Some kind of Open High Seas?

  • Really didn't know how to title this.

As much as I love to explore the world and it's stories alone in in many MMOs, I always like to see other players about their businesses. Makes the world feel more real and alive. Many times even going out of my way to help them doing stuff or not being somehow massacred, and vice-versa. Also motivating to spending more time in-game. I wish there is some sort doing that in Sea of Thieves.

I don't mean invite players to my crew, lobby or something like that. I mean, really going out there and see other people without the fear of being sank/sunk. Or at least being protected by some game rules.

Granted, I should also not be allowed to hurt them, and probably still getting a lot of penalties in rewards. But I think it would be very enjoyable.

  • @swimsshallows what you’re looking for is just not this type of game unfortunately. When you take away the risk from engaging with players, it makes it incredibly boring unless you can go do events and quests. I guess you’re used to MMO’s but SoT isn’t an MMO, it’s a SWAG (Shared World Adventure Game).

  • Just login with the mentality of not giving a care what happens to your ship, find another ship or two, find a high peak and watch them.

  • I didn't explain myself well. Aside from the penalties that I mentioned, I don't mean not interacting with other players. I could be a little like 'Red Dead Online'. It a game abounding with griefers who see that is always natural attacking other players because of the game-world, but many players like me still love to play just to explore the PVE there. In SoT, the danger of griefers can still exist, but we that choose a 'defensive mode' will be 'much' more protected. And, to incentivate marauder players, giving these a little more reward, if that's what they prefer.

I know, in the way I'm writing it here, that it is probably – if not pratically – impossible to implement (clunky in my own language, much more in english). But if you have some kind of server to play alone (or with just few other players), why not mix with other servers. Even just Open Sea servers? The only problems is how to not take bad advantages of the rules.

    Just wishful thinking, no more.

  • Still possible to login and entirely not care about what happens to your ship, and try to make friends. Raise an alliance flag maybe even, hang distant at first see if they raise, do not make aggressive looking maneuvers or chase, don't shout "I'm friendly, I''m friendly!" on mic cause people who do that are usually not. Show your friendly by acting more natural than that, and with chill ship body language. If they aren't into it and sink you, just be like "whatever" and find someone else. Hop server maybe even. Natural alliances do still happen.

Your suggestions are very good, specially as the game is in High Seas. It's just that I'm too introvert/awkward/socially anxious to do any of those things. I like to see other people around, but still just pass by. Only meddling if they seem to be in any trouble. Also, don't have mics. ^_^
