Update The Default Athena Voyage

  • The entire point of the new season was to try to bring everything more in line with each other, which has for the most part been great! But the standard and ashen athena voyages seem to have been left out of the mix. The only update done to them has been that you can no longer skip the cargo quests by dumping the loot. Beyond that the voyage gives more normal loot that doesnt count towards athena emissary, and cant be sold to athenas fortune. Loot like mauraders chests, gems, and bounty skulls.

When compared to the veil voyage which can be done in the same time or less, the normal athena voyage is just not worth the time or effort spent.

What i request is that the normal voyages have the voyages cut in half, and add a little more actual athena loot to them rather than a dozen gems and chests. And for the final map, possibly make it a bit more grand, possibly by give it 2 or 3 additional dig spots on top of the athena chest dig, each of which should give some sort of mid to high tier athena loot, and possibly even have it so any skeletons that appear on that last map will drop an athena skull.

Unless changes like this, or something else brings the normal athena voyages in line with anything else you can do for the faction, the voyage is just not worth the time or effort and will continue to be ignored by players. I love the athena faction, so i hope the default voyage can get some love to make it actually enjoyable and worth while!

This might be affecting all cargo runs. I did some in the Roar last night because I still have 40 of each to deliver to finish those commendations, and the voyage paper doesn't disappear when you pick up the cargo. This means you can't stack these voyages anymore, which used to be the benefit to doing them because you could load cargo and do a Lost Shipment or Animals, and since the "Executive" version only gave 4 crates it makes them worse to do.

That is really sad if thats the case, not being able to stack cargo voyages just makes one of the most tedious and grindy voyages and commendations even more difficult than its ever been.

The first one I did was for pickup at Brian's Bazaar, but diving to get there was a big plus. The problem was that it was for 4 crates - 2 of them are the new ones - and the delivery point was Roaring Traders at the other end of the region. You can't plop another voyage down because the cargo run is still active, and then when you sail all the way over there only the 2 original Devil's Roar cargo count towards the commendation.

  • As they are, the old Athena voyages are better for Guilds than Athena, which only highlights the issue. Even if it's the lowest tier of Athena loot, all loot on an Athena voyage should be for Athena. If gems must be part of it, then make those count towards Athena as well.

As I said in another thread...the more I hear from season 11, the less I like it...
Gonna play it tomorrow for the first time...

Over all its not a bad update, but there are some things with questionable choices. Over all its been very enjoyable and makes stuff that was previously very ignorable into stuff you actually want to check out.

There is a lot to like but it's not perfect. I have only done two trading companies so far; Order of Souls was pretty good. I just did a bunch of Skeleton Lord raids back to back, which were only an island away. The Merchant Cargo runs aren't as good as they used to be, and they weren't great to begin with. I still have to finish my animal commendations, so I'll probably try those next.

I like diving to the first activity a lot, and from there I could just sail around and chain voyages together. I only used the dive at the start of each emissary run.

  • @goldsmen @D3ADST1CK well, I will see tomorrow, hope you are right and those threads just make me exaggerate a bit...

The only reason I can think for this change is because this season has made it to where you get a small bit of reputation for completing a voyage, and the way cargo runs used to operate would allow cheeseing the merchant faction.

I'd honestly prefer it if Rare made cargo runs the only voyage that didn't give rep on completion, and revert them back to where the voyage paper picks up once you grab the crates. Not everyone does it, but being able to stack cargo runs was one of the enjoyable parts of the MA.

  • Yes. Absolutely the worst pair of voyages in the game, always have been.

Back when Veils released I thought these should have been updated so that all loot found is Athena loot, but you can only find the old Athena items and none of the new loot a Veil added.

I think they have enough Athena loot items in the game now to just replace everything but the cargo too. New Athena Cargo?

  • @d3adst1ck If they insisted that the cargo task had to remain then absolutely new Athena's cargo!
