Diving to world events

  • I think that it would be good if diving to world events included other player again like it did in insiders on THE HIGH SEAS as this would help bring world events back to the way they were originally meant to be with an entire server competing to claim the treasure and would lean heavily into the idea of the high sea. However I think that a cap to the amount of player allowed to dive to each world event should be limited to 3-4 seeing as as fighting to many ships can be annoying. Still no matter what I think this post will likely be ignored as most of the player base wants safer seas in high seas and it isn't my game. But I am interested to hear what other people think about this.

  • I agree with what they said in the season 11 trailer.

Bernard Suits, a Distinguished Emeritus Professor of Philosophy at the University of Waterloo once wrote, "a game is the voluntary attempt to overcome unnecessary obstacles." If "winning" Sea of Thieves is successfully turning in treasure, then other pirates are the unnecessary obstacle we are volunteering to overcome. The world event is merely a mechanism to generate the loot that is the ante for the game we are all playing. With that in mind, it makes sense to allow crews to complete world events without being invaded because, as they said in the video, fighting to complete the event is not as interesting as fighting over the loot once it's on a ship.

I'm not an insider, but from what I heard in the video I agree. Only one crew should be able to invade a world event because it's no fun fighting over a skeleton fort in my experience...

  • @lordqulex There is also another problem. If someone dives into the world event you are doing, you wouldn't know that they were coming. That means you would be in an very unfair disadvantage.

Lets say you ere doing a skeleton fort. You're on the fort. You quickly check the horizon every 30 seconds or so, nothing there. You turn around to continue to battle the skeletons, and at that moment someone dives to the fort. Before you spotted them and get back to your ship, they have probably already demasted you and did some serious damage to your ship and perhaps even boarded your ship, so they can even keep you of your ship. How is that both fair or fun?

The whole defense you have (and need) while you're doing a world event is watching the horizon so you know when you quickly need to get back to your ship. That would be completely taken away from you.

  • @lordqulex I would agree but that leaves only a small window for pvp as it only takes a few minuets to sail to an outpost and most steals occur during the event not after unless you are tucking manly as a result of running being very effective.

  • @super87ghost this could easily be solved with a rising up sound effect that is audible for people on or around the event

  • @super87ghost Exactly, if everyone can dive that eliminates "Keep your eyes on the horizon". Other players on the server can still join in, but they have to sail over which is much better.

  • @black-bart3377 Then you still first need to get back to your ship, lower your sails and get in a good position to tackle an approaching enemy and perhaps grab pockets/ammo (since you were doing a skeleton fort you might already used items), wich is time that can already be to costly.

You won't suddenly see a ship pop up out of nowhere, coming for the event you are at. Watching the horizon will still be key to proactive defence.

  • I wonder what they consider "Non-contested" Someone attempts, gives up and it still active but nobody is there.
Or someone uses a Rowboat and steps foot on it.

  • @super87ghost Once your sailing away you can fill your pockets for almost free even if you have to turn around to do so. Running to your boat doesn't take very long and getting it going only takes long if you are anchored.
(Time spent reposition will not sink your boat if you know not to nose the other boat)
