  • I had to have watched a different video!

What looks amazing? Everything looks similar, if not easier again.

Fast tracking to an island where all your going to do is tap a chest or fight skeletons will make this game very boring very quickly.

  • The latest podcast said this would be the last 'foundational' set of changes, so my expectations of new stuff was suitably tempered.

My main hope is that there will be more ships with loot on board to steal from with this update (i.e. less empty ships on their way to voyages, and more full ships returning from them).

  • @needsmokes A lot of the time people don't have the time to play long sessions. Rare has tried to fix this for a while with QoL like sovereigns and sea forts to allow for faster play. This diving mechanic is the last piece of the puzzle. The new UI looks good, more learning for new players has been needed for a long time, the company-specific world events are awesome too. Podcast says this is the last "infrastructure" update for a while, so if this isn't your thing, you won't have to wait long.

  • @riptide3683

I've had to actually wait a long time.

I feel it's been years since anything of interest for a seasoned player has been added.

I only hope the rumours are true and all this past year+ of making the game new player friendly are for PS5 players because it won't attract new Xbox users.
30+m players (50% of xbox consoles sold) on xbox have likely already tried SOT and either liked or disliked the game in the past 6 years.

These changes won't attract many new xbox users. So a complete waste of 2 years if that's their plan.

  • Not a fan of the diving fast travel. It's gonna be fun for like 5 minutes and then the Reapers are gonna start abusing it lol.

You can't take your loot with you, and I presume it's simular to HG diving where you can't dive if you're near another ship.

  • @pithyrumble What's the difference between "using" and "abusing" in this case?

  • @riptide3683

No, but if they see your long flag, they could dive to the island you're at. Instant ambush.

Those guys who keep coming back to fight over world events? Now they can teleport back.

And it bites the reapers in the aft too. I'm in the Roar and noticed the reaper headed to the Hideout...teleport, instant ambush.

Remember when "ships don't appear out of nowhere" was a thing?

  • Do we need to use up our saved Quests and Captain Voyages prior to Season 11 launch? I don't see any info on if they disappear or not prior to the new season

  • @cpt-drknight

Gilded, Restitution, and stuff from before seasons started will vanish.

Not sure about captaincy voyages tho.

  • @pithyrumble I think you can't teleport to any island, only ones for a quest or event. I also think when you dive you go into a new server, so this wouldn't happen.

  • @pithyrumble I don't think it works like that. Pretty sure you aren't able to teleport to an already existing world event, let alone to one that is in the same server as you...

  • @riptide3683

I can fish for an island in my quests. And being sent to a new server would cancel any voyages, so you wouldn't be sent to a new server.

Nowhere in the teaser did it say you were being sent to a new server...unless that's insider info.

  • everything is more directed to newbie players and making it simpler.
Gone are the days where you struggled to reach the island and uncover the chests.

Maybe S12 will be update for the Vet players.

  • @burnbacon Just curious, what would you like to see in a vet update? Also, I think the leveling up to 100 thing counts as a win for vets.

What if you can only dive into the designated island after you use the quest table? The trailer said you can sail or dive. I assume you can sail to stay on the server, or dive and it could send you to another server, as long as it is the same destination island. The trailer makes a lot of use of the captain's table, and they could have revamped it to work like hourglass that is a thing that stay active while diving. I don't know, I mean, you can keep supply crates while using tunnels of the damned or diving, why wouldn't they make the same for the new voyage system?

Also, nowhere in the video it says you can dive to any island you want, more like it makes you dive to the island your quest is giving you, so the reapers would have to put a voyage on the table and pray that the quest island is the same they want to ambush then.

  • Doesn't the game converge players towards each other in order to encourage player interaction? Because it sure feels like it. In any case they'd have one chance for a voyage towards your general direction before the cooldown sets in. But what if they put captain voyages with 8 maps on the table? Do they get to choose where to dive to?

As someone who spends 80% of the time in the Roar, any island they could dive to would be a massive advantage.

EDIT: I'm assuming they can't choose to sail and keep canceling voyages in order to obtain one leading closer to a potential target. If you do change seas while diving for voyages, then this is a non issue.

  • Usually late into an MMO's lifespan they reach the point where they cut out the manual travel and just take teleports. I guess this is it. The only difference is here is that when they fire a projectile—it counts. Also, what happens to the funny streamers when they tuck on newbies boats and they dive? I'm guessing they aren't going with them?

  • @riptide3683

    Harder voyages. Longer voyages. Grinds.
Stuff players today dislike and will take longer to achieve. Ship sets that say “I was there”

Stuff that only players who have played long enough, it’s only them who can go for the glory.

(Like how PL use to be) unlock by achievement

    Yup.

Go to island, kill skeleton, get renamed/redrawn skull, sell to Sovs or OoS. Same missions, different less immersive UI.

No, diving will be almost useless. You use it for the first mission, after that you can't dive without losing loot. You can sail to an outpost and sell after each mission, but why do that.

New ships, new islands or world events, new, non-instanced Tall Tales. Adventure chapters.

Doing the same mission for renamed loot with new art is not content.

Hoping for S13 to have something.

  • @foambreaker I think you will find it to be more useful than you expect. Want to do a vault in the Roar? There. Want to do a Ashen winds but won't bother server hopping? There. It will be way easier to get to the stuff you want to get to without having to play back-and-forth sailing simulator.

  • I cant say im the most excited for this upcoming update, i really wish special voyages could have been kept if you already had them, just in a new area. But the thing that gets me is just how 4 seasons earlier they added captain voyages as "the way to store more voyages and get a more custom voyage experience" as like 1/3 of that seasons features, and are basically making it pointless.

I am excited for new rings at least! Not a lot else beyond the rings and extra levels would i say is very new in this update though, just reworking how we do the exact same things we always have been doing to make it a little more convenient. But diving to tall tale locations may make it convenient enough that i may finally do more of them.

It just feels a lot like the last few seasons, framework changes that may help in the future, but doesnt help a lot with the quality of immediate play.

  • @riptide3683 You can't generate a world event, you can only dive to one that spawned naturally.

  • Curious about commendation and achievements that might not be available after this up date. Purchase X number of voyages for each Emissary.

    • Voyages are Free
    • You dont have to turn in found loot from voyages to earn Rep

So..what do we spend gold on again? I would always go about spending 2000 gold on random voyages Im not gonna do just to burn gold. Now I wont be able to. :(

  • @extremekaat i would think that those might still exist, but it now counts as getting such a voyage from the guest table?

  • @burnbacon said in Season 11 Features Revealed!:

You get a bit of rep for completing the voyage, not all of it.

You can always buy supplies you don't need, e.g. as a non-fisherman buy bait or else some planks, raise merchant and put some commodities on the docks 😁.

  • Im glad they increased the cap to 100 (even though it just means more grind of the same, and the cosmetics) but I pretty much disagree with anything else this season adds.
Ships wont be in the horizon as much, they will just appear infront of you.

I know its a bit of a rant but Rare are systemetically killing the vision of the game to earn a quick buck IMO.

Screen more crowded with UI, PvE servers. now artificial ambushes.
No wonder I dont play as much

  • @pithyrumble a dit dans Season 11 Features Revealed! :

Pretty sure they'll not allow a ship to teleport close to another. If the diving mechanic works like in HG, you can't dive with a ship nearby. That's the reason why you don't see any ennemy ship diving in SOT because it's impossible. When a ship can dive, it means no other ship can see it. So why should it appear close to another?

  • @foambreaker a dit dans Season 11 Features Revealed! :

    THANK YOU

I think many people don't understand the dive system. Clearly, as soon as a boat is close (and when I say close, I mean very far) like for the HG, you won't be able to dive, so no chance of escaping. It's just starting your mission at the exact location without making the traveling at the beginning. because Rare finaly understood that the first run is pointless. because you don't lose anything if you sink, no risk. The only thing you want is to arrive at your destination as quickly as possible and start your mission/world event. And there you go. We have this solution

  • Somewhat skeptic about fast travel, like others. But I do like the limitations and I think I understand the design.

Still, the concept of removing sailing, in any shape, length or form, from a sailing game just feels off.

Is it that big of a deal to have to sail for a couple of minutes to that World Event or Tall Tale you want to do? That's the whole point of being in a pirate adventure: you have to sail to places and unexpected stuff can happen along the way, including the very beginning. Also, if I'm understanding this correctly, the minute you can't dive to a certain place, you'll already know there's someone there, removing an element of surprise.

And yet, if there's one thing I've learned through the years playing this game is that Rare does not throw these updates carelessly and they nearly always end up working fairly well, so I'll wait and see.

  • @foambreaker From what I can tell from the video, it looks like any event, not just ones on your server. I doubt you stay on the same server when you dive, as it would just make more sense and conserve resources by borrowing what HG does.
