idk if this has been discussed before, but i think having an option to customize and create your own jolly roger would be awesome, i get why not having customizable sails and stuff, but a small flag would be cool, like those things that some games used to have to create custom pfps in consoles and stuff, that could be used for this, idk, i would love to make a jolly roger of my own style
Custom Jolly Rogers
2 coconuts and a banana on so many personal flags.
On another note...I'd be curious to know how many people have lost naming privileges so far lol

Absolutely not. Players will abuse the heck out of anything if they get the chance. That’s why predetermined sails and guild crests are in the game now (as to not encourage vulgar imagery).
They handle names just fine
anything they add wouldn't be graphic
This idea of "people can't be trusted" doesn't really hold imo, the game has already been doing this without much issue and the game is full of people looking to report things.
It could be done just like Captaincy and wouldn't be that big of a deal. Not any of a bigger deal than ship and guild naming.
People aren't just running wild out there, they get shut down rather quickly.
@tesiccl
This is a good point. Your expectations are that people will make stuff like strawhat jolly rodgers, but what actually happens is that people will take advantage of stigma(i believe it is called) and make flags that they know will resonate with people on both bad and good terms.
The rainbow flag is a good example of this. Due to familiarity to pride, it is only percieved this way, and hostiles actively use it in whatever chaos they spread, making a joke out of the refrence.
@pithyrumble hahahaha true, but honestly if they put a banana and a coconut, they would be asking for problems hahaha
@wolfmanbush exactly, im pretty sure it would be really well managed, having restrictions and limitations, and yeah, making it so that only captained ships are able to do this would be great, if not even legendary pirates only, i really dont think someone would risk their account for that
@wujuwarrior1375 yeah thats a problem, but i really believe with the right limitations and restrictions it can be a good and fun thing
@metal-ravage i wouldnt mind if they had only a skull and just some other options to add to prevent this type of thing, obviously making a fully open editor would be a bad idea

Anyone that does anything hateful isn't gonna last. There is a rainbow flag, there is the community day flag, there is ship naming and guild naming. All have these options have done fine.
If people can't appropriately handle a few basic options for a somewhat custom flag then they will lose access to the feature and possibly face other consequences for those decisions.
Rare and most of the community have both shown that they can largely deal with these sorts of things just fine.
This idea of "people can't be trusted" doesn't really hold imo.
Then not only are you naïve, you’re blind.

Why didn't you address the rest?
@itstred if you give people an inch, they’ll take a mile. The idea of crouching was mentioned in the preview event for future seasons, I know for a fact this utility will allow people to bag their tea on others…

So features should be rejected even though we already have a proven working system?
Do you think they should remove the naming feature?
Do you think Rare doesn't handle the issues to a satisfactory level?
This isn't a case of "what if" we've already experienced it, some will get banned, most will do fine, support does fine with the reports. Most people have access to fun features that add to the experience.
Your opinion is ignoring that the system that already exists and has already been shown to work effectively.
Hateful stuff = gone
violence/abuse stuff = gone
sexually inappropriate stuff in this environment = gonethis isn't "what if", it already exists and is effective.
yeah i get that, but idk, im pretty sure they can put heavy regulation for that type of stuff, having restrictions too yk? like a limit of stuff you can put, or what you can put in general
The problem is people get creative, so even the smallest thing that may look like something else, folk will use it. You ever looked at the map table before and someone’s used the circles to draw on it? Prime example.

My point stands.
Your position is extreme and one that hinders QoL through features.
They've already embraced individuality within the game.
You can consider me naive and question my observational effectiveness but I have what exists in SoT right now to support my position on this.

There are already some emotes that could accomplish the same thing. Should we advocate the removal of those, for logical consistency?
I lean cynical too but the fact is, we have a system to deal with bad actors. Doing it with emotes now probably looks just as bad as doing it with crouching when they add it.
People who care about their accounts will continue to say ggs and move on. The ones who play stupid games will continue to win stupid prizes.
To the OP, I think with something like this, Rare could implement a "custom flag" option for guilds. Something with preset emblems and various designs & patterns; the option to select colors for everything & add a few letters. Various tattered/cut options (no v-cut ofc.), or square ones.
Unlock all options once they're purchased. Make them 8 mil.
To answer you earlier, i mentioned that it was a good point. Tbh i could see this idea being added, but include the awarness and stay active on what arrives with it.
I do believe punishing the people instead of the tools is better. We have seen many times that when words gets banned, they get replaced. "Mid" sorta replaced "noob", which derived from newbeginner(newb, newbie), and "keep yourself safe" would quickly show up after a shortening of it used for something else was removed. We know limiting tools wont work unless its much in tandom with the access to toxicity.

It could work as long as its preset borders and symbols like with the guild banners or a halo icon, but it would be a lot of work for something that may not be used or noticed much unless you had to unlock each part to make them mean something. But odds are implementing it would some how break the ability to fix the ship or pick up loot knowing how this game works!
