couldnt be bothered I mean thats how you know when a guy spends 5 hours sailing and sinking people and then cant be bothered to spend the outrageous sell times.

  • @xooghostoox4733 ill use the skelly bomb if they go and sell my loot

  • Just think, Reapers is basically an old ship turned upside down and pieced together.

  • @xooghostoox4733 that's an interesting paradigm shift

  • @johnnysinns3903 said in Stop [mod edit] Reaper Players:

What hurt reapers long term is terrible risk/reward for a couple of years before they broke up the meta in season 8.

The interest in taking risks dwindled while cheesing went up and up and up. In large part because reapers was the veteran risk/reward faction but the risk got higher and higher and the reward stayed the same.

Reapers is still relevant in farming but it's far from necessary these days. People have a lot of choices now.

The interests in the game have shifted from those a few years ago. Far less people are here or are willing to play this game in a higher risk situation.

Guilds pretty much became what Reapers should have been in design.

and Hg became the quick action for people that want to do something other than just wreck/chase random pvers.

There are so many ways to play and so many different rewards to chase that it'll be tough to make reapers competitive in appeal in current SoT, organically speaking.

Too much to do and people could play years now without even getting around to messing with reapers for rewards. Lots of lucrative ways to farm and hunt that are more enjoyable than reapers (to many people).

  • @wolfmanbush I agree that risk vs reward is always going to be a careful balance. However is it not enough that you can only sell in one place, that because of that one option you are easier to intercept or island tuck or that everyone on the map can see not only that you are reaper but what rank reaper is at any given point in time, you are or the fact that island alone has very limited access for those that wish to sell there you are also making them hand carry every single piece of loot to sell. Really?

Imo they could take the lessons (hopefully) learned from Reapers and could apply it to the Hunter's Call faction.

Hunter's Call has a lot of people wanting some appeal and content added. A way to do that is to bring in Reapers 2.0. A faction with varying levels of risk/reward but not something that just becomes a hopfest for content creators.

Hunting and danger fishing. New treasure. New excitement.

If they spend a bunch of time on reapers it'll be just conveniences to make it cheesier or a bunch of work on something that doesn't have widespread appeal.

  • To be fair your ability to know where all emissaries are at lvl 5 is why you are able to be seen. Like Athena’s can only spot out reapers. And reapers can spot out literally anyone. So it’s a cool trade off if you ask me.

  • @wolfmanbush I think a harpoon isnt a convenience at this point every island has one
