HG Matchmaking post-SS

  • Anyone else noticing HG matchmaking has been pretty much nonfunctional (at least on NAW/NAE) since the Safer Seas patch landed?

    We have spent nearly 10 hours in queue over the last day with not one successful matchmaking queue. Solo sloop, duo sloop, brig, and Gally; all no matches. We even had another crew from Discord dive at the same time as us, same ship size, same servers; nothing.

    Did HG get bugged with the patch perhaps? I cannot imagine Safer Seas disrupting the HG population to this extent. It's true queue times have been pretty abysmal anyway lately, but this seems broken.

    Update; 10 hours spent in different queues yesterday = 0 matches all day.

    4 hours today; 2 matches.

    Improvement! /s

    Might have something to do with it too 😂

    Of course all the HG folks may be warring it out on the High Seas ( pfft ha it's been just as quiet there)

  • I saw someone get a fight right after cancelling the dive yesterday, maybe something is a little buggy

    They can only make the matches with the interest they have. If pvpers invested as much time into playing the game as the content is designed as they do talking negatively about the game on social media then Rare could offer higher quality experiences and matchmaking.

    Everyone knows SoT isn't a perfect experience, everyone knows that SoT is frustrating sometimes, people work around it to enjoy what they enjoy.

    A lot of effort went into serving an option to a small group of players and many of the players that it was designed for have done nothing but complain and discourage since its release.

    It's never good enough. It's never right.

    Nothing is perfect in this game, many of us just work around that because we truly enjoy the experience rather than spend all day going on about how much we think we gave to the game while constantly tearing it down.

    If other games are better, cool, play 'em and build up encouraging communities around them, the bitterness about SoT is just silly.

    Probably waiting for the Yellow (and Blue in the first image) crew to get more people in, which could take some time if previous yellow crew players had quit the game as it held their place for 10 minutes or so.

    I played arena a bunch early on. It was fun. I only went to adventure because I enjoy adventure and it was more rewarding for me.

    Taking the game too serious is the specific issue, not people as individuals.

    Taking it too serious is what leads to all the drama and excessive negativity and eventually to the point where people tear something down more than they invest in it.

    Performance is imperfect, designs aren't often perfect, maintenance isn't perfect, experiences aren't perfect.

    Everyone goes through frustrations in this game, not just experienced and skill pvpers, everyone. They work around it because that is what life is, working around what doesn't work to enjoy some of what does work.

  • @lem0n-curry that's the issue, these should have been assembled into a crew and boom start.

    When a family of four can figure this out AND hit reg, than it's time to stop blaming us for getting sick of it.

    It's the players that may have left by Alt-f4; Merging those crews would have left 3 crews, I thought you needed 4 at least to start a session. Also might be a problem if crewmembers had a disconnect and wanted to rejoin. A smaller window to rejoin would have solved it a bit I guess.

  • @lem0n-curry It was always broken, they threw players into a lobby and assigned them to an empty crew and waited... Unlike BS which assembvles you into a crew and then drops you in a lobby... As I stated it should have been from the beginning.. and it took 3 to start.

    I was there for insider and the beginning it was never correct.

  • @jdge439 Rare is passionate about their game and obviously don't intentionally create issues. They're a smaller studio compared to other AAA game studios like Respawn or 343. If you wanna play another game, fine. But that doesn't mean you should come here and complain and complain and try to get people to quit SoT.

    Season 8 was entirely focused on pvp content.

    Season 9 was full of FoF pvp

    Season 10 has pvp content.

    They have put a significant amount of time and resources into trying to improve hit reg, trying to improve fair play, keeping pvp going.

    They have a bunch of partners that are pvp focused and have a direct line of communication with their feedback, specifically about pvp.

    They've gone above and beyond to cater to a group where many will never truly appreciate the effort and resources put into it.

    When it was announced that arena was shutting down a bunch of people went in there to get their comms done in one way or another. It worked, people had a good time.

    It's not any different than what happened with a lot of things. They completely changed Captaincy around after 10 months because of the data and decisions made about the data. Those of us that wanted the original design were not strong enough in activity or data to compete with a more casual view of Captaincy. That's how it goes in live service. Those of us in the minority of play will eventually take L's to our styles of play. It's how it goes for all of us sometimes, outside of the majority of something.

    It'll keep happening until the game ends. It's a part of the deal. Change always happens eventually.

    Rowies?
    Glowy cosmetics?
    Adventures?
    Tall Tales?

    Where's the content?
    SoT is unique and the "family of 4 figured out hit reg" doesn't matter if it only has 1 play mode.

  • Blazing Sails looks like the cheapest chinese knockoff of that fancy designer thing you want.

    Blatant, ugly, and a hard pass for me.

  • Still finding fights in HG post SS but the matchmaking is definitely broken. We are having success by diving, wait 10 min, surface and spent 10-15 min in adventure mode (look for chains, sink nearby ships, etc), then dive again. Only average about 1 fight per hour, but we are still finding them. We have the best luck with sloops. Brigs and Gally fights are hard to come by.

  • @khenny-g I okay 4 rounds against 4-5 ships per hour.

    @PithyRumble it's not made for that, it's specifically a pvp game. The kinda thing those of us that played arena from the beginning enjoyed. Something I can get a quick 20 minute game in before work.

    Yes, hit reg matters even more when you spend 10 minutes diving and waiting, 15 minutes gathering more supplies and another 10 minutes diving just to get a game where the deciding factor can be your aim......

  • @soulstinger2k20 hit me up if you need wanna try and want a crew. Most of the sot players in my discord jumped ship.. kinda literally

    Skull and bones has been pushed back so many times, I will believe that when I am actually logged in.

  • @foambreaker Skull and bones looks like it plays like World of Warships just, Pirates. I wouldnt consider it a replacement at all for SoT or BS PVP- teamwork.

  • @jdge439 Oh I play WoWS often. I like the game except the maps have too many islands and so the PvP meta is hiding behind islands.

    I call it the "Culture of Cowardice".

I just, I fell in love with the Teamwork play in SoT especially since I had a discord with 300+ so, had plenty of crew mates but, We all got so frustrated with the arena wait times and then hourglass fell flat aswell. We've been having a blast though recently, we all got BS on the free weekend from Epic so, it kinda easily stole us to be fair.

  • thanks to safer seas, hourglass is dying. soon it’ll end up like arena, and then pirates who earned their curses or were almost there are going to feel like arena vets and refugees

  • I'm not quite sure those that would have been queuing for Hourglass are the same audience who are now in Safer Seas?

    It just doesn't add up...

  • This is precisely why the original post was asking if anyone else was having such difficulty finding mstches in the days that followed SS's implementation.

    It seems to have picked back up a bit, but it didnt make sense for SS to have much or any affect on HG; hence why I thought perhaps Rare had broken something
