Tomes Question

  • I started Solo Slooping when I started this game. The first time I got a "Tome of Resurrection V," I actually assumed to myself "oh cool, I bet you have to collect all 5 before you can "Resurrect" a team mate. Today I collected a "Tome of Power." Sadly these "items" have no real value or purpose in game. I thought to myself, wouldn't it be cool, if my sword was x number more powerful (whatever the Tome number was) if I had the Tome on my ship, perhaps on my desk near the maps.

Why hasn't this been done? I mean, if the in game treasures have no purpose at all, you may have well called them "bob's shoe," and assigned whatever random value you assign.

  • @admiralcorporal That would throw off the balance of the game. The reason all weapon variations are purely cosmetic in the first place is so everyone is on an equal playing field at all times.

Second, a tome that increased your weapon damage would instantly become the meta and force everyone on every session to first seek out these tomes in order to compete with other crews. That sounds like an awfully not fun thing to do every time you log in.

  • @admiralcorporal

It's not called Bob's Shoe, but of you fish without bait you can catch a shoe...

  • @admiralcorporal because SoT isn’t the game you have in your head. It’s an action adventure sandbox with no advantages for any player, just skill and earn-able cosmetics.

Not only that, its one of the most sought after items ever! Old boot forever!

  • Old boot... they should name a fort after that!

  • But I'm asking, is there a point to Tomes? Is there any lore, or will there be any lore behind them?

  • @admiralcorporal

Nope, not even a bit. Just commendations and unlockable rewards in the shops to purchase. And of course those sweet sweet doubloons.

  • @musicmee aaaah the good old days

  • It would be cool I guess if you could read them or something but giving advantages should not and will not happen

  • @thegrimpreacher To be fair a little bit... They were part of building up the Ashen Age story - I know it never really came to fruition but it was on the build-up to Ashen Lords and the like.

Commendations. It had a built in lore and story behind them many moons ago as well.

So not unlike cursed balls? Looking at wraith balls especially.

  • @musicmee

Oh really? I actually didn't know that. I knew the four sets were released sequentially every few updates or so back in 2020 but just figured they were useful as a "gotta catch 'em all" set of comms and slowly unlock bits of the Ashen Dragon set.

Were they supposed to fit into the storyline of the revival of the ashen lords like how we collected all the Dark Relics for the Bilge Rats and those, in turn were used by Jim to turn Old Boot Fort into the Fort of the Damned and release Pendragon?

  • @thegrimpreacher Yup just like that... but it wasn't implemented/explained in the best way. Most people just saw it as an RNG grind and missed the lore/build-up part.

Sad... as it had great potential to add to the lore/story.

  • @admiralcorporal
I'm pretty sure they were linked to flameheart and the ashen lord's. I think for one of the adventure trailers belle is seen reading a tome of resurrection that has do do with flamehearts return

  • @admiralcorporal just cosmetics and such

Wraith balls and curse balls are rare one time use items. Often nice to have, but impractical to farm. A flat damage boost to weapons with no charge or limit would be a much bigger deal.

Are we getting a second Fort of the Dammed?

It seems like every fort named “Old Boot” gets transformed into a haunted Skeleton fort. lol
